wee2.... You tank look VERY familiar to me.... I thought you go for marine tank... Are you live around pakuranga area?! We are so close Anyway, send me a message if you'd like catch up sometimes I's like to view your tank :bounce:

may be worth to put a extra internal filter on one corner as backup also create some water flow? or one or two power head + fx5 is enough for the 800L tank.. :bounce: :bounce:

I use to have brown color algae on the side of the tank and green water in the tank. Even I do a 50% water change every weekend. I think I feed my fish too often. I feed them daily with NLS... I bought about 20+ baby bristkenose 2~3 cm. I put about 16 in my big display tank. I feed my fish every two days. Guess what.... After two weeks the tank is so clean! brown algae is gone from the glass and rocks. The water is crystal clear even on Sat before the water change. But only one problem. Thses baby keep sucking on my draftwood and clean those gaint fish waste and produce very tiny black waste everywhere on top of my coral sand.... When it reach to certain amout it looks pretty obvious and urgly... I am still working hard to sucking them up during the weekly water change. it takes me about 40 mins. Any idea what can be done to reduce the amount of maintance? Anyone figure out some method without cleaning the tank for a while but still looks clean? like Extra circulation that direct the waste to FX5 input nozzle or something?

I tried last weekend gently... 13 orange eggs dropped out but I think there at least another 20 in her mouth. She ate all those back in again later on. I think the baby fish are not ready yet. Probably another two weeks? What you guys think?

I caught her last weekend and put her into the breeding net now. :happy1: :happy1: he mouth looks pretty full mabe more than 10+ fish inside LOL... I will see how many I get this time I will put some photo up this or next weekend. Depend what time I got fry free swim :bounce:

Thanks Ryan... Good point...I will give it a try this weekend. If she is too hard to catch...then I give up, hehe... So how do you exactly strip the babies out? Just put female in the water and force her to open her mouth and pull the babies out?.... Cheers

how to remove the black algae from coral rocks?
bigfishhead replied to bigfishhead's topic in Freshwater
 I used bleach..... Soak in the bleach for a week. Most of the black algae gone but still have quite a bit on some of the coral rocks. I washed rocks carefully during the weekend. Currently I leave them on my deck for another few weeks... Hopefully the rain will clear the bleach totally. I will use hot water to wash them at last before i put them into my tank. Thanks guys! I will let you guys know if they looks pretty in my tank after few weeks. OR I got whole tank of dead fish.... :nilly: :nilly: -
cool.. I think the hardest thing for me this try to catch this little female in my fully stocked tank.... I need to remove all rocks I think....OMG.... And some pic for my tank's new look....
-
Thanks Mikey... So when should I do this then? How can I know if she is ready or baby is ready... I only know she is holding the baby for around 2 ~3 weeks...
-
Hi Guys, This is my first time have fish holding... :slfg: :slfg: :slfg: She is in my big tank. She is holding about 2~3 weeks now. :happy2: I think... I bought a breeding hatchery and going to trying to catch her this weekend and put her into the breeding hatchery this weekend. :smln: Is there anything I need to be carefull when I catch her? What should I do to get baby demasonis successfully. Like when should I remove the female dem from the hatchery... what should I feed the baby dems when they free swim? mashed NLS pallets or eggs? small enough for them to swallow? :bounce: :bounce: Thanks!!!! Jack --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some UPDATE I leave the dems and I believe that batch did not survive.... Yesterday I found she holding again ... ... Then my blue powder holding. I took her into the hatchery and open her mouth three times in the last 4 weeks. Today is the third time and I believe she holding for at least 4 weeks. The little fish she dropped out still not free swim yet.. I can see the little head and tail grow out from the egg and try to swim... may be another week.... Funny enough, Two yellows which I believe are both male turns out are a breeding pair. I got 10 baby around 1cm from her... they free swim in another hatchery :slfg: . Finger cross they can survive :digH: :digH: :digH: :digH:

