  6. tey have beenfound in colder areas too, colder than NZ! they are not tropical fish from what i gather thats why they can live in such wide variety of habitats.
  7. Anyone used them? what aer they like? i read they are bio and mechanical filtration that has a backwash feature so you just switch it and it flushes all the debris and solids out. anyone used this before. actually quite cost effective when you factor in the power of this filter
  8. yeah, river monsters showed it, florida has an outbraek of them, they cant control thema nymore. some areas where the water is so putrid and bad, NOTHIGN but snakeheads an live there. they eat ANYTHING.

  17. awesome!!! One day i will have that open top tank!! with the plants up top - thats what i mean by vivarium!! I WILL have it one day, but of course probably closed top as nz weather may make it too cold haha. would be cool to get natural sun though! love he pics, makes you sad that we dont get the awesome species here though. tikarmans rays rock! that red aro is massive and stocky, my goal is to have mine like that or bigger:D
  18. i thought they stopped the pet expo, exciting, i wanna go!! you should convince king to set up a arowana stand over there!! he might still have a VIP xb
  19. I got mine from EXPOL, they delivery after a certain amount. I got new sheets as I could not be bothered finding cheaper! I have already made up the $400 spent long ago! Its worth while I used 40mm for the ceiling, all the ceiling and high areas. I used 25mm for the walls, I tried to use as thick as possible on areas where space isn’t a problem as in taking up too much space and making the rooms maller. To be honest, its amazing stuff, the temperature difference outside3 and inside is MASSIVE, my garage has a back area that I blocked off with a makeshift door, the temp there is same as outside…. The difference is massive! I mean massive. In the summer, my power bill with 2x 1200 litre tanks, 1x 360 and 1x 300 litres, all having at least 100% turnover over a week was about $200 ish. For so many tanks that’s very little I think. Also tanks hold temperature better. To be honest, its not your garage, iw ould be inclined to line the tank and line it well, make sure that the poly is stuck as much as possible, but lining the garage is better. Don’t know the size of my garage, but it is a little smalle than yours law, but maybe you can find cheaper poly and have more patience hunting around for it. I say insulate it, it will pay dividends later. This hobby is long sighted:D Tinfoil barbs ill eat plants and destroy them
  20. why dont you just havea filter to not have amonia
  21. basically,c lose the door when you get in. dont leaveit open minimise heat loss.
  22. interesting, how you work that out? is this what you do for work?
  23. re measure your garage, its concrete with no insulation what so ever, its as good as what is in the ambient temp of outside temp. so basically, what ever it is outside, your garage will be the same, i had a garage with no insulation at all, and was identical temp as outside. (give or take 1 to 3 c) what you have to calculate is the difference wtih outside temp and the temp you want for your water..... your tank will be losing heat into the garage, so your garage will naturally warm up slightly but ... it will be sucking the hell out of heat from your tank.
  24. i cannot find any no one stocking them right now
