  1. I have a large piece of glass that came out of an old window that you can have for free, you would just need to cut it down to the right size, i think from memory it is about four foot. PM me if you are interested.
  2. dwarf puffers really need to be in a species only tank. They look so cute, but are way aggressive. You could have them with otto's or bumble bee gobies, some people have some luck with bristlenose, but it would be a fish massacre if you out them in a community tank.
  3. You may need to source some live food. They will eat mozzie lavae and absolutely love pond snails. Alot of the guys overseas have a snail grow out tank. You may find that once they have got a taste of snails they may get fussy and not eat anything else. Try putting the blood worms in some flow. I find that my guys will eat them if they are moving or look like they might be alive
  4. I use white vinegar or coca cola to clean tanks, both should be okay for a water dragon if rinsed out well
  5. I am using apple tree wood in my dwarf puffer tank at the moment. The only issue you will have is that it is not a hard wood so may break down quickly, where as normal driftwood wont. I like the way that the smaller branches look in my tank, but any sign of them breaking down and i will take them out. They have been in the tank for a couple of months so far and no issues.
  6. We have a NZ native freshwater tank at work and its very awesome. Just a thought, but do they turn your air con off during the weekends? I have previously had a problem in summer with the air con being turned off during the weekend and it getting so hot that the fish get cooked.
  7. Thanks for that Allister, i am sure that she would love to hear from you
  8. Hi Guys As the title says silverwolf needs your help. To make a long story short she was moving into a new house today but has been burgled in between moving and doesnt want to move into the new house. She has to be out of her old house by monday night. So if any of you out there have room for a fish tank or can help her with her fish are you please able to call her on her mobile (she has given me permission to put it on here) 021 2145157. Thanks for your help in advance
  9. I would say ditch the canister filter, add some live rock and purchase yourself a decent in tank skimmer. As you are only having fish your lighting system does not have to be anything grand, although i have to warn you, you wont want a fish only system for long, once you research your corals you will be hooked. Good luck
  10. In terms of collecting water one of my best investments was buying a bilge pump and hosing. I had a very kind gentleman rewire it so that it runs off the car. I collected approximately 400 litres in ten minutes. Throw the pump in so no more wading into the sea in the middle of winter, trying to avoid waves and a cold, line your collecting containers up and you are away laughing. In the end it cost about $90.00 to do, but well worth it. I am sure you could find a bilge pump on trademe cheaply.
  11. Hubby said shark cage was awesome but very cold. Said that the sharks look bigger in the tank than out and it was worth the money
  12. They used to do a dive course there and then you got to swim with the sharks, maybe it was not cost effective. I am feeding my husband to the sharks , ohh i mean shouting him a shark cage experience tomorrow. Will report back.
  13. Hi Barrie One bit of advice i would give you is spend the extra money and make sure that you get one with a big screen. There is no point trying to look at a screen you cant see. Make sure that the volume on the GPS unit is one that you will be able to hear over general car noise. The olds have one that they use in there motorhome and sometimes struggle to hear it (not that i am saying that you are old). We have brought both GPS's from Dick Smith and they seemed to know there stuff. We have used Garmin and Navman and my partner preferred the garmin. I like the navman better, i think it has a better picture quality. The good thing about the tomtoms is that you can download different voices for some of them and you can have Yoda or Ozzy Osbourne telling you where to go.
  14. Not sure that LFS (Edit Wok) would feel the same if they saw the context in which there name was being used on this forum, as it is at the moment. Dont get me wrong guys, i agree that they are way too young to be sold, you are right to question the age of these beardies and that is what a forum is about, learning from each other, but until we know the full story it is not fair to name the store. If they are selling them, then i agree, you are completely right to pull them up on it, and let them know that it is unacceptable. I guess different LFS (EDIT Wok) stores have different policies
  15. I was in the east auckland store over the weekend and spoke with the staff in there about the beardies (same situation as the ones in your photograph). They advised me that the baby beardies were under lock and key. One person had the key and no body else was allowed to even touch them. They were well aware that they were too small to sell and the beardies were only for display at this stage. I know that they were selling beardies previous to this latest lot, but they were much bigger. They were not selling the babies at the East Auckland store. Has anyone spoken with the staff of the store before naming and shaming them, which is against the FNZAS guidelines? I understand that we need to keep an eye out for animal creulty, but being the owner of a breadie that was said to have been in bad condition in a certain pet store that was named on this forum not so long ago and knowing the full story behind its condition i would hate to point the finger again before knowing the full story. Just my opinion
  16. Thanks Helen, you are making me blush (lol). Good to see you tank full of Beautiful fish again
  17. What, Dino not going back to the restaurant, Wok? The boy will be most upset!!!hehehehe
  18. Im with you mystic, i have been crying like a baby. Mark and Caroline, you represented yourselves well and i think that you both showed how much your park means to you. fingers crossed that something wonderful comes out of it. All the best for tomorrow
  19. cool, an off-road 4WD carpark, could be a way of finally getting the other half to a meeting. LOL
  20. I eat fish, but not in front of the fish tank. Thats just wrong LOL
  21. I think Wok is away at the moment, club meeting is always the second tuesday of the month, so you are right in saying that the next meeting is the 8th of April
  22. Hi Guys Meeting tonight same time, same place. Dont make me eat all the tims tams this month (lol) The more the merrier so come along if you are interested in joining a club or if you want to see what happens at a meeting
  23. There are a few young people that turn up ( i like to consider myself young lol) and the more people that turn up the more fun we have. We generally chat about whats happening with everyones tanks, if anyone has any questions or help needed, we swap plants and sometimes fish, drink tea and coffee, eat biscuits, have a laugh at each other. The great thing about being in a club is you get all the benefits of the FNZAS. You get a good magazine on a quarterly basis produced by the wonderful Caryl and our own club magazine sent out monthly, you get discounts at a few pet stores and you get the added benefit of hanging out with people who understand what you mean when you start talking about livebearers and canister filters
  24. Ohh my gosh you are famous!!!!!! I will have to get your autograph at the next meeting Wok (lol). Well done
  25. Sorry to here about your van Jasmine. We had the grand total of four people (including myself) turn up. We really need to better attendance as we pay to use the club rooms and it will get really expensive if only four people turn up per meeting. On the plus side it meant that we shared the packet of tim tams between four people and we had some great conversations about glow light tetras and people taking out there kitchens and dining room tables to make way for 8 foot tanks.
