  1. why? because of the cyno? not neccessary a "bad" thing, the bubbles on the wall could well be just oxygen. so hard to comment on the system itself. but we do need a better picture
  2. "lol" might be the wrong comment here! dude get your skimmer running first before you start experimenting with chemicals. vodka will to "bugger all" if the nutrients are not exported so whats the point? like bubbles said give it time, start your skimmer to get nutrient export going and then see how it goes.
  3. "great minds think a like" hey wasp
  4. well the photo is crap (sorry) to start with. but it looks like you have calcerous algae growing on the frag which is not good. on the other hand icould be that your frag is going nice purple (unlikely) which would be great. since you changed bulbs i would say move the piece down to a lower lid spot and see how it reacts. all the best with it.
  5. true depending on depth do you have experience in doing so? 750 high on flouro's is unrealistic to say the least in keeping corals. even 150 watt M/H would be pushing it
  6. a thing to add is that your alk will take a hammering in the process.
  7. you can not increase your calcium with kalkwasser alone, even when using vinegat in the solution. unless you evaporation is about half your tank volumen. the topup water will only be able to hold so much calcium and that is not enough by a far shot to keep up with demands. it does keep your ph up during the night hours as one benefit if nothing else. thats why some of us use calcium reactors and others 2 part solution's.
  8. most corals liked the change, i burnt 3 different types of acro's (well almost on purpase. just to see if my light output really increased alot. i raised them by about 20 cm from normal hight. to be honest i could not see much of a difference in lumination. most corals showed a drastic improvement within 2 weeks, ie colour and growth. the ones i burnt were a stylopora, green purple acro and alittle stag. my anemone which i had for quite a while and happly sitting in the same spot moved as well (straight into the powerhead and got minced which my hydnophora really liked)
  9. yep, mine will go up 20 liters a day without the fan (1300 liters total)
  10. thats exactly what i told him when i was over there. would have elliminated his noise problem, faster flow rate and he would have still had an spare (safty!) second overflow box in case something went wrong with the syphon.
  11. i have found the same. it seems to grow alot faster when you cut them. new tips even outgrow older ones. go figure :-?
  12. it may have just moved to a safer place. wait and see if a head pops up somewhere in the tank in the next few weeks.
  13. sorry buts not true! i have asked the question before "what is white spot?" if you get / have WS you do something wrong - end of story!! everything else people say is just an excuse.
  14. looks like a feather duster that lost its old crown due to spawning and moved out from its tube (has happend to me before). just watch it, place it in a secure spot (hole) with medium flow and see what will happen. it should form a new tube quickly, the "feather" will take a bit longer to grow
  15. bit of a rude question isn't it? let them do which ever they like!!
  16. looks more like a small sea cucmber. they come in all shades of colours. it looks in the pic that it has filter feeding tentecals at one end and no visible gills. i had the same type a while ago in black, it was attached to a coral rock i purchased from a LFS.
  17. nudibranch, you can see the gill structure on the top, something flatworm do not have. great looking one too. hey keep it separated from your tank if you want to hold on to it but it will either starve very quickly or eat some of the stuff you want to keep. which may not be to bad but its the risk factor that this little sucker gets chewed up by a powerhead and releases all its lovely poison into the tank water with dire consequences.
  18. nudi or flatworm? flatworm keep it as very few are coral eaters but if it is a nudi you better chuck it down the loo. if it is a nudi it can cause massive problems with your livestock if it goes into a powerhead (fish wipeout)
  19. must be as it has your name and location posted as well. did you get any money from them for publishing your photo and name? BTW great picture. i can save you a copy if you like.
  20. have been using a Sea & Sea for the last 10 years. very user friendly as it lets you change lenses under water but have been eyeing one of the newer digital under water housings. they seem to have so much more potential (but haven't tried them yet )
  21. if you can help it don't buy any fish for a few month, the white spot should have died out by then. otherwise the new comers will get infected as well and go down the same road (white spot and most likely death) or tread the tank (if no inverts). also get a real bully that will show mrs maroon where to go (but i can't really think of any fish to do that :-? not even a dottyback will do)
  22. as the unit sits in your tank all the hatching water will end up in your tank as well as the BBS. so not that keen on it. would bve ok on a fry raiser tank that gets a twice daily WS.
  23. looking at your avatar the last one most be lonely! or in an argument with itself over some trivial stuff
