Heres one of my favourite plecos: a Coffeee and Cream Cactus pleco, Pseudacanthicus spinosus, L160. Very rare in New Zealand

They are in a 450L.

I also have a couple of rarer cories...

I suppose these qualify as being rare in NZ:
Geophagus sp. "Red Head". Hopefully we can spread them around and make them not so rare.

Yes they are, they are starting to harass their tank mates of a night time.
They are now at a breeding age and size so have my fingers crossed.

Here is one of my 'rare' fishes. It's a male Palmas buttekoferi approx. 30cm.
He has quite a lot of yellow on him compared to the other bichirs we get here.
Nice Cories guys.

Neat fish indeed, I'm looking forward to watching the two (hopefully pair) I have grow out in the big tank. Here's an old clip of the two males I had way back when, even with the crappy lighting they were stunning fish!
210g heckelii face off

I'm pretty sure you can catch them in a thermal stream in the Taupo region.
There is also a thermal swamp near Tokanuu village south of lake taupo where you can catch mollies.

The three little ones are the tiny Uaru, and the one on the right is the threadfin.

Go whitebaiting, any large river system should have them.
Have you tried coastal streams? Semi-tidal streams seem to be the best for inanga.

Nice looking fish. Are you thinking of trying to get a mate or too breed them at some point?

G. steindachneri tops out around 15cm I believe so they should be fine in that tank. I agree that stocking calculators only have limited usefulness, IMO if the water parameters are good and the fish are healthy and have room to behave naturally you're all good.

Coast is pretty far away, I will try Napier, thank you.

I now have a total of five big ones which will be going into my 2 metre tank in a couple of weeks. They're probably between 15 and 19cm? I'll measure them when I move them.

Bad shots of my tanks and fish.
I've got two 230l tanks hooked up together with my big GKs in one and 8 young inanga, 2 small smelt, 3 small bandeds and 5 bullies in the other.
You can see the GK in the background has a missing eye, was like that when I got it...

Yeah you just need to consider the adult size of the fish and also the behaviour of different species. For example, you can expect each of the geos to hit at least 20cm, same with the choc catfish, SM don't get too big (only 10cmish) but they are an active swimming fish so require space. 300L will get taken up pretty quickly when stocking average -> large animals.
Filtration is good though.
I personally don't use the stocking calculators, but at a beginner level they can be useful.

Yeah you might be overestimating the tank volume a bit as well.. I'm pretty sure if you fill up a Juwel Rio 300 up to the line it holds 300L, not 346L
You might have used outside dimensions?
But looks like you have good filtration

The spotted Metynnis stay smaller that regular silver dollars so that may throw out the calculation a little. The two regular SDs might be pushing it a little depending on dimensions, but the rest seems ok to me.
