  1. Generally you'll find them in still water, such as ponds etc.
  2. A beach or Rockpool, im sure auckland has some of those, do you want them freshwater or Saltwater? becuase you'll need to acclimitise the saltwater ones to feshwater, unless you can find lil freshwater shrimp in a stream somewhere. Other than that Red shrimp is a good source of food for fish. Shae
  3. Ehiem seems to be the most prefered brand in this forum Shae
  4. Oh no, you dont want one of those! trust me bad news, you may aswell um...well i dunno.....give it to me, not worth the hassle for you...so yeah......when should i pick it up? Shae
  5. Sparky is a close family friend, Father did alot of favours for him, computer wise, so he does lil jobs like that for us for free. I do know how to wire them up obviously, because i did wire them up, and got them working, and then unwired them because of the advice i was given, however i did wire up my fishrooml, and ill get him to give it the once over. Cheers everyone Shae
  6. She never mentioned that if it was cetified it was fine, she just said if and when your lighting causes you house to catch on fire etc etc. so im doing the right thing then, getting my sparky in? and then everythings fine? and my fish wont die from fire? Shae

  10. What watt is the heater? what size is your tank? Exact dimensions please so we can figure out how many litres it is, and that way determine if it’s simply a case of your heater not being able to cope with the amount of water. Another possibility is not enough water circulation in the tank, therefore you heater is turning of prematurely Shae
  11. Festive Cichlids are awsome! Nice to have you with us Shae
  12. Thanks very much Everyone. Yes the Tubes need to be replaced, but they came with the bulbs, will be replaceing them soon. They all seem to work fine, Ive done this thing before, just thought that lights in the roof and flourecent fitting might be different, Yes the connection are all very clearly colour codded, red/green/blue. I previously wired up all the power and roof lighting in my fishroom, but after all these 'Warnings' i think i might get my sparky in to check everything, and wire up the rest of my lights. Everything in the fishroom is ticking along nicely thank you Mystic My last stand is on its way, the lighting will complete my big stand. Got some very cool things happening in there, as far as fish and breeding goes. Will post some more pics in my fishroom topic at some stage. Cheers Shae

  20. Bunch of Dwarf Cichlids Maluri Flag Blue Ram Golden Ram Kribensis Put a Peat in your filter, keep the PH stable at 6. Watch out for Alage bloom, considering you dont have much plants to compete with it. Shae
  21. I know anth, if you look further down the page 1, you will see Billaney said it twice, i knew they were auratus, however i could only find refernce to them being Psuedotrophius not melachromis. Shae
  22. Whoa, how did I miss this? I’m assuming that the above Results are of Adult Brine Shrimp, I must assume this considering that the URL you gave does not work. I am talking about BBS, not ABS. There are a lot of advantages to BBS, Firstly, BBS can be fed in the thousands, depending on hatcheries; you can have hatches happening every hour. They have such a high protein content, that young fish explode with growth. Unlike Daphnia who are often far too big to be eaten by small fry. Although the physical size difference appeals to different sized fish. I am simply referring to young fish as BBS being an complete advantage VS Daphnia, although I can still condition adult fish on BBS. Biggest Load of Bull iv'e heard in a long time! Think about that for a second, Daphnia can come from muddy puddles, they can be in insecticide/chemically contaminated water, no matter how concentrated or dilute it may be, they consume a lot of other resources, of which can be unknown, they are wild, which simply means, that if anything, Daphnia prove a lot more dangerous to Aquarium fish that Aquarist Brine Shrimp ever would. Consider this for a moment, BS is hatched by the Aquarist, in my case, freshwater that has had salt added. It is Hatches in 24 hours, then strained, and placed in fresh tank water, from my fish tanks, it is then drip fed to various tanks around my fishroom. My tanks are all very healthy, so the chance that they have been exposed to parasites or other foreign or dangerous bacteria’s to fish has nearly impossible chances Vs Wild Daphnia. Shae
  23. Or just do what i do, and clean the green off the tank. Simple Shae
