  1. What do small almost microscopic pods feed on? Detritus and undecayed food sources. Same stuff polyps would be more than likely interested in.
  2. Im sorry Layton, but the above statement really is garbage. Sand DOES assist to feed coral polyps. It does so by providing: 1: Not quite decayed detritus and food scraps exiting the sand and feeding 2: releasing microscopic critters and bacteria for the coral 3: Releasing nutrients to the water column which can be beneficial to some orghanisms and not so good to others. Even nutrients released from the sand will feed coral to some extent. A microscpe would show that there are lots of food types in a sand bed.
  3. The water is what keeps the chemical in its structural form. Take the water away and it will dissolve with the air I think.
  4. When you eat sardines and salmon out of a tin, you eat the bones and all, (Well I do anyway). It gets digested. The polyp will do the same!
  5. CURRENT FLOW IS HIGHER ON THE REEF EDGE.
  6. Sandbeds contain critters that break down "floating" matter, (Now that its in the sandbed), to extremely microscopic sizes more than just floating around can do. Small critters are consuming, then crapping and smaller critters are consuming thaty crap and pooing mmore crap. The breakdown of matter is similar to a compost heap..... Think about it.

What are looking to keep at the end of the day? Soft corals and fish or stony hard corals?

    I love these fish.
  9. I also have a small deep sandbed in my sump which I NEVER touch. I can often see pods swimming around this part of my sump.
  10. I do believe I got a boost of pods through SKUZZA. I purchased about 30 kilos off him for my tank and I think it was VERY mature. I might be wrong....Skuz?
  11. Well there you go then Puttputt.....sand.... Heres a couple of horrible sandbed shots.....
  12. Chim...I do a major sand siphon, (detritus), every second water change or 3 months.
  13. Mmmm....Its still trying to shake off the zeovit!!! I'd say she'll start cranking in the next couple of weeks. I'll post pics.
  14. Sorry guys if I am coming across arogant of late....Having MASSIVE personal issues with the EX and my children. Thanks Fay!! Chim...I noticed your font was rather small!!!!
  15. No worries puttputt. Layton, Not for talking!! Maybe they whisper....
  16. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjec ... tout.shtml This is just one site I found in 2 minutes.
  17. WASP has taught me many ways in this hobby.
  18. NOW WASP IS A MAN WHO LEARNS AND LISTENS AND IS OPEN MINDED LIKE MYSELF, THE PROOF IS IN HIS STATEMENT.
  19. And yes I do believe the crap that comes out of the sandbed contributes to colours in corals, (Along with other things).
  20. WHATS NOT THE ONLY WAY? I NEVER STATED A WAY. "AS GOOD AS ANY"......YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN MY TANK. So many people don't learn on this forum it blows me away. Too many people are closed minded and too proud for there own good and stubborn. I have learned tonnes of information on this site and I have practiced and tried most things suggested. That is how you learn the best methods. If someone has success with BB, great. Yes there are many ways to have a successful reef. But skill, moderation, balance and common sense and open mindedness is a HUGE factor and some ways ARE NOT as good as others. If you had a look closely at my sandbed, (And PIES and ALOIS' sandbeds for that matter), you would change your mind as you would see the benefits. My sandbed has matured. At first it was nothing and now it is a system on its own.
  21. I put one in my tank a few months ago. I never saw him again, but hear snapping on a regular basis. I presume its him doing it.
  22. How much microscopic plankton exists in the ocean. Do you really think its ONLY detritus. Think again. And I dont need to wish Puttputt.
