  2. hiya well we finally got gravel and heating issues sorted and now i have some pics for ya. This one of the old tanks from the napier seahorse farm i bought in april this year. It going to house our almost 3ft silver arowana as well as some large cats and severums. Clicky here for piccytures Thanx peter
  3. I made a stand from 4x2 for the top and bottom plates, 3x4 for the legs, only has 6 legs with braces and 20mm ply on the top, then poly, then tank, year and a bit later still strong and sound. Same as your design but less legs lol Holds a tank 6' x2' x2'2" with 4ft sump underneath and all the other fishy bits needed to run a tank Photo Thanx peter
  4. i am so bad, i dont even check my threads after making them sheesh Thank you warren for the suggestion. I will look into the gel coat stuff. I will make a new thread for these tanks and show some photos and link back to these threads. Thanx peter
  5. hiya's been busy and havent been here for a while, thanx for the idea suphew, i could use that black drainage pipe with the holes already in it then make it like you suggested Alan - I still havent made the diagram yet but will get there. Can you suggest a CAD/3D type program for giving artists impressions? trial or full use shareware will do as i will prolly only use it the once lol Thanx peter
  6. Alan Its a odd shape, a parallelogram, but its around 10.000 litres in volume. The smaller one is around 3000 or 4000 liters. I'll draw diagram later tonight when i get home from work to show shape and size. Thanx peter
  7. hiya Bill Thanx for that, tiz a good idea, didnt think of using a skilly. I can modify your idea to suit. I need the sheet about 60 - 100 mm off the bottom with about 500 KG of gravel sitting on it. proberly can support the plates with many tubes standing on end. Instead of air uplifts i will be using a 5000 liter an hour pump connected to a 50mm pipe and that goes up over the edge to the heater filter etc. The idea is taking the water from underneath the gravel to prevent fish babies from getting sucked up a 50mm pipe and getting munched by the pump, had thought of an overflow box but babies can still go "over the edge" lol Thanx heaps peter
  8. Hiya I need to find some suitable slotted or holey plates / sheets to use as under the gravel as an under gravel style filter. need about 10 sq meters, What can you suggest? I have thoought about laser cutting plastic but too expensive, have thought about plastic baskets from payless plastics joined together. any other suggestions? Thanx peter
  9. Slappers - Sweet as - Thank you for looking though Thanx peter

  12. Hiya's I have gotten some new (old but new to me) tanks and want to repaint the insides (fiberglass) it has been painted before in a deep blue colour and i want to paint it black to throw out the colour of hte fish and to give the illusion of depth. So bearing in mind i cant afford some nano technology super duper $200 a liter marine paint, what would be ok for it? I was thinking hard enamal paint that has been left to fully cure and harden. What can you suggest? TIA Peter
  13. hi the aquatic mix will be ok as long as you have a good layer over the top, i have 3 inches of sand over the top of mine, the plants love it Is the nitrates because its a new setup? (new water) they should settle. how long has it been running for since you getting it? Peter
  14. here is my stand contructed from 3x4 for the legs, 2 x 4 for the top and bottom with 20mm ply on the top, nailed with 6" nails and "no more nails" glue. Strong as, doesnt give at all. Holds up around a 1000kg all up Tank size 6ft x 2 ft x 2ft 2 inches Click here Thanx peter
  15. hehe cool picture , well done.
  16. 6 years ago i had a 500 litre 6 foot tank, It was sitting on a small platform a few inches off the floor, well my daughter had a dolls cot and was swinging it around and it hit the tank shattering it and all its contents went all over the floor, Fish, plants gravel the lot was dragged out of the tank by the water rush, the house was on poles and when i went outside the underneath looked like a giant shower lol, Lucky at the time my brother was a carpet layer so he helped me uplift the carpet and drape it over the clothesline to dry it out, we relaid it a few weeks later, got a big heater to dry the house as over half of the floor of the house was soaked. $200 later i had repaired the tank better than it was before and made a proper stand, both me and my daughter learnt something that day lol.
  17. awesome tank If ya want some mini sag PM me and you are welcome to come raid my tank for some, i have heaps
  18. Chim - Give ya $50 for ya crappy lil point and shoot P100
  19. The warehouse, Blue LED xmas lights 90 for $40 with transformer the only thing ya need to do is mount them in ya hood, and if ya use the controller that comes with it, it switches between 3 strings or fades between the strings to give a forest canopy effect or wave effect.
  20. Cees: In a new telecom 2 wire BT jackpoint there is still a 1uf cap inside connecting pin 2 to a wire in the phone, This i think is to make it ring, so there fore as you arnt using BT jackpoints in your ph network maybe placing a cap behind the RJ45 socket in the patch panel or RJ45 wall socket may work, see image below. site http://www.telepermit.co.nz/PTC200X12.html Image Thanx peter
  21. or anoither easier way would be to hook up a 240v/240v relay to ya main lights after the timer, wire it so when the timer comes on the sump light circuit is open making the lights off, after the required on time the timer turns the main lights off making the sump circuit closed and the sump lights are on after main lights are out
  22. Helifax: The same switch i mentioned in the moonlights thread under saltwater will do the trick , Jaycar has the kit. click here for a kit from jaycar electronics costing $25
  23. Thats all those solar night lights do, they charge 2 x AA during the day and at night turn on, they have a LDR circuit for day / night switching. you could wire the LEDS in parallel instead of series to keep the voltage down so you can use normal rechargable batts. or you could do away with the batts alltogether and just use a 240 - 12 or 18v transformer. then you could do away with the charging circuit too, just use the LDR switching circuit to turn them on and off Click here for a light switch circuit click here for a kit from jaycar electronics costing $25 hhmmm thanx helifaxNZ you just gave me another idea for me moons lol
