  1. :dunno: My PH always reads high, how do I keep it at a normal level reading ?? I have just checked it now, its reading 7.6. I have added PH down and it hasnt budged. Yep, I have used the correct dosage. Last week when I did it, it swung right down to the other end of the scale. The next day when I checked it, it was back up to 7.6. My two sharks that I have, have been coping well with all of my bungling. My tank is 60x30x30 and 54 litres. my sharks at the moment are only two inches long. I am getting a four foot built as we speak. Oh yes, I am a beginner to this keeping of tropical fish. I dont usually post, only read what others have posted. My gravel im using is fruit salad (I think thats what they call it) small pebbles. I have two pieses of driftwood that I have had for a long time. And the only plant i have is Java Fern. Im having problems with my plants as well, but will leave that for another time.
  2. Have been told by a few that they will kill each other. But from what I have seen of them, together and apart, they definatly seem happier together, the both of them. So peoples, whats your opinion about them staying together??
  3. and of course thats the weekend I am away, would loved to have met some of you. Please come back again when I will be home, ok.
  4. Hi Alana, welcome. You will love it here, I have been here a week, and I have got a lot of info already, and the guys are really friendly here.
  5. Hi, thanks Alan, Ira. I have a great wee pot scrub, so shall try using that . I am at the moment going thru all my fruitsalad gravel, one by one, and seperating all the dark ones. want to set up another tank, but have the gravel pale in colour. I went and bought some bigger stones along time ago and added them to my already supply, so am now taking out the biggies.......one by one....lol. Actually, its quite therapudic (sp), have stopped ofr now tho, cause just thru a cup of dark stones in with my pale. Time for a break me thinks.
  6. Hi Alan, I read with interest, your advice about the peat in pantyhose. I take it then that panty hose are safe for fishtanks. Also, do the roots of the plants push thru the material into the peat, and if so, how do you remove the roots from the peat if you have to dismantle the tank in the future. Never heard of this before, and really am interested in trying it myself. Also, how does it interact with the working of the UGF??? Thankyou, Judy
  7. Hi I have two really nice pieces of driftwood that has a covering of green "Algae" It looks like grass, its so thick. I want to put them in my fish tank, but dont know how to remove the stuff from the logs. Has anyone got any advice on how to remove it??? I had thought about buying some Algae Remover, but am worried about all the growth being dead, and polluting the tank. Up till now they have been sitting in a pond, that had all the fish removed before we moved in, anyway, if anyone has a suggestion, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Judy
  8. I started off with just one tank, a small one 24 X 12 X12, wich had inside it..2 angel fish, two cory cats (peppered) two neons, and one danio. I gotta tell you tho, it talk a lot of talking to hubby to get him to buy it for me. Alas, to his dismay, it got to small for me, and so I talked him into a three foot tank, and then on to a foor foot. I am NOT under any circumstances allowed to go bigger, he says that I have enough tanks already, and any bigger, we will have to move out, cause there wont be any room for us...lol. the fish I have now are. Two angels (breeding pair) one bronze cory, two neons, one pencil fish, and my all time favourite..Hoppy, the hoplo catfish. The fish I had before we moved house were...three clown loaches, two sucking loaches, three bala sharkes, two bronze cories, 2 peppered cories, 1 plecostimus (sp) 2 bristle noses, 4 krebenses, 16 neons, 6 pencil fish, 8 mountain minnow, and assorted danio's. I am sure there were more, but I cant remember now. I loved my tank, and the fish. I would sit for hours watching them doing their own thing, living their lives, it was fascinating watching them interacting with each other. I WILL get up and running again, but not yet, still getting over our holiday away.

    Hi there

Well!! hmmmm, not much to say really. I am a fish enthusiest who drives my family nuts, at one stage I had 4 tanks going, 1 four foot X 20in X 20in, 1 24 X 12 X 12, and 2, 30 X 15 X 15. Due to moving tho am now down to just one 30X15X15, and six fish left. I lost a lot thru death in the move, and some I gave away to a friend of mine. I am deffinatly going to get started again, cause its awful not having the little critters to watch. I still have all my tanks, just got to wait untill the money comes back. I dont have much in the way of other interests, well I do, but being as busy as I am, I dont have the time to put into it, and thats Horses (the four legged land variety) I live in a small town called Hokitika with my husband and our daughter. We own and Run the Hokitika Taxi,s, so fish has taken the place of horses. A lovely wee town nestled between 2 rivers, the ocean, and majestic mountains behind us. oh, and once a year we have the Wild Foods Festival, (which I absolutely hate) to many people. For that weekend, the town grows from 3,800 to about 20, 000 people. to many for this kid I,m afraid. Ok, I think thats it for now. I am really looking forward to getting into all the rooms on this site, and getting to know some of you.
