  1. If you WANT TO KEEP "ANGEL FRY" and rear them, You had better get used to the fact that the parents WILL EAT THE FRY after about four days, if not before. I breed ALTUM"S, SCALARE.......Blushing Marble Koi Golden Black Lace in Large numbers, and always remove the eggs and artificially hatch and rear them. I will post a piccy of my spawning of the 08 -09-06 as soon as I can load it. Email me if you want to know how I do it.
  2. Good Luck Loopy, CONGRATULATIONS FROM "TASMAN AQUARIUM CLUB" I hope your inaugural meeting is as good as ours was, and that you get the proportion of members the city has to offer. "GO FOR IT GIRL"
  3. Is the eventual growing plant the "Fine Leafed or Round leafed" variety?
  4. Tasman Aquarium Club is keen. Cheers Errol President Tasman Aquarium Club
  5. Hi Luke No they are not noisy at all. there is a bit of a hum to them, probably about 50dB or less. The airstones make more noise.... I have run an AC-006 for two years as a trial model (Before we accepted an Agency) and have not had an ounce of trouble with it. The cost to FNZAS Members will be a lot cheaper than other "BRAND NAME" products, but to give you an idea of cost; the AC-006 will retail for about $175.00 incl. GST. I have seen a 120 Ltr. (ACO-012 equivilent) "Brand Name" unit in a Christchurch store selling for $325 plus some. Our price is about $225 including GST.
  6. I would personally suggest you run a "BOYU" AC-015 at 150 Litres per minute. these are ELECTROMAGNETIC and are top of the line compressors. They are NOT AIR PUMPS as such. That would give you all the air you are ever likely to need. I can supply one if you want to order it. PM me.
  7. Hi I have just been given the "BOYU" Sole Agency for NZ and am still in the process of signing all the legal documents. I have a AC 006 which is the 90 Litres a minute model and have been running that successfully for two years running Airstones, Corner filters, and Undergravel filters in 25 Tanks, 9 of those tanks are 60 litre. It also runs my "Brine Shrimp Hatchery" of three containers of three litres each and they use 4 inch airstones running at full output. You can do the calculations from the above to work out how many tanks you can run. If you get it for around $175.00 you are getting a good deal as I am just working out pricing from what our costs will be. Good luck.
  8. Personally I think they area liability as you cant clean the well enough. I use a stainless steel mesh in a tank and you can sterilize that very easily, by soaking in boiling water or as I do using Sodium or Potassium Metabisulphate. Rinse thoroughly and place it in the tank and you are ready for the breeders.
  9. Just as a small aside Tsarmina, your meeting in October is just before a Holiday Weekend and also the same time as Masterton Fish Show. Is it possible that the meeting night could be changed to accomodate visitors that are going to Masterton?
  10. Email me the info and I will put it to our members at our first official meeting on 14th September. Any other members from other clubs are welcome to come to our meeting as well. Email or PM me for details.
  11. What size do you want? When do you want to stop growing? And, how long is a piece of string? A 12 foot by 12 foot spare bedroom's good. (I lost my wife, and the kids have left home) But it's a great way to utilise vacant space, and I'm the one who has to clean up the mess. I would suggest outside....Garage or Shed is good. It's easy to build a room into or onto a garage.
  12. Hi and Good Luck with the "Betta's". I have bred them for years and if you read some of my earlier posts in this section you should have 90% of the information you need. I didn't say 100% 'cause I ain't God.
  13. A bit more... OMG: I keep forgetting to explain fully   Remember, That you should sort the fry sizes as they grow to keep them growing a a reasonable rate... That means you should have a couple of "Rearing Tanks as well; say another couple of 3 foot X 15 X12 should do. :-? Well;..... I did say it was a "GROWING" hobby.
  14. Hang,,,, sorry I forgot to mention the tank to rear the fry.
  15. Hi and welcome to the "growing".. Hobby. I would suggest that you strongly consider the sizes of aquaria and the stocking rate before you even think about ONE TANK. My rule of thumb has been (And I have 46years experience) to allow at least 288 square inches of surface are for two ( a pair) of 4 inch Angel fish. In other words be prepared to invest in TWO TANKS from the Start. at least a 4 foot by 18 inch sq. and a two foot by 12 inch square.. and OH, dont forget you are going to need a quarantine tank as well. Say another two foot by 12 inch sq. You can probably cut a deal on two tanks the same. Welcome and Good luck with PMT syndrome.
  16. Without being Politically correct.... We are "THE ALLOWABLE CATCH" or "TOTAL ALLOWABLE CATCH" :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  17. It gives me much pleasure to introduce you to the "NEWEST" Club in the country. **********"TASMAN AQUARIUM CLUB"********** It has taken me two years of hard work and sweat to get to today, when 11 people attended and 4 gave apologies. We have now officially launched the new Club. Meeting are to be the 2nd Thursday of the month with the next being 14th September, @ 7:30pm at 42 Abraham Heights, Nelson. I have been elected President and will be the initial contact until we get everything organised.

Mystic Phone Golden Bay Dolomite (03) 524 8356 and explain what you want. They may bag it and put it on a truck. That would be a very cheap option as TNL Ltd own the Dolomite Business and also the Trucks; which even go over to the North Island.
  19. That's after you get Sharron and Paul's tanks eh?

Why not have a weekend in Nelson  Bring a trailer with you as the "Golden Bay Dolomite" (also Trade Name) from the Takaka Hill is suposed to be the best there is. Your local garden centre should be able to get it for you.
  21. I am pleased to let everyone know there is going to be a FISH CLUB again in Nelson. Of the unofficial meetings we have had it was the consensus of all that a Nelson club should be formed (TOTALLY SEPERATE FROM THE OLD NAS) and Sunday the 20th August is the date for the "OFFICIALISATION" of the new club. We will do the formality thing, election of officers and committee, but there is to be total informality with the rest of the "Club's" activities. We have had 20 enthusiasts turn up, to three earler get togethers and that is very encouraging. Long may it last.
  22. Materpet Heaters are " NOT SUBMERSIBLE" and have to be vertical in the tank and they are extremely long for the wattage. I've got a couple of 150 Watt'ers you can have for $20.00 each plus post. Brand new never used and wont be by me. I'll stick with AQUA ONE Heaters.
  23. I had a look at the so called Altum's on Trade me on Thursday evening, and I would say without any fear of contradiction that they are NOT Altum's. They are nice fish though. I was prepared to buy them for good money, as I have one Genuine Altum male and a female for him would be great. You can pick a true Altum right off, if it is side by side with a Scalare. They have "Brownish Vertical Bands" as well as the black ones. There are very few true Altum's in NZ, of that I am certain; but there are a lot of crossed altum / scalare's around.
  24. Hi cezarz Good call. Although I have a trio of LARGE (4in) Aplo. lineatus (Golden) in a community tank, with LARGE FISH, killies are better off in their own tank. They are best shown off in a "MONO SPECIES" Tank on their own.
  25. Mine are fed on Brine shrimp Nauplii as soon as they free swim and they get it three times a day at least. Water changes are "COMPULSORY" and should have at least 10% changed morning and night. By sticking with that system I have never had problems rearing Angels. Good luck with your ones. My AVATAR is one of my own breeding and is now a "stud fish"
