  1. try spirulina flakes or tabs, i found them to be quite good>
  2. I have used flourish on my old 6 foot tank wich was around 700ltrs and it seemed to work fine. A bottle seemed to last a long time as well:D
  3. Hey susy, i found that using a co2(hagan) is great for plants, but you need to monitor ph. If you want to change all of your gravel at once you can but dont clean your filters, or boil any of your rocks or drift wood as they house lots of benificial bacteria as well, and you prob wont eliminate algae from your new setup, i recon having a bit of algae looks more natural anyway, but not to much though. Just keep your eye on ammonia and nitrite levels. hope this helps .

    HP on tanks

hey vjarn there is a place on henderson valley rd west ak called tough tanks, www.toughtanks .co.nz, i dont know if its the one you are talking about but they are good, very helpfull. the h.p thing well i think h/wood does.
  5. Ive had mine since boxing day, he is about 6inch already, so he is growing fast,if the ones you saw were from hollywood mt roskil he is from the same tank,he has left them at a stand still. I'm keeping him with a bornio tiger around 3inch, an albino plec about 2inch and an angelicus synodontis about 4.5inch. My tank is 260 ltrs wich is going to be to small but i am going to upgrade at some stage, i am going to get my bro's digi soon at take some picks. From my research i have found that a/bichir tend to be short and fat rather than longer, i was trying to find out if there are short body and long body variety but havent had any luck, yet, i guess i will find out though the rate this guy is growing.cheers
  6. Sweet thanks guys, my filter has pretty good output so it breaks the surface of the water quite well, i guess all should be good, cheers
  7. Hey guys is it important to use air pumps? or does it not really matter? do i need to airate my tank if my filter has quite good output?

    air pumps

I think you can buy piston type pumps.
  9. Hey i have an albino bichir, bought from hollywood from the same tank as the ones you have seen, i would have liked to get an ornate bichir but as you said they were all sold. My a/bichir is great and trust me they look better when they get bigger, mine has grown heaps, and faster than the ones at h/wood,huge difference, maybe its the ox heart ive been feeding him. Albino bichir tend to be more active than ornate ones, mine swimms around like crazy, and i dont think they grow as big either. I will try to get an ornate bichir later when i get a bigger tank cause they do look cool. I totaly recommend getting one

    hiding places

Hey agoh, i have a B/tiger a albino bichir and a clown synodontis, im thinking about just having plants and no caves.
  11. Hey guys how important is it to have hiding places for fish? e.g they say cichlids like to have hiding places, caves and stuff like that. Ive been to a few web sites looking at peoples tanks from asian countries and most people there dont have anything in there tanks at all, not even gravel. I kinda get sick of my fish hiding all the time, i meen whats the point of having nice fish when you cant even see them? I know its more natural and all but if i take away there hiding places are they gonna freak or will they get used to it? any ideas?
  12. I have an auto sprayer in my lounge about 5 mtrs from my tank, ive had it for about 2 months and havent had any probs, although ive got lids and a hood.
  13. Yea malafix is good, and you could try some clown loaches for the snails if you want to splash out?
  14. Yea i have the same problem i feed my fish ox heart and raw prawn, my c loaches always come to the top and seem to scare my b tiger away, so much for him being the boss. I decided to sell my loaches last week, not because i dont like them, because they were starting to annoy my b tiger, its a shame cause they were nice.

    raising my ph

Sweet sounds better, so pretty much the same as putting it in my filter.

    raising my ph

Sweet so the coral doesnt come into contact with the water? Its all done through the air bubbles?
  17. Yea i agree with morf, i had a silver aro and man was it skiterish, it used to jump like crazy, and do some real damage to himself. He is huge now prob comming up to about 2 foot, i dont know if the coloured aro's are so bad for jumping though. Silvers get that drop eye, usually in one eye, and i think the coloured aro's arent so prone to getting it, jansens have had a couple in there stores, you could prob cut a dea with them cause they have been there for for so long.

    raising my ph

cool, i guess that would do the same thing, coral seems to work alrite my ph isnt doing anything crazy(yet) i will keep my eye on it though, i just cant be bothered with chemicals, i would rather do a weekly water change and leave it at that.
  19. I bought some new gravel a couple of months ago, its a dark gravel cant remember what it was called, but now my ph has droped quite low.I have put some small broken pieces of coral into my filter and the ph has gone back up to just over 7. Does any one know if doing this will harm my fish, being freshwater, they seem allrite, or does anyone know a better way to raise ph without having to play around with chemicals? cheers:)
  20. Hi i'm Jason, i joined at the end of last year and love cruising this site and reading the forums, its great to get information from people with the same interests. I have a 260ltr tank with a bornio tiger a bichir a clown synodontis and a albino plec. They are all still quite young but all get on quite well, the bornio being the boss of course. I think im fish mad, as i have choped and changed my fish so often its not funny. I just love getting new fish, ive had community setups, malawi setups, arowana, oscars, alsorts, but i think i will stay with what ive got now, cause they are so cool(and expensive). Well i look forward to shearing info with everybody, cheers.
  21. Sweet cheers guys, it doesnt bother me that they get hungry, i'd rather have hungry fish, than fish that wont eat at all.
  22. Yea i dont know, the water temp usually stays the same, i'm wondering if its something to do with the water conditioner i use(stress coat) maybe its the aloe in it? or could it be something to do with the clorine in the water?
  23. I have a borneo tiger, and a bichir, they are usually quite timmid and like to hide but about an hour after a water change they come up to me and beg like dogs for a feed, when i feed them they cant get enough, and fast enough.
  24. cool thanks for the info guys.
  25. Every time i do a water change, my fish seem to get really hungry, does anyone know why this is?
