  1. only zoos etc that I have heard of,Akld,ti point, parrot ranch just places with a Zoo licence. Not to say there maybe the odd one or two in private collections by fair means or foul?
  2. bottom layer?I just put about 2-3 inchs of vermiculite in an icecream container and line the eggs up in rows half burried at the surface, paper towel over the top,not really bothering too much these days,if I see them doing it will lift the eggs or now and again have a dig over the pen to see what i can find.Done alot over the last ten years, lost the challenge now but still a buzz to see them come out.
  3. just goes to show,if it ain`t broke don`t fix it?The opposite works for me???
  4. cause you can!!they fall into the amphibian part quite well?you should be able to tell quite quickly if the eggs are duds, fungus etc will take hold pretty quick, good ones you can see the changing shape of the embryo fairly easily, from round to like a little half moon?good luck with them ,they take a lot of live food but if you can keep the food up to them they grow fast, need heaps of tanks with less babies in each.Whiteworms worked well for me till I run out, then it was chaos.
  5. I read somewhere on the net that most of the water d`s in america originate from akld zoo stock?
  6. yeah,I prefer them in the yellow with red trim,I mean eyes.the white ones have an anaemic look and even slightly artificial look to me.I can see the yellow ones surviving naturally in the wild like the yellow geckoes do but those pasty ones do nothing for me.
  7. you are not meant or allowed to take them from the wild but get your lizards from other permit holders who captive breed them from lizards they have had in captivity before the new laws came in.
  8. sure do,look up the DOC website should be some info on there or the native keepers will see this and tell you what you need to know.
  9. don`t worry about the ferrari, corvettes are cool and come in colours other than red??
  10. well, you have played a part in getting beardies out to the general population of reptile keepers at an affordable price?now doing the same with the leps?and these golden/albino frogs, got to be good for you,us and reptile keeping in general for this over regulated ......place we live.
  11. yes, quite strange if you ask me,have spent years looking into ponds with buckets and nets and seen and raised heaps of taddies......nothing at all like this and from at least 3 different sources that I have come across?
  12. stuff that,I think all the overnight stuff goes in a plane at some stage?did you have a heatpack in with them?
  13. one or two dragons would be no sweat, but a lot of babies is hard and demanding.I had 23 to feed last year and when they were small they only ate small locusts which they could clean up a couple of pots of hatchlings a day.Once they can handle slightly bigger ones it gets a bit easier.Mealworms were also used but only very small ones which told ages to sort and eaten in seconds! You have to know how many breeders(locusts) to hold and how long they are going to keep living and laying for,if they don`t lay they live longer but not much point feeding them if they arn`t laying. All this comes with experience but you have to get that yourself.
  14. forage??get them to split and stack!!
  15. really could not say?diet may or may not enhance or change its colour?
  16. too late now,you got rid of him too soon?
  17. tell you what, come to my place,I have a big pile of firewood to split, you split it and you can have all the cockys you find, and there will be plenty!!!
  18. all of them!well, thats assuming it is in fact a boy?
  19. they are packed(loosly?) in dried leaves, grass etc.No problem with breathing, the internal box has heaps of ventilation holes and the external one is packed here and there to lodge the box so there is an air space all around?Bigger ones can be confined in a pillow case or cloth bag.
  20. you didn`t pay me???you should be knee deep in them by now???
  21. you can`t actually say whats in the package as they don`t take them?I just pack them up in a box within a box, feed them beforehand and mark it as fragile,to be picked up from depot,by you.this saves the chance of them being carted round chch for a day??They go overnight and cool off and sleep which is what they would be doing anyway?Have taken them personally by car over the ferry and it took longer to get some to nelson than the ones sent as above to chch and invercargill. The invercargill ones had a tropical fish type heat pack .No problems with any of my deliveries so far.
  22. I always have the odd escapee, sometimes more if you forget to shut the door overnight???they march out the garage door towards the light and if they are adult with wings try for a getaway flight,if there is a slight breeze they have lift off, then you often see birds chasing them, cold weather its curtains, life is hard if you happen to be a locust??
  23. just remember guts, you can`t put a price on your hobby!!you will have to memorise that and repeat often to your nearest and dearest(if you have the mis/good fortune to have one,may also work for parents)
  24. know a place along the mohaka river in hawkesbay where they have those huge things like that.We were eeling at night on the river bank and you could here them running along the sand!!!
