  1. did you test the water and do a post disaster review? if the filter was running and you did not feed over a normal amount, should not spike. even if you fed slightly more than usual, it shouldnt spike so much that everything is dead but 4! i guess, it comes to volume of water filter configuration stocking and size of fish.
  2. brichardi needs warm waters doesnt it? doesnt say in that article. but i want the least expense when it comes to heating my water. if convicts are the most efficient, they i would be tempted to heat it up to 22c. though right now, my gold fish tub in my garage at ambient temp is 20c. i would expect in summer, that would increase 3 to 4 degrees. but right now is 20c. convicts breed in 20c?
  3. yes it would. and we can ship it in recycled cardboard boxes and envorimentally friendly poly boxes:D
  4. yeah colder though? 22 degrees? basically, unheated tank, will convicts breed. i like the ideas of kribs and convicts as they are bigger and easier to bulk up. but the cold water may be an issue
  5. yeah, tiger fish would rock but the likelihood of any of those coming in is so slim, might as well move countries:D maf wont hav a problem breeding endangered animals so long as your breeding stock is legal, and cites approves of facilities im sure. or else im sure john campbell wo uld like t hear bout it:D
  6. mollies look slow and bigger than platties and swordtails, may go with mollies.
  7. are all of them equal in speed of growth and care? cooler waters they will still breeD? basically i dont need to separate them? i ca just have a giant bunch in my 1200litre and they will breed right ? how bout fry, will they eat it or is there enough space for everyone to get along?
  8. sounds good, guess want my own colony too, dont wanna be a sponge:D lol mollies and platties sound easy enough too
  9. what breeds easiest in waters that are colder. also, which babies grow fastest and the most prolific breeders? Also in saying that, can anyone spare a good sample of specimens? a good colony that will breed exponentially?
  10. yeah, or a greenhouse like butterfly creek. actually having a heated pond for aros to try and breed is not as unachievable in nz as you may think. youc an probably set one up for the price of a reasonably priced car! i was thinking of doing it if i had land, and market it as NZ BRED, clean and green 100% pure arowana:D yeah, it would take generations to see traits but i believe they would do it enmasse, i would. iw ould take numerous babies, raise to adulthood and then cross their babies and their babies babies..... to cut down traits. but none the less, still a very large operation. i actually think that breeding arowana is not as hard as you may think. the key is having the land and the fish. who knows. maybe one day, someone in nz will breed arowana for fun:D
  11. guppies are too small. platties and mollies... are they not the same fish? they look the same. what grows faster, molly or platties? what is quicker to breed? and how many babies does one molly/platty have each birth?
  12. no ones buying the tank yet, so im just listing, im in no hurry to remove them untill i move out:D so for now, i can use it to breed. mollies sounds like a good idea. i was hoping something that gets bigger, but i would have to put numerous convict pairs in there. with mollies, i can just pile them in right? so with mollies ic an just put in a few fems, maybe 20% the amount of fems in males? or just a few males?
  13. Ok, i knwo some cichlids you can only have 1 male 1 female to have a family. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish/auction-384566544.htm these are convicts on TM, 2 fems 1 male. if i keep them in a 1200 litre tank, will they breed in temps of 22 ish? also, will the male breed with the other female at the same time? or will it be better to get just 1m 1f? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish/auction-384566543.htm i assume these are albino or white convicts? Or shall i get some kribensis? will kribensis breed in a colony type set up? where i have a couple makes or 1 male and multiple fems and they just keep on breeding? i basically want to mass product life fish as fast as possible, as efficiently as possible in one tank. no separating. basically im looking at having these, to breed, i dont want to separate the babies too, can i just leave the babies in the same tank?
  14. This is a cross between a Gold and a high quality red. called SAPPHIRE GOLD - though thats just a brand name of course, but generallys peaking this is a cross. very nice indeed
  15. 15 massivores a day! wow, thts alot! that thing will grow large in no time
  16. a fish eating hikari sticks will be extremely easy to train onto massivore. my black and jar ate massivore easily enough. i reckon you should train yours too! guaranteed will thicken the fish!
  17. maybe if it dried, it impacts bacterial. but im sure people here would have to do WCs on their bio ball sumps too, so im sure it will be ok, just minimize the time of dryness i guess when you use the canister, youw ont have a problem i think.
  18. haha my take on fish size and growht. is feed all t hey wanna eat. but water parameters is key. so extremely over filtered tank - and feed as much as it wants to eat. example, today the red ate 1x whole shrimp with shell in the morning. 1x in the arvo, and 2 locusts and a few mealworms, this is generally its daily routine of feeding. sometimes more so in terms of locusts. some will hesitate due to filtration. i prefer to rid of bottlenecks in the operation
  19. with a green or most if not all aros, lights only show you the colour it already generally has. so if you going for bulk, then no worries, pump it! get some HGH, human growth hormones see what happens:D
  20. nice looks almost platinum! nami greens are pretty cool too. with some good lighting, your green should show some nice colours if you dont already have good lighting. people under rate greens as they are not as expensive, but i still think they are cool! would love a green and silver comm!
  21. yeah i feed my mealworms freeze dried shirmp and fish pellets. i started noticing that the newly shed mealworms are pink and red!!! yeah, discus forum told me to put paprika - i believe paprika has a good amount of vitamin c weather or not the trace and minerals in the paprika can be utilised who knows. my aro doesnt eat the beefer though only clowns, so i guess its more for vits than anything else.
  22. nice read that, i believe its in arofanatics. awesome article
  23. ill have that too but will need a few middle fish. so fire eel and dats will fill the void. then carpet of albino sens, albino sailfin. just a couple of dats, maybe just 1 even, and a fire eel that im growing now:D
  24. Dats! my xb tank will have dats:D sorry tangent there!
