  1. UM, good question. does anybody else want to have a go with killis way down there?. Or keep them as back up untill you are breeding from your fry, just in case you never know.
  2. Hi HandS, personaly I think a 30sq tank is to small(2ft is better), not for spawning but zebera danios can be very prolific and the tank may become over crowed before the fry are big enough to move safely. A spawning mop will work fine with shallow water and a spawning trap to help stop the adults from eating there eggs. good luck

  6. Hi Kardinaaltje, A big WELCOME Don't forget we have a chatroom, so when Douwe comes down here next year, you can keep in touch with him here
  7. you know I've kinda lost track of exactly how old they are. but when checking this post, I droped those fry off to you around the 29th of june so that would make them 4 months old give or take a week. Oh by the way congrat's on the fry
  8. killis are fine in com tanks although it must be a medium species. if a big 1 it may eat your neons and if it's a smaller 1 may get eaten by your angels when they grow
  9. It could be fish Tb, it can cause bisters like that on older goldfish. Normaly it appears on the head and looks just like that.
  10. the answer depends on what species you desire to bring into condition. I will asume you ar refering to the Blue Gularis. The answer is everything as long as it is good quility and lots of it. I feed blood worms, water fleas, mozzy rigglers and a high quality flake, you could also feed trimed beef heart. You should also give them all they will eat this species is a big eater , to save money top up there feedings of live or frozen insects with flake and beef heart. you may be shocked as to how much food they can chow down, especially as your fish are still growing.
  11. High Bluetom, a 1ft tank is fine for breeding most killies. as for web sites  have you ever googled "killifish" theres so many out there, killicom, bka, aka, dka just to begin with. Then there's the private websites. If you really are interested in killis pm Alan 104
  12. Hi Devon, When I bought the original pair the female was in fare condition but not as full as I would have had her. I had a lot of difficiulty in getting her full of eggs and only managed to do it twice, she has sinse pased on. The female I'm now using is always full of eggs even if I'm not breeding them. This species will only live for 2 to 2.5 years max. What I am trying to say is that it is advisable to keep your female in very good condition all the time. That way when the male is of age, conditioning the female to 1.5cm to 2cm across the belly should only take a week of extra quality feeding. Do try and breed them as I have said in a previse thread it is likely you will not have much luck(as I did not when I first got them). When I say "not much luck" I'm simply saying you wont get 500 firtile eggs or more . But i'm sure you would be happy if you got some fry even if not many. Peat needs to be incubated for 5 to 8 weeks for the eggs to develope. I hope Fishbait's and my answers have helped you.
  13. My favourate Apisto is the orange flash cockatoo, I have A. agassizi and A. nijsseni ( panda Apisto ) too. Apistogramma are really pretty cichlids and so easy to breed, raising the fry is another matter. yes the zebra pleco is endangered.
  14. Hey CONGRAT'S Werner , It can be quit suprising how fast they can hatch if all is right . As the bag of peat states I sent you N. korthausae YELLOW , the bag from Erling should be marked which type it is as well. Now all you have to do is grow them. The goal is fully coloured and 2 to 2.5cm in 5 to 6 weeks. They will be ready to spawn at that stage too. good luck
  15. HI MRSKz, it is my understanding that betta eggs have oil in/on them so will foat even with out a bubble nest .( could be wrong though) as the male is not hurting the female I would leave them alone you may be suprised tomorrow morning and find a new nest full of eggs
  16. , I just rang him too and forgot about his big spawning
  17. oh yes they are 1 of the best It's a shame you live so far south I have a friend that breeds them in Auckland
  18. This is a little interesting. the same thing can happen to a couple of my killifish species I breed, the reason is temp. low 20's only males, high 20's only females. What temp are you breeding your rams at ? I've heard that 30C is the best temp to breed them. Although I have breed Rams at 26C.( I no longer keep Rams ) Sorry Dubb, I don't think there the MOST beautiful fish, but they are little beauties
  19. You need to read this , it anwers your questions http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/specie ... t8568.html
  20. Krib down load this, you will see http://www.fnzas.org.nz/uploads/media/F ... Layout.doc
  21. the thing is YOU have to sign the form SO IF SOME ONE ELSE PRINTS IT, it has to be sent to you for signing, more cost. a lot of people do a little, rather then a few do a lot ps I already have around 12 forms complete, in the big picture it's nathing, but every little bit helps
  22. Krib are you going to attach them to a form and send them in?
  23. there really hard to get a pic of too there always moving, so it's not like someone could quickly pop round and snap a photo. will see what others can do. IF some one reads this and is able to help shout , loader I didn't hear
  24. Bit of a problem my end . I droped my camera on it's lense and it is out of order for a while have forms and pic's of all the fish you have listed under my name Krib except the Julidochromis marlieri. Can anyone else do this species instead of me please?
  25. sell the gear. Take the tank to my glazier and get him to cut it up into a heep of killi breeding tanks. "KILLIS RULE" I think I may have a problem
