did i ship those "dry" by any chance? survival seems a lot better in regards to shipping xenia if no water at all is in the bag due to the fact that they release so much crap they poison themself in the bag. done that quite often in the past (sometimes send one wet and one dry) and had a much better feed back when shipped dry.
you sumed it up reef! could not have said it better!
thats the very reason why; after Rolf Jansen sold the shop to another company,(who is in the buisness of making money; never mind if loyal aquarist bought stuff before hand) they "removed unprofitable lines"! ie marines and other stuff.
this had nothing to do with the fact that there was more competition around! it only happened because there was just not enough fast easy profit in it for the company (goldfish are much better). so that really shows that it makes no real difference bitching at each others in regards to prices etc. all that ever counts is the bottom line profit.
so to say it loud and clear - jansen did not stop marine because of all the other importers / fraggers / hobbiests that managed to keep there live stock alive but only because the profit margins weren't high enough.
well good by jansens you will be missed and welcome to all the other shops that will fill the place because they tend to work on smaller margins.
well went for a snorkel to get some scallops this afternoon. water was nice and warm at 16 deg.. bad vis so not many scallops but seen heaps of starfish (by the thousands) coming back in at low tide but none like that. i guess it hides all day and comes out at night like most brittle stars do.
i went on tuesday to HFF, had along chat to Dave and even mentioned to him how cheap some of the corals were. like some of the nice red LPS's he had. also most fish seemed priced well, nothing over the top.
leave the cotton on the rock until it rots away. BTW that leather is one of my favourites as it has awsome polpys on it. how are the other two pieces going?
i was the test case a while ago. i had a rather large amount in the tank and purchased a packet od FW exit from salifert. i didn't like all the warnings on the box so decided against using it. from memory i think i send the box FOC to james in hamilton. my flat worm populatio crashed on its own a few weeks later with no side effects. and FW do not kill corals they may shade them a bit but thats about all. i did have a scooter blenny that in the end cleaned up the last survivors but was unable to control them once peaked.
flat worms are not that bad anyway. they don't kill anything, the population will peak at some stage and then crash. i bet most tanks have them in small amounts anyway without ever having an outbreak. so nothing really to stress about. unlike WS or MV.
just by the looks at the overflow i would guess it was designed as a full syphon system already. it has the flow valve below the tank. and with such a small sump you will never able to flood your living room as the tank should be able to take all the water without a problem.
maybe less interfered with? and it shows real pics with less foto shop? ie the real thing which is a good thing. don't think we need the yanks to muddle up our coral pictures! they are good enough the way they are! great pics reef. liked the fish ones too!
nice job cleaning it!
where does the water go from that super tight skimmer area? back to the tank? is there a larger sump area? and how did you get your arm down that tiny overflow?
well said! even some "more" experienced reefers done that! thats one of the reasons i am against automatic topup systems. it makes you lazy and mistakes will happen. but hey if you are able to get new stock in to replace the old that should/must be ok? isn't it?? it all comes down to time and care. if you only have ten minutes a day don't bother with a reef tank, regardless what people say it will take a lot longer then that to care for it!
