  1. I have about 20ish small BN in my cichlids display tank and they doing good job to keep tank clean. But as I have two big pieces of draft wood in the tank, BN love to bite on the wood. So it creates quite lot of wates. Im thinking to reduce the number of BN and put in a few clown loaches... As clown loaches also known to be good at keep tank clean. My question is Does clown loach get on well with Cichlids? What if I took all draftwoods out and make it a pure rock cichlids tank, will my BN start feel unconfitable and make them die? I feed my cichlids with NLF. So I guess BN just eat leftover NLF and waste from cichlids. What about Clown loaches? Should I keep feeding only NLS? Thanks in advance.. :bounce:
  2. Damn... Was thinking to build my dream fully automatic fishroom when win that 26m... Now its gone :an!gry
  3. Hi Guys, I was working on this tank for quite while. Mainly because I was trying to DIY a 3D background for it. But unfortunately I failed on that project due to many reasons. So I use background poster to stick in the back of the tank as usual... it looks alright. But it was fun playing with the poly and making mass. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: This is what the tank looks like before clean. It got blue color paint all over the back panel. Greg recognize this is one of his marine tank work 4 years ago... Now he did awesome job on tank reinforcement on this tank. Also add 4 lid easy for feeding and filter connect up. :happy1: Make some mass... Now give up on the background project... at least I can get this tank project move on... into dinning room. LOL 8) After clean put in water and slowly fill it to the top. Water testing for a few weeks. Change the water again and put coral sand and some rocks from my current display tank. Also setup the light. After a bit research I use 2 X 54w T5. one Marine blue and one life glo 6700K. Here is what it looks like with out fish. Going to put my main stock in this weekend. Get a 12000L/H power head to create flow. More photo to come.... After a three hours tank transfer... Most of the time is trying to catch 50+ fish from my 6ft and put them into new tank... Which is not fun  Here we go. :slfg: :slfg: Just bought a 6000l/h wave maker and works great! But looks like to have the best water circulation effect I need to clear most of the rocks away which is impossible for malawis... They love hiding places. Hmmm... It really challenge my landscape skill now... But except that everything is cool. I wake up in the morning and guess what... my fish still alive in the new tank :happy1:
  4. I've finish with the new tank lightning. Now is water flow... Im thinking to use FX5 output and one extra 6000l/h wave maker on two cross coner of the tank to create circulation. The aim is make a circle water circulation in the tank so that most of places and corners can be reached by this water circulation. So that the waste at the bottom of the tank can be moved by water flow close to the filter input nozzle and finally goes into FX5. Reduce amount of waste stuck at the bottom of the tank and reduce algae grow in tank and finally reduce amount of work to do tank cleanning... Anyone has done this before? or at least it can reduce the waste build up? Any advice would be good Thanks Jack
  5. I have a read below post. T8 is not efficient as T5. Im think to get a nice T5 setup. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32844 How is your fish keeping business doing? I finally gave up on my 3D background...what waste time and money :-? .... Here is what my new tank in the dining room. Now it is doing water test
  6. . hmm... I think Im really bad at DIY stuff... I waste about $150 bucks on DIY 3D background and have to give it up... Any perticular model? or type of light tubes?like T5 or Double Tube or Four tube light? I think I will need a big one about 120 cm long and put it on tope of the tank..
  7. Hi Guys, I have a new displaying tank setup in the dining room. I am trying to get the best light effect and reflection on water and my coral sand. I was building a 3D background to fit in the tank. But failed half way as lack of time to finish it off. I use to have Aqua one 40w double tube light on my 760L tank. But the light effect is not so good. So I sale it with the tank at moment. Can anyone of you suggest what light could be good for my new tank? New tank size is 1500 x 750 x 750. I won’t fill the water right to the top, probably to ¾ of the tank. I will upload a photo after work today. Doing water testing now... I found two 120cm light system on trademe. One is GLO T5 HO Linear Fluorescent Fixture 48" 122cm $240 and the other one is Hagen Glo Twin 54w T5 Ballast Lighting $120 What one is better for Cichlids tank? What is the difference beside the price.... Thanks for any input and help :bounce: :bounce:
  8. thank... I reviewed that post serveral times... now... glue - epoxy glue or ados aerosols (A4) in Mitre10.... i got idea of silicon i gona use from here. SHELLEYS ... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=52457 The only question is what kind of concrete or Cemix patch should I use to put on background surface. I keep cichlids..so it would be good if it can raise PH as well... I wil use coral sand with the background.
  9. I got the massive polysheet and hot knife ready to do it. But got a question here... what glue I should use to glue polysheet together? or i just use silicon.... what kind of silicon I should use to glue the final back ground on the back of the tank?... Also what concrete mixing I should use to put on the background surface? Anyone has done this before any ideas? Planning to do it this weekend. Will post photo up for the progress  Thanks a lot!

  14. hi guys, Anyone can tell me where I can get cheap thick Polysheet to use as tank backgroud DIY? need around 1500mm X 750mm x 100mm size. probably two of them... or one 1500mm x 750mm x 150mm. Many thx :digH:
  15. I had this female breed serveral times. The first few times I did not bother to move her out of the main tank and fry did not survive. Last time about two month ago I put her into a breeding net and finally get some fry from her. 3 weeks ago I put her back to the main tank. She recovery pretty good and back to her colony alright. Last Sunday I found she is holding again just after I did water change on Sat and rerange the tank a bit, so changes always good .... Her mouth is full of eggs. As she just holding so Im thinking to move her to breeding tank after a week or two. Last night when I do the normal feeding. I watched her try to eat NLS pellet and spews out some eggs, she try to eat those eggs back, but other fish eat those dropped out eggs. She did it several times and now there is no eggs left in her mounth... I thought female fish will not eat during holding.... what is wrong with her? too hungery? her shape is back to normal size, i guess she recoved pretty good from last holding...
  16. At least 3 or 4cm. I just put two dems about 4cm into main tank yesterday after water change. They fit in alright. If you have a lot of hiding place in the tank. 3 cm probably will do. But anything smaller will become nice food for your other cichlids.... I use to watch 15ish convicts baby about 1.5cm get eaten alive.... quite fun to watch actually.. :sml1:
  17. One of them is. Which is the one on picture 1. He is middle size guy but quite dominant. we will see...
  18. will do ryan. They probably have some tank mate at 4~5 cm, yellows, blues, demasonis, red zebras. thats ok?
  19. I had a close look. Base on smidey's rule... first one is male fryeri, second one is male peacock, third one is female fryeri..... hmmm..... lets wait the time to tell us....
  20. thanks guys.. i will take close look and we shall see... or the time will tell. I will move them to small tank anyway... Ryan your pic is not too bad hopefully mine can be that flash too
  21. yea....so confusing now... I agree the first one is male for sure. Second could be M or F. Third one I thought is a Female as absolutely no color showing.... rcon, any hint for vent these peacock? Thx Anyway maybe the best way is to do a vent.... I will do that this weekend and put them into my grow up tank. Hopefully they will show color soon....
