  1. Lets all remember that there are a number of tanks that have upgraded to 400w lately and most have done extremely well. Too easy to jump on that little bandwagon. Chimera's problems have resulted due to a number of factors occuring at the same time resulting in the bleaching event.
  2. I would think that the bacteria are secondary to the cause, i.e. consuming weakened or dead flesh in this case.
  3. I stopped dosing vodka a couple of weeks ago, certainly reduced nutrients and the slime algae I was having problems with, but was causing my acros to lighten so stopped. Must say that my tanks looking the best it has at present, so go figure.
  4. opinion or fact Layton
  5. leasing, and i saw that shop and thought the same, buy the bis, keep all the tackle and bait , and convert to florist. I think he's asking 40k plus stock????
  6. not sure, soon. Still looking hard for a shop, appreciate it if you keep an eye out.
  7. , 1 frag coming up next Kerikeri visit.
  8. yep....it will start with just 1....
  9. no skimmer at the moment on that tank!!!!!
  10. offer still stands Chimera if you want to throw a couple of corals in my tank for safe keeping.
  11. your speaking far too much sense, knock it off
  12. and those tests don't seem too bad to me Skippy. Nitrates a bit high but Phos is low and all others are good, don't be so hard on yourself
  13. My tank is proof enough for me. Like I say to my 7 year old, if you continue to be the one that has to win all the time, and always has to be the one thats right and make everyone follow what you want, you'll run out of friends soon. At least she listens.
  14. proof is in results Layton.
  15. I'd put my sps growth and condition up against anyones and I've got thriving xenia colonies. So don't tell me Layton, that xenia don't thrive in the same conditions sps do. I have read that when xenia crashes it can be a good indication of a problem, and also that they pulse more in lower nutrient tanks to facilitate nutrient uptake, and pulse less in higher nutrient tanks cause they dont need to to get the supply of nutrients.
  16. maybe a second tank for SPS Skippy
  17. looking good Skippy, you've opened it up nicely. .....xenias growing well which is generally a sign of good water quality.
  18. gutted for you Chimera. You gave me a frag of that beauty. You can get it back off me anytime your ready. I hope you sort this one out.
  19. My outbreak tends to agree with Layton. My montis were growing fast, healthy and glowing in colour. The nudi's didn't mind that and devoured them. For these nudis i believe it's more a case of lack of natural predation.
  20. Absolutely Positively no idea where Hibiscus Coast is.......

    ***PODS**

Karma, reef imports the fish and corals and supplies Jansens and hollywood. Hence the ad for hollywood. Make a bit more sense now....

    Not so good

Current tank would be at least 90/10. Lost a few corals early on but haven't lost any for well over 1 year, and if fact created a number (frags). Only 2 fish lost in 18 months out of 20. Not so good, to be honest, if I go back to earlier tanks a number of years ago - back to eighties - when it would be close to the other way around.

couldn't agree more, and with reefs comments re cost of this hobby. You don't have to buy all the top name brands but there is a serious amount of money needed to run a reef tank and people need to realise this. And people need to be aware of the time and cost in just the running and maintaining these aquariums. Seems to be alot of tanks that are set up for 6 months, then ditched.
