  1. mine done the same thing to a new gigas clam i added with the clam loosing most of its mantle. then suddenly he stopped nipping on it and has not bothered it since. i put it down to being a new addition to the tank and the fish was just checking it out.
  2. i can pretend to be under twenty. and i like pus.. i mean kittens too
  3. and LPS, SPS, leathers and everything else in your tank.
  4. i got a dosing pump from aquamedic 1000 which does agreat job and is cheap. thanks to the dude who sold it to me.
  5. i used to run 2 tanks on the same sump (3 footer and 4 footer) i did have two return pumps and it never gave me any problems. just make sure your sump can take all the water from the tanks in case of a power failure.
  6. you could run a whole bunch of actinics and your corals would still grow, just doesn't look that great to us. seen great corals at 25 plus meters and the water is grey blue, and funny enough if you take a picture of something it looks total different then in real life because of all those colours suddenly showing.
  7. hope you quarantined it or you could end up with another outbreak of WS. seeing you just added a new fish!
  8. http://www.reefs.org/library/talklog/d_ ... 42698.html http://www.reefs.org/library/talklog/s_ ... 60202.html http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/7/aafeature interesting reading in regards to lifspan of bulbs and spectrum etc. and also in the first link about alk. and colour changes.
  9. been there done that. have downgraded! lost a bit of colour but growth has been awesome ever since. seen plenty where people increase the lights to get the most brilliant colours only to see growth stunned and/or the coral crashing (pink seriatepora hystix comes to mind). also the extra cost involved (incl. chiller some have to use them even in the winter ) having big bulbs is something many don't realise.

    Oyster

hi wasp, i have tried a few times, mainly with small oysters that come attached to the big ones we use at work. it didn't feel right just to break them of and chuck in the rubbish bin. but none lived for more then a couple days (could well be that because they were chilled when i got them and almost dead from the temp) or just not enough food in the water either. i have not tried one from the beach yet. on the other hand green lip mussels seem to do ok as i have a few small ones in the tank (not put in on purpose)
  11. really? bugger i must be doing something wrong with my 150's
  12. don't you work at that place with that coral (graveyard) showtank that has that really nasty clown in it? you know the one that bites you (forgot to mention her boyfriend which also bites you) and is really fun to watch as a customer. tank looking very good dude
  13. hello do i read this correctly? its bloody winter and your chiller is running?? you might have a look in redoing your plumming and run it through every room in the house for heating this should also lower your heating bill. or rip a whole into the ceiling for the warm air to escape so your HRV can pump it back into the house 8) what are you going to do in the summer when it does get warm? better get a part time job to pay that power bill in feb.
  14. vanuatu if money is no object, northern island group of tonga (outer islands) is great. fiji is ok but avoid coral coast, raro is poor unless you just started same goes for aitutaki.
  15. make sure you cultivate some in a spare tank just in case your CB eats nothing else after he finished all the aiptasia in the tank
  16. what shop was it? couldn't do much turnover, makes you wonder why they still sell marines! would cost them more in overheads then the fish is worth.
  17. what a great idea, shame about the ugly powerheads and the rock pile
  18. i ave done the same in a reef tank with no ill effect
  19. hey at least he admits it that it was only 2 weeks.
  20. don't be to negative you never know. how will you supply its silicate needs? diatom's are great but hard to culture on an ongoing basis for most people.
  21. looks great lets see how it does. post us a pic in a few months to see if survival is any different in a normal run BB tank without automatic continous feeding. BTW do you want to keep it upright? as almost all i have seen in the wild grow down or at least sideways in some wayor the other depending on current
