well after much worrying the little tike looks fine, its breathing out of both gills and is happily playing with the bigger discus, eating etc. mabee im just paronoid?

hi i have a little 3" discus that looks like its only breathing out of 1 side of its gill,it is still fine eg. swimming around and eating well,all of the other fish and discus are fine does anyone have any idea what could cause it? thanks

how do you get it to cover the wood etc? can you get any hair grass like in trademe photo?

suphew, i had considered that so had checked before moving everything, there was no colour change or sign of stress, i also thought of the current from the return hose but the corner they were hideing in was were the return came out?, now after the change they are out in the open all the time and even if i walk up to the tank they dont dash off to hide, they will just swim around or swim upto the frount of the tank and look at me.

cheers for that Peter, i get the idea of how it works will you have an overflow on the tank to set the water into the sump?

thanks B, i have moved all the wood around, i took awhile as i had to re position all the plants as well.will leave it now and wait for things to settle.will post pic when its all settled down.

haha i knew i was in for that , if you have a look in MY TANK post you will see the wood on the right the discus hide behind there and thought if i swapped it to the other side they would'nt be able to hide in the corner?what do you think?

hi im thinking of changing my tank layout, but dont know if it will stress my discus out too much.im planning to swap my wood in the tank to other side, any ideas on how to do it?

im trying this at the moment, i have put a fine layer of java moss on the gravel and placed another layer (thin) of gravel over it to hold it down.

hi im thinking of putting a sump on my 4ft tank what will i need?, has anyone got one setup that can ell me what ill need and how to set it up?

neons look good but dont last very long, i have had full grown 2 golden severums that never bothered my 20 tetras that were in with them,uarus are not a very good idea in a planted tank as they love to eat plants.discus are expensive but are very nice fish, if you find someone that breeds them you might be able to get a better price on them, i have 5 in with about 25 glo light tetras, 10 swift rasboras and they'ed have to be pretty small to fit in there mouths!

i had 2 20cm golden severums and they went crazy over live earth worms, and my discus love them too, id try that, just might have to cut them in half depending on how big it is.

hi the tank will be a hex and each panel length will be 60cm and the height will be 80cm so i think i will be about 4ft across the tank.im gonna take my time and do a lot of research on this to get it right the first time.

cheers Layton thats pretty much what im thinking of, but think i need to think about making it a bit less complex,can i get one like Pies put in his big tank and cover it in rock in a sort of pyrimid shape the tank will be a bit smaller than the one in the pic do you suggest putting in a closed loop for flow?

does any one have any ideas on how to make the overflow work?if i have the return comming through the bottom of the tank and up inside the rock will the flow in the tank be affected?

i was thinking that i might have to put an overflow in the middle of the rock to camoflage it. the idea of haveing a tower of rock is sort of what i was looking at doing so might be able hide the overflow and piping with the rock.might have to look around at other peoples hex tanks to get an idea,and have a think on how to do an internal return.

hi how would be the best way to put the piping for the sump into a hex tank?could i get the holes drilled in the bottom of the tank through the stand so as too not see the piping as i want it to be a centre piece in a room,it will be 900l. would this be possible?

is it alright to take out my 2 air stones out of my tank?will affect the fish in any way? will it be better for the plants or will it make no difference? thanks

hahaha caryl your the funniest! , the big leafs seem to fall off after awhile, will see what plants wet pets have got this week.

hi mark i will be getting more amazon sword soon, i have 4 discus they get along pretty well the blue diamond seems to get a bit snotty some times, other than that there really good.my little discus stay away from the bigger 3.

hahah cheers guys, i dont know what the skinny plant is, was alot better when i got it, but hasnt really taken off, only just starting to bud out now, i will be getting alot more ambuila etc as soon as wet pets open on monday ( only stink thing about public holidays ).
