  1. Hi, I have a tank, dimensions are...1200 long. 560 wide. 450 high. I want put bracing along the top, front and back, from one end through to the other. My question is....How wide should I have the bracing ? I have no idea.
  2. yep, to true.lol All ready to go to look for new fish tomorrow. Time for grieving has past &c:ry :dnc1:
  3. YES !! House, he,d find out what killed him
  4. He was less than two years old. I had him since he was a tiny baby. He was my favorite. I got him by accident when I got a bunch of plants through Trade Me. Lol, I told a friend of mine that I had taken him to the vet so they could do an autopsy to find out the cause of death. She believed me. don't worry, I told her I was pulling her leg. Oh well. That,s life I guess. My other ones seem to be going strong. Feel a wee bit sad though, I have to admit. :tears:
  5. No apparent reason that I could see. All other fish are fine. Water parameters good. I make a point of studying them when they have been fed. No spots, fungus, nipped fins, fin fungus, nothing on ANY of the fish, bright eyed and bushy tailed (finned). So, friday night, as per normal, studying them, no probs. Saturday morning, my wee golden barb. Dead. Lying at bottom of tank. WTH ??? Got me beat, all other fish, still good. A question for you all. can a fish choke to death ?? A shrimp pellet ?? Could he of been attacked ??? He was bigger that the other fish except a clown loach and a male bristlenose. The three of them were same size approximately. The other fish are penguin Tetras (4) and a female Plattie (they were friends) and 5 tiger barbs. His mouth was wide open when I found him, hence the question of choking. No marks that I could see on his body. :dno:
  6. What about Clown Loaches?? Fine river sand ??
  7. Many thanks for the answers, it has answered my question
  8. Is it classed as a cat fish ???? Or an Algae Eater/Sucker Fish ???
  9. How often can I feed white worms to my Fish ??
  10. yep, I can see how that would work.
  11. Ummm, a few messages ago I read about birds?? being caught?? Could you please elaborate. The turtle catches the birds????
  12. Re the Kribensis. My brother had to catch one out of his tank cause it was terrorising everything in its path. He too had to finally empty out most of the water, put the other fish in another tank. He was so angry by the end of it, that when he FINALLY caught it, he threw it out of the window (2 stories up) he felt real bad once he calmed down
  13. Silver Sharks need a large tank and do best kept in groups
  14. Thankyou from me too. :bounce: :bounce: :happy1: :happy2:
  15. :digH:  Yep, at that place now Jamosfish. I dont want to sell them for less than I bought them. At the moment Im trying to fix the foor foot tank that I was going to put them in. It had been sitting in the Garage for the last few months, trouble is, when I brought it up to the lounge it had a crack in the bottom of it. its gona be a few weeks before I can use it. Thats why I was selling them. I have decided to take out all the other fish out of the 3 footer and put them in my 2 footer, and keep the sharks by themselves. I keep getting differant advice from people around me and I end up all confused. Im going to ignore everybody I think and just go with what I have learnt in the past. I had fish a long time ago and I did ok. All I want is for my sanity to be restored and my Balas be happy.
  16. :nfs: OMG, I am shocked. I was offered $20.00 today for the both of them. Apparently they lose value when they are 2nd hand. . I gotta be honest, I couldnt except that so I rang Pet Planet in Dunedin and talked to the fish lady there. She told me that the size they are, they could possibly fetch $45.00 each. I am going to ring this person and tell him I've decided to not sell them, not at that price anyway.
  17. :dunno: Hi guys, I want to sell my Bala Sharks but have no idea as to their worth. They are APPROX 5 inches (13 cms) long and in good condition. What price should I ask for??? Many thanks. Judy
  18. Oh, one Q tho. How much would a 1500 by 450 by 450 go these days?? (Just in case I can talk my hubby into selling the 4 foot too)
  19. Due to a down turn in hours of work and the imminent moving from house to flat, Im going from 3 Tanks to 1 Tank. The tank I shall be using is my 4 footer that has been sitting in the garage for the last couple of years. I shall put every thing from my other two tanks into it, and concentrate on just the one. I shall be listing the other two tanks when everything is up and running. I still have my hosp tank and my quarinteen tank tho. wont get rid of those.
  20. :bounce: :happy1: :nilly: And I am so looking forward to it. Yay
  21. Iv just had the water in it, a few plants, a large piece of drift wood. Its more the aging of the water that Im going for. I figure that water and plants will be enuf. as I said in my previous post every thing from my two foot is going into the new tank. Minus the gravel.
  22. The reason they are going into the 3 footer is because I need a stand for my 4 footer. I have nothing that I can put it on at the moment. I am getting a stand built for me, but not till early next year. There is water in the 3 foot now, its been cycling forabout a month. It has river sand (cleaned per instructions)and water. I have 2 Elite filters, one at each end. The plants, water, drift wood etc will be transferred over along with the fish.
  23. My sharks are baby,s they are only 2 inches long. I am cycling my 3 foot now, another week to go, them I shall transfer them all by bag into their new home. I have a foor foot tank sitting in the garage, but it wont be utilized for another couple of months. I'l get the 3 foot up and running 1st. I will buy two more sharks to go into the 3 footer. I take my time when acclimitizing new fish, they stay in the bag(s) for a couple of hours while I place water from the tank in. the bag is full to the brim by then. I also have a small air stone that I put into their bag as well. I am wanting to get Clown loaches as well some day. What I will be doing is selling the bigger fish when they outgrow the tanks. Im a member of the Dunedin Aquarium Club, so would prob swop large for smaller. Oh yes, I have a PH kit, but if I need to, I go to a friend in the club who has a kit that tests everything.I have asked a few of the members, but thought I would ask here as well. I decided to put the Gold Barbs into the main tank. Baged them tho so they and the other fish would get used to each other first. The goldies came from an established tank, so I know they are well and healthy. I had met them before. I will see how they go.
