  1. Thanx everyone for your input Certainly gives me somethng to think about. I'll use it during the initial testing stages of the tank (never tested it yet) and in the meantime save up for a new one i think Thanx Heaps
  2. thanx chimera, i looked at the price on that, $289.00 US but that was only one site. I dont need one that grunty but i can reduce the flow with a valve and im limited by my wallet too lol Oh and limited by time as well, so far taken a year to collect some stuff, had the tank made and been sitting in me lounge for last 3 months, my friends call it the glass coffee table, lol finally made the stand last weekend, Its sitting in my kitchen at the moment and my friends have been calling it the "kitchen island" lol Taking a long time heh
  3. Its only a 6ft tank x 2 ft x 2 ft , I found the pump in my junk pile, i been collecting all kinds of crap for this tank setup for the last year or so lol, Just sorting through it all and seeing what i can use an what i cant. I fired it up, its not too noisey at all, i was suprised, the impeller is all plastic so no metal bits. I cant really afford to buy a flash pump. (i seen some prices in the fishy shops and they scared me a little lol) Most things i can do myself. Thanx Peter
  4. Its made by email industries in NZ , Its 2.9 amps continuous, Its actually an idler pump for when the pool isnt in use but still want to keep the flow going, its a normal electric moter with a plastic pump bolted on the front, havent pulled it apart yet to check for metal bits, was about to fire it up to check the noise level. Thanx peter
  5. Hiya's another question from me (and not the last probaly) Is a spa pool pump ok to use on a large tank? its not a big one but larger than most pumps in the fishy shops. I can reduce the flow with a valve, I was going to try it but thought i woud get some input first, I cant really see a problem apart from noise if its a loud one as the tank is in the lounge. Thanx Peter
  6. Hiya Warren The contacts are rated for 24VDC @ 1A I'm using those to trigger another 12v relay with 10A 240 VAC contacts to switch the equipment. Being as this relay box is only for the lights probally dont need contacts rated so high but i always use higher in electrics, tends to last longer and no hassles in the long run. Each light will turn off 1 by 1 every 15 - 20 mins trying to replicate the sun going down then before the last light is off the "moon" is going to come out Im buying the "moon" controller from a guy who sells them on Ebay, It replicates the moon cycles as in nature. As for the computer im using a 200 Mhz with a flashcard to run a cut down version of NT4 and the controller software, This way it will have no moving parts (less to break and crash) and i can connect it to my network and admin it via terminal services. I can also hook a small LCD up to it to display temps etc if i want too. It will be running through a UPS as well Thanx Peter
  7. Doh!! how daft is that lol Didnt look down the bottom, Thanx Heaps
  8. Hiya After looking at the interesting posts and ideas on this site for several months i finally signed up Im currently building my dream tank, 1840 mm x 600mm x 650mm. Just finished the stand over the weekend, very pleased with the result, all nice and square etc took me 7 hours to make it lol Next phase is to get the control equipment mounted in the stand with the filtering etc then i can place the tank on the stand and hook it up to the equipment under it and test fill it before making the shroud around it. I have some controllers by ICPcon Listed below http://www.icpdas.com/products/7000/i-7520r.htm http://www.icpdas.com/products/7000/i-7067.htm Basiclly those 2 are the interface to a computer and a relay box. The relay box is goin to be used for the lights and controlled by the computer, Just a simple timer script really. Anyway my question is, Who here knows of a NZ supplier for more of these controllers? I would like temp etc controlled by the computer as well. Thought i would ask here as i know some other tanks are controlled by a computer as well. Thanx Peter PS, will post pics i have so far for those interested
