  1. I beleave it's all about temp and conditioning, like any fish. Sorry can't help you with the sheep
  2. I know they are stubborn spawner's. A guy here in wellington ( don't know if he has breed them or not but know he had them ). For stubbrn corys his set up was.... A 90x30x30cm tank with sand base for them to spawn in.( sea sand as river sand can be course and damage the cory's) The sand was thin at 1 end and very very thick at the other to the point that there was maybe 100 - 150mm of water above it. At the shallow end there was a tone of spawning moss and a BIG ball air stone which when attempting the spawning he would turn on till the water above it boiled some what with the bubbles. Hope there is some ideas in there to add to what you know.
  3. A person in the kapiti club had a convict and firemouth breed, the off spring were infertile and were the shape of firemouths but the colour of convicts.
  4. shadowfax it sounds like the starter culture suffocated. A month a go I had 1 of my very active cultures do just what you said. Every thing was good with this culture other then the lid was closed instead of being ajar.
  5. It is unlikely you will be able to get any with out knowing the dose rate. Many Vet's have know idea how to treat fish, and by law can not proscribe medication with out a treatment plan.
  6. I think you missed something in that link. A lot of plants sold in pet shops are grown using hydroponics ( out of water ). So when they are placed in an aquarium they produce different leaf structure, this is quit normal.
  7. It depend on the plant but seconds. A 5% bleach dip can also be used.
  8. I have know idea other then when a female is in spawning condition I would think she would be fat as
  9. I don't know why you would use silicone anyway as it does not stick to pett bottles. It would be better to go to your local hydroponics shop and get gromits like this... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/s ... 2Small.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/s ... 1Small.jpg There some what dirty  as there used to hatch B/S.
  10. Cool loach, you don't see them that big much any more. Shame you don't have a pair to try and breed them as they take so long to get BIG.
  11. carla I had to read it again but yup thats what it says.
  12. lol antwan I wish it always worked like that. -cough splutter drops dead chlorine is nasty stuff. I tried Sodium Thiosulphate but it was a major pain in the butt. I have some old cysts, Must give it a try the vinegar that is
  13. meesheelly wrote DOH     PMSL OH THATS NOT NICE >>but funny. Good thing it's not a planted tank then   You will have to clean it out and start again sorry sorry sorry We all live and learn
  14.   I hope you did boil it   the things we some times take for granted that newbies don't realize
  15. I didn't know vinegar would do that, but if there hatching it must work.
  16. Did you boil the peat first to make it sink or do you have peat floating all around the surface.
  17. What do you use to neutralize the chlorine before hatching??
  18. Back to the topic I have breed these wee fishees in the past with mixed results = not large spawnings. Fishbait if I recall correctly bred them in brackish conditions and was very successful getting well over 100 fry. Just thought Id let you know
  19. The only decap b/s eggs that will hatch come in a concentrated brine solution, to keep them dehydrated and are expensive. Any decap that come at that price and free-flow ( that is not in a brine solution ) have been decap'ed at a higher temperature then the shrimp can survive = they are non-hatching. As for weather they are better or not I suppose depends on what your feeding. I use both hatched and decap.
  20. Looking great Hands. :bounce: :bounce:
  21. Ok this is what is called RED algae even though it looks black or dark green it is red under that. I grows well in the presents of phosphates, which may get into your tank from either imported frozen blood worms or more likely your tape water. There is little you can do other then removing the phosphate prier to use. But here is a few things others have done..... Get a black line flying fox they seem to eat it, nothing much else will. Install a CO2 unit on your tank - your plants will grow so well you will be able to trim the older leaves that get the algae off and the tank will still look fab. Sorry I can't be more helpful it's a tough little thing.
  22. I find this some what puzzling. I only ever used peat in marg containers and they always sank, you must be sure to remove the air from under the rim of the lid maybe this is the problem.
  23. Does this algae grow in tufts or long string like growths?
