  2. All will become clear on monday, once I got permission.
  3. I've been advised by moderator that I cannot post someones phone number without their permission, so had to edit the previous post. However I will seek their permission on monday, and then re post the number, in the first post.
  4. This one's for calcium reactor users who, like I used to, have to "rent" a Co2 bottle from BOC gases. Now I found these guys - Gas Cylinder Testing, 17 Westmoreland Street Grey Lynn, phone 378 9243, who will sell you a 2nd hand cylinder. The cylinder holds 5 - 7kg of gas, comes with a brand new pressure test, is fully loaded with gas, and costs 200 bucks. When it runs out they will refill it for 10 bucks. Compares very favourably with BOC who continue to extort 12 bucks a month rental you never own the bottle, plus 30 odd bucks to refill. When I set up with BOC I paid 150 odd bucks for a 1 year rental, plus 30 odd for the gas. Total around 180 bucks and I don't even own the bottle I have to keep paying rent. I hate telecom style market stranglehold extortion rackets - go Gas Cylinder Testing!
  5. Well Done, that should cause quite a sensation in your workplace!

  7. Happened to me for a few days maybe a couple of months ago, took so long to download a page I gave up. All other sites were OK though. After a few days it just came right, I'm not very techno so it just remained one of lifes little mysteries. I'm using ADSL with Orcon.
  8. Well Done! Like the sun coral, I used to have some but got tired of feeding them. Yours looking good, I guess you must be feeding them.
  9. I'm still waiting for someone to show me a proven example where the addition of iron alone has coloured up sps. It has been achieved by the use of rowaphos, but that can be attributed to the lowering of nutrient levels.

    Bristleworms

They live in pretty much all tanks, the population will find its own level based on food supply.
  11. Just thought I'd throw in this link for anyone with a bit of spare time and would like a few laughs.... http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... did=124130
  12. IMO it is a high nutrient tank, or at least high for sps. In addition to what Layton pointed out, the absence of coraline, and dead coraline, indicate high phosphate, regardless of what his kit tells him. His sandsifting goby is looking pretty fat also. What has me puzzled though is the seeming good health of his sps. He does not really give enough info as to his management, for example how much caulerpa he is pulling, if he is taking heaps, that can in large part make up for the lack of a skimmer. Miracle Mud also advise the use of a decent amount of carbon, and some of it's users use phosphate removing media also.
  13. Before I have'nt seen it since the new light, but he rang & said it made a great difference. BTW, I'll bet he enjoyed looking at your tank Chris! Where you able to help him out much?

    Evaporation

My 250 litre main system uses daily 2 liters winter, and 4 plus in the summer when there is a cooling fan. The frag system total 700 litres currently using 6 liters daily, hasn't been through a summer yet. All running at 25 degrees. My sons FO with totally enclosed hood, around 1 liter daily, it's just over 200 liters.
  18. It will struggle I'm afraid. I'm helping a new guy with a nano, just tried exactly that, a xenia under a 18 watt. The first one was on the bottom and slowly died. The next one went up top right under the light and is hanging on just.

    Evaporation

Ghostface some people put gallons of top up in their tank daily. Probably all you can do is ensure the room is ventilated, and set up a good top up system. Despite the evaporation, you don't hear much about it causing people problems. Our Auckland air often already carries a fair bit of moisture.

    Evaporation

Evaporation is a function of gas exchange at the surface. Limiting evaporation will also limit exchange of Co2, O2, and other gases. Personally I would leave it all open. Evaporation is going to happen, the important thing is using quality water to replace it with. What temperature are you running at? If there is room to drop the temperature a few degrees this will help.
  21. How was survival for larger stuff such as mysid shrimps?
