Testing the waters for a new Christchurch club
AMAZONIAN replied to Loopy's topic in FNZAS & Afflilated Clubs
Hi Loopy I wouldnt get too enthusiastic about considering forming a New /Another Club in Christchurch. I have seen clubs fall over over the years for more reasons than I care to remember. One reason is the LACK of ENTHUSIASM by the current Membership. Please don't try to re-invent the wheel. I am going through the marsh up to my chin at present trying to get a club started in Nelson, where I was a member of a club with a financial Membership of 80. It folded through the factions that were formed in that club, splitting it in two. Neither club now exists. Sort out why your club is "Sick" and work on ways to fix it. I know a little of the background of CA and PS and I dont want to see it collapse without trying to fix it first. GOOD LUCK, you have a lot of hard work to do Sharon. PM me, I'm on CHCH next week to go to hospital. -
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Ha. I have got a new Avatar thanks to Caryl. We can join them up now Eric and we will have almost all of mine then.
-
Hi Your angels are (as HummingBird says) appear to be normal. I anticipate that when Mine spawn I can sell them at 16 weeks and they are about 50 cent (((THE OLD))) size. My mature angels are breeding at about 4.5 cm body size. Good luck. "The Angel Fish",, long may they reign
-
I hope I have done this right. If anyone can tell me how to crop this to 8Kb and 80 x 80 pixels will you pleas emil or pm me. I think the left hand fish is the best and not unlike what I have by using Eric's. Cheers
-
Hi All, I am using a photo as an avatar that was I think taken by Eric Wilson (hummingbird), (thanks for allowing this Eric) as at the time I couldnt make an extrememly similiar photo of mine into an avatar. I will put my photograph into my photobucket so you can all see the beauty of my Angels and yes I do have experience with them. I keep Scalare and Altum. My breeders are: Pterophyllum Scalare..... Silver......Normal Golden Koi Marble Blushing White Altum...... Silver.....Normal Marble And if anyone knows where I can buy (at any price), True Black Altrum's ; I'm all ears.

Hi Smidey Thanks for that info. I hope to have the samples of three models here in a day or twi so as we can ascertain which ones we will bring into NZ. as you say they are efficient, easy to clean without getting into the tank, and they can be adjusted. They appear (from what data we have to hand) to be an extremely good unit, and I am really thrilled with being the NZ agent for them as well.
-
Hi Alan I have a breeding Trio as well but they never really took off with people, but are kept by some more as an oddity than for their colour and attributes.
-
I am negotiating with a company in China at this point in time that will give us the SOLE NZ agency for these filters. There are several samples on the way via FEDEX so as soon as they arrive I will let everyone know, and Take orders.

I got no problems.. I dont think I have???????? It could be said a bit different by some.
-
YEAH Go with the DWARF CICHLIDS. Small, colourful, peaceable, and amazing wee fish
-
You got it in one "wok". DONT EVER GET WATER NEAR IT. In a cabinet situation and with the ambient temp and moisture in that situation you cant not get moisture near it. If you MUST USE MDF ....... "WAX SEAL IT"
-
Good Luck with the customwood. The main thing to remember is that you have to seal it totally so as it cant get a "sniff" of moisture. The way I have done this when building stands for people (commercially, and I dont want come backs) is to heat the MDF with a heat gun and then pour molten "PARAFIN WAX" over the whole area and sweat it into the board with the heat gun until it can absorb no more. I have used Polyurethane and it is good but it breaks down in time with dampness from the tank and doesn't last all that long before you see the MDF start to blister. Wax is recommended by the manufacturers at the MDF Plant in Nelson, and they actually us it to seal the edges of the sheets.
-
Hahahaha... It's not a Bubble Nest Builder.... Who knows what it will be.
-
Are you keeping a weekly photo record of the fish Tim? I could be worth the effort.
-
Hi Tim How is the "Circus Piece" doing? Dont take to heart what I said in another forum on culling. There is a lot of interest out there. Good Luck.
-
Hi and good luck. We can do with a lot more enthusiasm within the hobby to make it what it USED TO BE and get a lot more people interested. Get on to the LOCAL COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER and explain what you are trying to do. Get them to send around a reporter to get a story and some piccies and get it in the Local Rag ALL FOR FREE. Believe me it works. I did it in Nelson last month and we had a meeting where ten people turned up, but I had interest from those in the original Nelson Club that will come on board when we are up and running. PM or email me if you need to know anything else. I may be able to help.

whats a good place to buy clown loaches in christchurch
AMAZONIAN replied to jese's topic in Freshwater
Hi Jese I would suggest that you go to either "Organism" on Illam Road or else Critter Kingdom on Blenheim Road. Both shops have them and price is about the same at both places, and both shops have a reasonable selection of fish at a FAIR price. Good luck. Email or PM me with your details and I will bring down some fish for you the next time I come down. -
This is a better pix.
-
Hi Pene Yes I mean the ones you have to buy. Microworms are alright but they dont have the nutritional value of the BS. Finely powdered flake is also ok once in a while, as is pure FISH MEAL if you can get it. I'll post a piccy or two of my Betta's that are now six and half weeks old so you can see what I mean. Keep up the good work
-
Good on you Penejane You have got a goodly amount of fry. I wont bet on it but looks in excess of 80. I would suggest you get them onto a lot more Brine shrimp as at one month they should be a bit bigger than they appear. But good luck... Go girl
-
Every Pet Shop in the South Island has a dearth of them. They are selling for an average of $6.00. "Brooklands are flooding the market". That statement is from a large South Island Pet Store Owner.
-
Go Pene :bounce: But remember and NOTE THIS WELL; It is fine breeding Betta's as they are beautiful fish; what you must not overlook is that to get them big and beautiful they have to be housed in their own space (AGEE Jam Jars are Great) and cleaned daily, as well as fed on copious amounts of live food. The space required for the jars from one spawning alone can cover a wall, a hundred males per spawning is not uncommon. There is one way that you can cut down on jars for the males though, let nature take it's course and only the biggest and fittest will survive.
-
I only use the blades for the El Cheapo plastic knives from the ware whare. They are thin enough to go through the thin layer of silicon in the joins. A little bit of presure on the sheet you are cutting will help also. WATCH YOUR HANDS........SECOND HAND GLASS CAN BE EXTREMELY BRITTLE AND CRACK AND SHATTER VERY EASILY..
-
Once more into the breech young man. In saying that we dont condone the action of the small containers to house Betta's, I must admit my guilt; AND I hope other breeders will also. I rear male betta's in AGEE Jam Jars in the fish room. They are in them until they are big enough to sell, which could be 6 months.

Hi All, Without me wanting to cast any aspersions around, I was in Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Doing as I do when down ther I tour the Pet shops to see whats available and get my ear to the ground so to speak. Well I can tell you that in one shop (in Blenheim Road) I saw not one, but 20 male fighters in less than I would expect for a "SHOW DISPLAY" Tanks. The shop Owner assured me that this was the "IN THING" to have on the coffee table, and they sold them like wildfire; at $30.00 each. Poor fish, and damned thieving non caring shopkeepers.
