  1. are they astrea's or turbo's? roundish or cone shaped?
  2. that would work as well.
  3. you would have to skim it as well to remove the algae (and in this way the silicates) otherwise the silicates used by the algae will stay in the system and will be reused over and over again.
  4. i just can't see how i can put them to use with my current setup! :-?
  5. well i have seen a "luminarc" reflecting just a small light bulb at bubbles house and i was impressed. imitation or not. iam seriously thinking about it. it was dark in the room with just that small bulb on but the moment you put the reflector under it the whole room lit up which was quite awesome.
  6. may i suggest you throw the cloth dryer away. bulid a place where the laundry can dry and it will save you heaps.
  7. go the red sea i say. i use 2 berlin classic, no noise, no breakdown, no hassles, and they do skim pretty good. and they are cheap at present because so many wanna be deltec's upgrade (it seems to be cool to belong to "the" club  ) but then again deltec is a pretty good skimmer too! has to be its german.
  8. get a rheem hot water (gas) saves you lots of money, but its just so much nicer using the shower and bath. never ever again a hot water cylinder1 our use is 1/4 max on hot water and we do not have a dryer.
  9. what test kit are you using? i tried a few and most show different readings.
  10. i guess that you have answered all your question all by yourself!
  11. glad dave listened to somebody's advise regarding aquascaping his new show tank!
  12. looks like my tank at 22 to 23 degree isn't that cold after all.
  13. sorry to rub it in but you were warned.
  14. be nice to each other whats the water winter temp. in the northern island groups of tonga? the red sea is another very good example of cold water during winters (brrrrr) found any ship wrecks lately cold water holds more oxygen, calcification takes place until you reach around 17 degree. winters do exist even in the tropics with water temp dropping quite a bit. its never 26.4 degree all year around (except a few places but there the temp seem more like 29 at all times which doesn't seem to great either) good question but did you look at his posted picture? the colour is in credible ranging from brown to pastel light blue depending on the light source. most be some additives that are able to do that.
  15. cover glass is a very safe option regardless of type. your bulb might not explode into a thousand pieces but could crack and keep working killing everything in the process with unshielded UV radiation.
  16. is that staghorn really that blue on one side and brown on the other? or is it just the picture? if that is the real colour then i would say something wrong with the light. turn it off and see if the corals ger better. if it is the light then that will kill them for sure! that what i would say too only a non diver would say that
  17. he always seems to stop at my place and loads his car up before going to yours!!
  18. i have been thinking that for a while.
  19. what are nitrates? :-?
  20. chiton, can get them locally
  21. what you can't see is the digger thats ripping all the corals out to make a new, larger runway for the jumbo's to bring in more tourists!
