  1. the newly introduced male albino is the biggest male in the tnak, massive forehead too! but its new so i guess sorting out the heirachy. there is a snow white, it doesnt get chased but submissive definately. the checkerboard was the dominant from what i can see. it only really challenges the big albino male. none have paired up so thats not the issue. i can move them to the 1200 litre tank soon when the red aro gets picked up. but for now, staying there abit. if the checkerboard keeps giving them grief, i will move it. i will give it time. but whati have done is - whcih works for some other fish. i caught the checkerboard and put it in a net. then put it back into the water. as soon as i did that, with in 10 mins, the snow white could more comfortably swim around and so can the male albino. the checkerboard does not seem so insistant on chasing the albino. yeah, i understand the tank is smallish - but its not permanent, just for a few weeks max.
  2. pictures of the pellets packaging? what was teh pellets intended for?
  3. i will keep observing. they are inevitably going to a massive tank. they will be fine in there. ill see how i go. ill keep the plants in mind or removing extremely agro fish. so far, it has stopped after 1 hour of initial agro, they are just hanging out now
  4. ok, initially i had 8 discus. 2 were large, same size, and the rest where small to medium. the large ones never really chased the medium sized ones. i intro today, 2 large ones, same size as the original large ones, and the checkerboard is showing aggression. only hiim though, not the others. this is obviously n ormal as it was their territory, even number? should i add one more big one? to make it an odd number? advice would be awesome!
  5. wow discus tucker does not have as much vitamins as colourbits, but it is raw meat, garlic and veges, shrimp and bloodworm all mulched. interesting though. perhaps the meat smell makes them all frenzied and colour up:D
  6. yeah, used them before. its ok, geophagus cleans up. i tend to set up my tanks so there is layers of feeding lol. the discus fish tends to chew up food and are slow eaters compared to other cichlids. but, when the food is chewed up, clown loaches and geophagus clean it up so the silica sand remains white and clean:D geo phagus even chew feces............whcih is kinda cool, yet disturbing.
  7. yeah, all are taking colourbits now. some are more piggish than others. amazing, the re turquoise eats horrendously! it will be a fat one when its bigger. it just grazes all day until there is nothing to graze. i wanna make sure they eat colourbits as a primary diet, then discus tucker as a treat.
  8. no worries ron! yeah they are settling in. ill add more photos on here tomorrow! picking up two more. all eating colourbits, c gold floating. will try discus tucker when i am back from holiday end of month, i wanna ensure that colourbits are imprinted in their minds:D
  9. yeah, the chalceus is really piggish, they but chalceus do not go to the bottom unless starving. so i put c gold pellets and colourbits, 90% of the colourbits sink. they dont seem to feed off surface, i think the weird body shape makes it harder, when its floating down and on the ground they grab it. so it works out:D black aro will be trained to eat c gold. so i can use 2 pellets to feed entire tank
  10. mmm fair enough. just a thought, i do like the altum ones, the stripe ones. but yeah, just a thought. discus is really the main priority
  11. ok, apart from the fact angel fish will eat more than the discus. whcih i believe will make the discus more fierce as feeders, cos of competition. will the angels kill the discus? i believe theya re friendly and timid feedback please:D
  12. geophagus keeps the sand clean. both my tanks will hvae them. they constantly graze on the sand, everything is dislodged and its very clean for white sand. clown loaches help disturb the bottom too. the white makes the colour purer. in red pigeon blood lines, peppering is inevitble. black spots on the red body. like the checkerboard in my pic, has peppering in the white and red parts. but the white sand minimises that and on the white butterfly, completely removes it. the white butterfly has a blue sheen like a hologram on it. i thought so too, but aparently white makes them colour up.
  13. as i obtain more breeds, i will post them as i go along on this thread:d the tank is only 260L silica sand brightens up the colour so i will convert the 1200L to white sand too. also,, i find that white sand requires less siphoning than gravel. i will move the 4pink tails to the big tank when i get back from holiday and my red aro is picked up by the buyer. i will also move the ck to the big tank, reducing the bio load of this , thus enabling me to add more discus. grow them all together, and as they get big, move them to the big tank. but in saying that, also because david is putting his ornate in that tank lol, and that is a big fatty, 3cm discus will be lunch!
  14. yeah, always liked discus, just never took the plunge. the big ones are from discusguru, some medium ones. and the rest is from the person selling albino turquoise on tm. he has many good o nes, trying to buy more lol i want a collection of nicely patterned discus and unusual discus.
  15. peppering on the pigeon lines are minimal cos of the white sand. amazing impact the white sand makes on the colour of the fish! 8 in total. accumulating more! i want a school of 15 ish......maybe 20 lol
  16. Pics of my discus: White Butterfly: Checkerboard: Albino Turquoise: high grade red turquoise(apparently high grade) and behind is a leopard panang eruption: red melon tank view: there is a blue diamond int here, but its about 3 cms. so couldnt take a pic:D
  17. Hi Chin, why did you move to oz? anyways, who has your discus now? you had so many nice ones! i would like to buy some.
  18. fraser, is it with your jar? hope it doesnt eatthe jar? how big is the jar?
  19. fair enough. those parasites transfer to other fish also i take it. but perhaps discus are just more vulnerable to it. well, see how i go. how about pimafix? supposedly one of the wonder meds around lol
  20. ill pass on the compliments:d (now im convincing my gf and her mum to make me a lindht caramel slice 8)
  21. what are the symtoms of these worms in discus apart from severe thin ness? lack of growth obviously but what else? my discus are all eating now - should i soak the colourbits in something? or just feed them up and see how i go? i might pick up a pack of discus tucker tomorrow - give them a treat every few days. but i want to ensure that the discus are used to pelleted food and not spoil them.
  22. what isthe most common worm for discus? aviverm is commonly avail in petshops. do you dose the water? or the food?
  23. ok, so adtape is the one that is a general wiper out of bugs? is there an all in one thing i can dose the water with? as for the garlic, the dicus tucker, its frozen - does that retain the garlics goodness? i assume mike from bio suppliers uses fresh stuff, he has a good reputation.
  24. lol, if you are serious i can ask them:D but i thought it was very professional
  25. discus tucker, does anyone here find that when you open it, its all nice and fresh, then it starts to get freezer burn and gets all crusty. also, the good stuff in garlic, freezing it preserves the goodness? or does it destroy it?
