And don't forget about the grief factor - all important. If something goes wrong with the canister and it leaks - stupid crappy filter  At least you can blame it.... If something goes wrong with the weir or the sump  The weir is an accident waiting to happen. It just adds one more factor to a sump system that can go wrong. The less complex the system the better.

I would stick with the a canister filter. They are cheap as chips these days. If your tank is not predrilled then you will either need to get holes drilled or make an overflow. Lot of hassle. Most tanks are drilled prior to assemble in case the pane gets cracked. You will be spending $100+ on your return pump plus the materials to make the sump. Aqua One CF1200 will only cost as little as $139.00.

That's a statement to start a discussion. What brand is the TMC 25 watt? Why is it the real deal? The only difference that I can see between a fish tank UV unit and a pond unit is through put of water. Reduce the flow and you get the same effect. I sell the Pondmaster units so my opinion may be considered bias. You work for Jansens, what units do you guys sell? I use a 36w Pondmaster unit. Quartz sleeve, Philips bulb. All good. Rated for about 36000 litres an hour for a pond. I run 3600 litres an hour through it. The pump I run it with has a sponge on it which will stop most pods getting in it. You could also put your UV on a timer with your lights so it is off at night when the pods are most active. I run mine all the time. Has saved me at least $1000.00 worth of fish with both my tanks coming down with whitespot.

And more: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fishbowls-tanks/auction-80305822.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fishbowls-tanks/auction-79901371.htm I see only one was: I would say twice a year I am tempted (or pissed off enough) to try and sell it all. I doubt most of the pricey ones will sell. They will either keep them or strip them down and sell the bits off. Sign me up if any of the bigger skimmers go on the market!

Furan is probably your only hope if it has a secondary infection but it might kill the shrimps. Clownfish are no less likely to get sick.
-
How much protection do they need?
-
What do they cost? Got a link? I am planning on using extractor fans on timer switches connected to my temperature controller.
-
If the clown is not sick leave the tank alone. Nothing upsets a marine tank like copper treatments. If it is a big maroon clown then it could be trouble. They can be very aggressive. I would hold off adding any other fish for awhile. Make sure all your water parameters are good. I would invest in a good UV unit. It will improve water conditions, help eliminate whitespot (done the job in two different tanks for me). Saved me a Powder Blue and a Purple Tang.

Is there a way to stick pvc pipe to polythene???
petplanet replied to Insect Direct's topic in DIY Section
Hansen buld head fitting. http://www.creativepumps.com.au/Pumps/hansen/through_wall/through_wall.htm http://www.creativepumps.com.au/Pumps/hansen/through_wall/Inlet+outlet_fittings/through_wall.htm They have rubber seals and you should be able to tighten them enough to stop the water getting through. Plumbing World, Mico and most hardware stores have them or can get them. You can cut the part of the fitting that takes a hose and screw on a PVC fitting that the pipe can glue into. Use plumbing tape on the thread. -
Skip the consent, put the water pipe in yourself. Hose will do if you don't want to get to tricky. Pressure pipe if you got the DIY bug. Same with the waste water. I am going to use thet black ribbed hosing above ground to the drain when I need it (only 2 metres from the door). Once a week max. Save the $$$ for the fish. I would only do it through the council if you think it will improve the resell value of the place - like if it could be turned into a sleep out later. The do it right the first time. Sewer conection, hot and cold water, electric.
-
I think they should, same as tank breed corals. Reality is everyone wants a bargain and most people selling privately want to get rid of it as opposed to selling to make a profit.
-
I think you are almost always better off getting fish that have been in other peoples tanks for a long time. Especially if it is anything hard to feed. The tangs in the shops almost always tend to be skinny.
-
Leave it in. It is there to protect the impeller and stop crap building up in the unit.
-
No. The small bottle sizes are just not worth it in large systems. Was using JBL 1,2,3 for awhile when I only had the 280 litre tank.
-
I am totally sold on them. Tank 1 - added powder blue, all tangs stressed - added UV everyone happy - 3 plus weeks clear. Tank 2 - Noticed purple tang covered in white spot and hiding, a few on the big angel, transferred UV, did 25% water change (hadn't done one for 2 plus months, heaps of power cuts), 3 days later all clear, purple tang happy as Larrie. Skimmer output has increased. I am to lazy to run and change carbon. I can probably manage to change a bulb now and again. The ocean has a massive surface area relative to depth, huge water motion and a massive UV unit above it. The skimmer is not so large.
-
The Pondmaster units use Philips bulbs (like the Aqua Medics) and you can link multipule units together with ease as the outlets are at opposite sides of the unit. Running cost of a UV is really a bargin if it works out at $20 at month.
-
Mind you, look at the massive difference a UV unit makes. Can't imagine Deltec strapping a $10 airpump to their skimmer. More like a $100 Eheim airpump.

Plastic pickup sticks. Drill a small hole (to fit the stick in) in the rock you want to attach the coral to. Cut a 5cm length of stick. sharpen one end. Stick the blunt ent in the hole. You can glue it in with hot gun glue if need be. Push your coral cutting on to the stick as far as you can. I have done this with finger corals and they grow down the stick (2-3cm) then move sideways until they are off the stick.

How much would an eheim 2229 be worth second hand?
petplanet replied to Feelers's topic in Freshwater
$700 - $1000 depending on retailer. Noiser than a normal canister due to the surge function but still pretty quiet. Good filter. Keep it if you cannot get good $$$ for it. -
Congrats Wonderworld, Seachem Select Dealer of the month!!! http://seachem.com/home/home.html

Good link choice Feelers Aqua One also do the Pondmaster Pumps which are a cheaper option. https://secure.utopia.co.nz/stores/store.petplanet.co.nz/?page=shop/browse&category_id=87656971f499e2a8175a311904937faa&ps_session=ccadba0f3e15456a4090242799cd8b38

Totally aquarium safe.

Score! Easiest way to move: Use your 90 litre tank to have saltwater ready to go at home Get lots of large plastic containers/bins/chilly bins - those large plastic containers with wheels and lid are great. Lots of plastic rubbish bags Rubbish bags go in the bins - stops water splashing out. Fill containers with rocks and corals for transporting - covering with water. If the anemone is attached to a rock, move it rock and all. Don't try and detach. Same with fish. Put some water in another container (you want to take 80-90 of the water out clean) Scope out the sand bed and put in another container with water - by scoping it out you will leave most of the crap behind. Move the tank (empty) and everything else at the same time if you can. Put it back together at your place and add water from your 90 litre tank to fill. Don't worry about everything cooling - it will be fine. I would leave everything in the original tank and sell it from there. It will be stressful enough moving them.