how to remove the black algae from coral rocks?
bigfishhead replied to bigfishhead's topic in Freshwater
Coz bleach is very dangerous... it may kill all my fish if there is tiny bit left on the rock... I dont want to take the risk. So do you have a quite safe procedure to use the bleach? what is it?... -
I got some coral rocks from others. It got black algae all over the surface. I tried to brush it and wash it but does not work. Anyone got any idea to safely remove the black algae from the coral? without use bleach? :bounce: :bounce: Cheers

duncan, I was very busy last few weeks. I end up stand and tank only. Also the plumbing PVC pipes in the back. I just got tank and stand cleaned at moment. I look at the silicon in the tank. at the bottom half of the tank, the condition of the silicon is great just like new. But on the top half of the tank it seems like corrode by salt sea water. The silicon is not very good. I haven't fill up the tank with water yet. I'll try to put some photo up this weekend. I want to hear what you guys think first.... may be need to redo the silicon...hmmmm

I just finish work and checked today. no more fish dies....which is good. Yes Ryan you are right. I saw a demasoni hanging around on the top corner of the tank near the internal filter output. He swim vertical and hide in there.... So could be the stress. I checked dead fish carefully and there is no wound and no broken fin or something like that. I was sitting there and watch them for half an hour. It seems like all the fish is trying to hide under the rock. draftwood and plant pot just not interest them. Demasonis are small and always get chased out from the cave and back again. I think I may just re range the setting in the tank...so everyone got some place to hide.
-
No...they looks just fine. there is no obvious wound on the body. I am thinking could be the pressure? No space to hide or something? As the space under rock is dominate by zebra and yellow? they are bigger than demasonis.... I have no idea.... Help!!!
-
My demasoni keep dying in the last two weeks. I got 10 in total about 3 ~ 4cm. They share a 200L tank with 8 red zebras 3 ~ 6cm and 5 yellows 3 ~6 cm. start from two weeks ago until this week. one each week. I lost three so far. I do regular 20% water change every week. I was feed them with flakes. Two weeks ago I start feed them with 1mm NLS pellet. Is the food cause this? Help!!!

Hmm...better then nothing I think. I will try to take the sump as well and see if it can fit in the cabinet. If it does not fit I will let you know the-obstacle. I will PM you. :smln:
-
yea, i thought about that...but the overflow holes are huge....compares to the FX5 intake and output pipes...I really need find right adapter and make sure those holes are sealed up properly. So that I can still fill up the water right to the top. This probably more sounds like a plan...I would try this first. yes, I had a look under the house and the sump tank is there and it is aprox 200L. He NEVER cleaned it and it is in leaking condition as well. you can imagine whats looks like inside that sump.... So I give up... Too much work and hassle.... also even for the sump option I am looking for a sump that I can put inside the cabinet, less noise? which means I need to custom make one.... I will still take those overflow plumbing PVC pipe just in case I go with sump...... BTW those pipes are HUGE too....It does not looks like anything in the auction photos... Im going to pick them up next week. :nilly: :nilly: :nilly: I will upload some pics when I get it.
-
the poor little young guy is from you Ryan. He grow up now   but no color.... I think I will try to catch him and put him into my 200L until he shows the color and then put him back.... Catch a fish in a 760L tank is not easy....
-
Yes, I can get the original PVC pipe from the seller and connect down into the cabinet. But I got two FX5, one is used in my 760L tank and one is the backup. I am going to completely stop my 760L tank when this new 900L tank setup and running and transfer my stock in to the new tank. So I can run two FX5 on this tank or just put one on and one as back up. Also the noise of the sump pump, space in the cabinet for sump and size of the sump… I might just go with the easy way… Seal up those two overflow and cover it with poly background and use FX5…. But still, to build a sump could be a very interesting and challenging project for me. As I never tried sump filtering before. :bounce: :bounce: I am still look around on the web and see which way I should go....HMMMMM....
