  1. The deaths have slowed down, maybe because there are a lot less of them to die. It's up to about 180 now, getting about 1 a day out but i suspect my Zodiac Loaches are eating some dead ones, saw one Loach finishing off a dead guppy when i got home from work yesterday. Hoping to get some healthy new guppies soon, possibly a better variety than i had before : -)>

    Whitespot

Sorry to hear about the clowns, it's a shame loosing any fish but i think you have done the right thing
  3. I'm not worried about the bacteria in the filter pads there are plenty of noodles so it's not a problem, i always wash the pads under the cold tap and have never had any trouble.
  4. Hi kbird, the Angelicious are a hard out loach all right, i bought my 2 for $25.95 each at HFF, have to say i think they are better looking than the Clowns although one seems to bully some of the other loaches a bit except for the clowns because they are bigger, i have no snails in the tank but snails aren't silly they now breed in the filter  , it's an Aqua One AR 850 so the filter is on top, they dont like it when i soak the filter pads in boiling water though

    Scratching!

Hi Caper, all i can suggest is keeping an eye on them for Ich, keep up the water changes as normal maybe some stress coat or melafix if you have any and my main one at the moment, cross your fingers LOL
  6. True and a GBA with red eyes is called an Albino Ancistrus, same as an Albino pleco has red eyes LOL
  7. Doing daily water changes will keep the water within acceptable parameters. I moved house in Jan this year, emptied 3 x 3ft & 1 4ft tanks at 9am and put fish in large poly bins, the 4ft had around 20 swords and 200 guppies, by 11pm the same day the tanks were setup and had the correct temp water added (no old water went in) and the fish got netted in, the tanks had no cycling and the filters had spent the best part of a full day with no water in them. Basically the tanks were completely uncycled but with 20% bi daily water changes for 2 weeks the move went without 1 loss. Water changes was the key to successful full tank cycling.
  8. I would leave him in the tank he looks happiest in. Don't worry about them i'm sure they will be fine : -)>
  9. I agree PENEJANE, it's either a pure breed or it's not. I wonder if it's like a dog, could it be a mongrel guppy LOL To even be a partial albino one of the parents would have to be a pure albino. If neither parents are albino it would be a bit like breeding a pit bull and a staffy and calling the results a labrador LOL
  10. If you are after test kits Pet Planet has a master test kit on Trade Me with a buy now of $49.95, this kit consists of 5 test kits which cover normal & high range Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate, very good value as i paid just over $60 for an identical kit. $5 post & packaging & you don't even have to leave home LOL If you are worried about water conditions doing 10% water changes daily should drastically reduce any chemical build ups.
  11. Got my fingers crossed hoping your guppies survive, the only good part of my guppies dying is i know it is not something i have done to cause their deaths.
  12. As i understand it to be classed as an albino a guppy must be of whitish colour and have red eyes, so what would a whitish/clear guppy be called? Guessing it would be a whitish/clear guppy. Wondering about this auction on Trade Me http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction_detail.asp?id=33363832
  13. I have tried the salt and it hasn't made any difference, what colours were they, my new ones were what i would call fancy guppies, very colourful. Fished 6 out today. Mine have been slowly dying for around a month now, keep an eye on them and i hope your were from fin rot, the salt may help or some Melafix if you have some.
  14. I would try the loaches, either clown, queen or angelicious.
  15. I use a few 2213's they are suitable for up to 250 ltrs, just had a measure and because the taps are on the hose, 1/2 way along or wherever you want to put them the filter is lower than other makes. The filter itself is 330mm tall and if you allow another 30 for the hose it will breeze in, can certainly recommend them. There is a new 2213 on Trade Me for $159 + $10 P+P. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Pumps-filters/auction-32911132.htm What size is the tank?
  16. Can't see a problem with that, it's how i would do it anyway LOL
  17. I will probably end up getting some more guppies but they will be from people i know (privately) rather than LFS, eliminates most of the risk and i can keep an eye on them for a while before acquiring, almost like a quarantine period. I will be moving the platties out of my Q tank tommorrow, but need somewhere to put b/nose fry, looks like i wont be getting any new fish until i can free up the Q tank again.
  18. It's called needle because they seem to loose the rounded part of their stomach and end up needle shaped. It's the closest i've been to a diagnosis so it's a start. I'm picking it came in with a metallic guppy i bought from my LFS, it's still alive so makes me wonder if like other diseases there are some with immunity that can cary and spread it but not be affected by it. Without knowing what it is it's almost impossible to say. Last guppy i buy.
  19. Just found this, does "guppy aids" sound familiar Ballistic? http://www.guppy.or.kr/english_site/guppy/html/guppy_07.htm
  20. Has anyone heard of "the needles" or "needle disease" A guppy only disease found in some imported guppies, found this out at AFA meeting tonight, no cure and sounds like the rest of my guppies are destined to die.
  21. Just wondering if the Jeboa Eheim thing is like some of the bearings we sell at work, could put 2 brands next to each other and you couldn't tell the difference, 1 is twice the price of the other, the cheap one is crap metal and equally crap grease (chinese as well) the dearer one has 3 times the life expectancy. Point is just because something looks the same is no guarantee it is. I haven't tried the Jebao so can't say it's good or bad but i have 4 Eheim filters and it's the only brand i would buy as i have never had any problems with any of them.
  22. The swords, clowns and GBA are already eating the dead guppies so if they haven't caught anything from eating the infected fish they should be ok eating white worms that have eaten the same thing. Most days its a 50-50 whole fish and bits of fish, i remove dead ones in the morning and twice at night but overnight the other fish get a bit peckish and seem to like a dead guppy as a snack. None of the fish have had any whiteworms yet, i got a donated culture and am trying to enlarge and split it so it is sustainable.
  23. LOL at BlueandKim STD indeed, the biggest bit that puzzles me is the GBA's and clown loaches are very healthy, them and the swords quite often have a pick at the dead guppies and even after ingesting these dead fish are thriving. Strange all right Wont be long and there wont be any left to die....But then what do i feed the white worms
  24. You could give some water sprite a try, goes mad in my 4 ft with 4ft twin tube and i have some in my ex-quarantine tank with 6 platties, the only light it gets is for 1 hr at feeding time and although it grows a lot slower than the 4 ft it hasn't died yet.
  25. I even had a Q tank all setup but then the missus turns up with some platties that i didn't want to put in with the swords and ...well you know the rest. In hind sight i should have put the new ones in with the platties, better to lose 6 platties than a tank full of guppies. Dont you hate hind sight
