Want something tidier? Check Tels tank, a very clever brace set up, of stainless rod.

    Big Blue Fish

Wonder if the clam has a defense mechanism where it manufactures something distasteful if under persistent attack?

    Big Blue Fish

Lucky you said Chimera I've been thinking it may be time to try a clam, perhaps I won't bother. Yes I guess I feed them mussel and they love it, so a nice clam mantle hanging out would be an obvious target. My regal has been good so far though, it's just the koran. I've been feeding it heaps to keep it full but it's growing fast as.

What is the thing on the glass, top middle, in the cut out section of the hood?

Yes I was surprised at that "dirty" comment even the rock in the close ups is incredibly white!

    Big Blue Fish

Yes I have the very similar koran angel, pictured below. Was tiny when I got it and didn't bother anything but it's a lot bigger now & starting to just swim around & take bites at the corals, mainly the sps. Bit of a tragedy because it is a beautiful fish looks so good in the tank. Just going to watch and see how things go but I think eventually I may have to bite the bullet & pull it.

    Seafood Mix

I sometimes feed my fish fresh garlic straight out of the kitchen garlic crusher so you could probably do that with your cloves & mix with the food.

Is that a stream on the far right, or one of those pumps that goes on both sides of the glass?
  10. Sharkey that link didn't work?
  11. Well now what I want to know is what is a good pump, I want to drip it in, but don't want to spend $400.00 + on a dosing pump. Anybody think of any other options?

    Vodka

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... ight=vodka After the first 2 pages consisting of the obligatory vodka jokes, it gets interesting.
  13. It's good stuff, Sharkeys post at the 2nd to bottom of this page http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/2-vt13 ... c&start=15
  14. Found it! It was Sharkey
  15. A few weeks ago somebody posted a heckuva good bunch of info about the use of vinegar with kalkawasser, but I can't find it. Who was it? And where is the post?
  16. BTW, if it's copper, which is the best? How much? Etc...
  17. Hi, I'm making an enquiry for someone with Malawi Cichlids who has an infestation of gill fluke flatworms. What is the best treatment for these?
  18. Thanks for posting Ghostface, a very useful article .
  19. You need a bubble counter to see how much Co2 is going in.
  20. I assume you mean like what things can cause Ca and Alk to get out of balance with each other? Best I show you an article on it, this article touches on many but not all of the things that can cause this. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-12/rhf/index.php
  21. Well kinda, although I don't think those things actually cause things to get out of balance, they just affect consumption of both. There are other things that can cause things to get out of balance.

    Oyster

Thanks, oh well I won't try the oysters. I did have some NZ native mussels, ended up taking them out because they slowly moved around causing a nuisance.
  23. Yes it's the same for both. "Then how can you adjust your dosing to get the ca up in a balanced fashion." If you can get some calcium chloride put a bit of that in without any alkalinity.
  24. Is it a commercial aquarium mix? Or something you brew yourself? If it's a home brew it may not quite be balanced right, but there are also other factors in the tank that can cause it to get out of balance. Can you get some extra calcium chloride to dose?
  25. TM, you using a reactor, or dosing 2 part? Either way, if calcium is dropping relative to alkalinity, just add a bit more calcium manually every so often.
