    HELP

is she with any other fish? or do you have her in solitry to start boosting her health again?
  3. hey funky fish welcome to the site should meet lots of interesting ppl here, and hopefully learn alot , come into the chatroom between9:30pm and 11 should get some answers there, i no theres lots of ppl who r going to the show that should be able to help you unfortunatly not me , will go next time though
  4. i dont know if you cant read mate or are just dyslexic but i said near or at the top 8) ! and got my info from when i used to breed them thanks ! you can give your advice and ill give mine :-? !
  5. Gees i dunno bout you but id still love those fish even if they didnt have females, there really beautiful
  6. the water should be fine and you should be able to keep about 10 discuss in a tank that size, the general rule is an inch of fish per gallon, and i think a gallon is just over 3 litres
  7. yes leave the tank bare, but with a large bunch of fine leaved plants or similiar substitute provided for the depositing of the eggs, i suggest you have up to 3males and 6 females in each tank to maximise productivity. make sure you feed them with top qaulity food. white clouds breed more or less continuaslly on a daily basis, laying eggs in plant thickets, and neither eating the eggs nore there young, the fry should be found swimming near or at the surface among the plants etc and should be moved to a rearing tank. the fry are large enough to eat newly hatched brine shrimp.
  8. sometimes it can take up to a day for a female swordy to give birth, but if all thw water perameters r rite then she should drop early morning in about an hour or so and they generally give birth to between 20-80fry
  9. im not an expert on them, but for the first few days dont they feed of the milk excreted from the scales of the mothers body? and then i spose you'll want to start them on the yolk of a ten minute boiled egg, crush it up into your palm with a wet finger and then give it to the babies. also i think you can feed them daphinia?
  10. platties r not good feeders, plus there colours r to nice to spoil in a mouth of a big fish, platties r alot harder to breed than guppies. i cant belive im saying this but if your gonna buy somthing for feeders use guppies, they are prolific breeders, and tend to give the most fry out of all livebeaers, i find theyr also hardier than platty. but if i were in your spot i would feed my big fish to my cat instead of livebeaers to a big fish
  11. i personally think they look ugly, i prefer my blue ram to those fat round mutation things any day!
  12. i dnt think there is you will ever get crossbreeding from those three species princes_croc, for one thing guppies males r usually way to busy knocking up the females to notice anything else
  13. your tank is too big mate, i doubt most of the fry will even find food you wont somthing like a foot tank to start with, and daphinia or bbs would work perfectly, and ud fined there isnt as much polution becuz the babies find the food easily, my baby set up is a 1 foot tank with a pump powered filter and some java moss and other plants that relise micro organisms that the fry will eat, i feed them 5 times day, and like i siad do a water change every 3 days, then seperated them and move them into bigger tanks to mature, also your fluval 404 is way too powerful and any baby near the input nosle will be sucked into.
  14. not sure they hare blue and have dark blue stripes
  15. alright what r u keeping them ina trap or a tank? to start with feed them on the commercially ground up flake food for atleat a week then i make my own concocsion of food, buy blood worms and livebeaering food in freeze dried form, then i break it up very fine, so they have a healthy diet of blood worms and tubifix worms and flake food, also do a water cchnage of there tank every three days that way they will grow faster, make sure the type of filter you have is no to powerful, i suggest you use one of those pump drivin ones and have it ona low setting, that is generally what i use. when they get to about 2 weeks old you should be able to sex them by useing a torch and putting a black piece of paper on the back of the tank, shine the torch through the whole and you will be able to see a small gravid spot on the females, i would then remove the males from the females, put them, each sex into different average sized tanks, 60litres tanks will do, let them grow and slowly ween them off crushed food into normal food, when they have grown chose what male and femal you like the most and breed them, yo start getting the best line breed of guppies you have. then do all of the above over again:D Cheers Shae
