    Breeding tank size

I use 30 x 15 x 15cm tanks for spawning and raising fry up to about 8mm. I then transfer them to tank 460 x 460 x 400 to finsih them off. My Rams, apistos and killis are in tanks 400 x 300h x 250w.
  3. Here is the driveway next door to us. Rain was from just this house
  4. How long were these guys in the incubator for??
  5. I have a number of pumps that could work. Give me a call as your number has been misplaced again  My fishroom has been flooded to, just in drying out stage at present.
  6. Nice. With 44 you would hope there would be at least 1 male
  7. Killi fish would go great. Have some spare if you want to try some.
  8. No, but wait a bit till the other fish settle in.
  9. Pygmy Cory are cool but do best in a school of 4+. Other ones to look at could be a pair of panda corys as they stay smallish. A bristle nose or two would work well also. 29 would be to hot for me, i keep most my tanks at around 25. One fighter is enough i think, a few paltys or guppys could be a go.
  10. So how are the Cockatoos going? Anyone had any luck with raising their fry? I have two lots at present, the first i took away from the parents and the second are in with both mum and dad. Total of about 80ish. To anyone that has done these before what was there growth rate like? 10mm after ?? weeks...
  11. How are they going now. Got myself a pair yesterday.
  12. Yeah, i remember meeting some one on a main street in CHCH to give him some Calcium for his marine tank. After some cash and the "white powder" swapped hands we thought how dodgy it looked and had a bit of a laugh.
  13. I don't see any problem with leaving dogs at home while you are at work. The two i have are alone while i am at work, One is a BMD and the other a lab cross that i train for SAR. GSD are great dogs but do need a heavy hand and prefer to be doing something.
  14. Not up with the play on acrylic but glass would be fine with 19mm. If it was me i would not go with acrylic as long term it does get scratched. I am able to get glass cheaper than acrylic so 99% of tanks i do are glass. The only ones i do in acrylic are shaped that would not otherwise be able to be done from glass.
  15. I have a couple of batchs going at present, one with parents and one with out. Oldest ones are around 5 weeks old. Growing slow at present.
  16. To reduce the glass thickness further you could use a 800 - 900 high piece 200mm off the bottom and 100mm from the top. By the time you fill with gravel and have your air gap at the top you would prob find this is all you could view anyway. This would mean you could use 19mm
  17. You could have the fan on when the lights come on or turn the lights on at night only when it is cooler.
  18. Next time just turn the air down, i only have a few bubbles coming up off the stone. Once they get a bit bigger i increase the feeding, just think about how big there stomachs are at that age. My aim in the early stages are to just give them enough food to keep them alive. Where did the rams come from originally? I would be suprised if they are inbred at this stage.
  19. In a pond that size i think that would be the only way to go. I have read you can put bales of barley straw in to help the problem but it takes time to work. The extract is quite dear and would think you would need a fair bit of it.
  20. Why not just put a UV unit on the pond? Is there a pump in at present?
  21. at a later date i will but for now just for easier water changes
