After taking eggs last Tuesday (22nd August) the first fry hatched this morning with another couple well on the way. I only kept about 15 or 20 eggs this way then collected another 20 to 30 on the Thursday and Friday placing them on peat. I will hatch them in another couple ofweeks. This week Ive been picking eggs daily and placing on peat so will give them 2 to 2.5 weeks before hatching. So much easier hatching from peat as you get the fry all the same size.

@Silverdollarboy2 Still got the natives. Just galaxiids and smelt at the moment.
I was looking at a school of balas or dollars but decided the stocking might be a bit much?

Two weeks in the big tank and they've already had a bit of a growth spurt!

I've got a GT and two oscars in a 400 litre which will be going in soon. I'm hoping both the Oscars are the same gender. I'm still not sure what else I'll be putting in there. I want to end up with five cichlids to spread the aggression.
    I'm open to suggestions

Currently a couple of goldfish until my heaters arrive. Then it's going to house American cichlids.

Used to have LED lights on this tank but gave away while in storage which sort  of miss now
I gave myself a $300 budget for fish, plants, substrate and lighting to get tank up and running
So I just dusted off a couple of 4ft  fluros and luckily old lid was still working. Think one is warm and one is cool white.
Room is fairly light so plants ok for light

My very simple  4ft Barb, rainbow tank.
Substrate is washed sandpit sand, and plants just one type of Hygrophila and then Java moss.
Plenty of filtration so have to admit not much maintenance, recently took out a bucket of moss which had taken over, but had let my cherry barbs hide a couple dozen 'youngins'
Fish are a selection Barbs,  Rainbows of dubious  origins, a couple of confused bolivian ram and 3X L200, each 20cm- refugees from a friends tank that save on glass cleaning.

The loaches are in!! I think some of them are a little confused, when I opened the curtains this morning there was a group of about a dozen of the smaller ones swimming around mid-level in the water column schooling with the Lemon Tetras (who are a similar size)! The tank is certainly a lot busier now, the loaches are pretty active already, I was a bit worried they'd vanish into the wood pile and never be seen again but that hasn't happened.

The species I have is palmas buttekoferi I believe, I'm not sure palmas palmas is still a valid species. Mine is between 25-30cm.
Delhezi's are my favourite, especially the ones with quality stripes.

    Perfect !
Hopefully I can establish a second breeding group - would be a shame if they disappear...

Which species? Doubt you'd find P. palmas palmas, but they along with delhezi and senegal would do best in at least 300L. Tall tanks aren't ideal, they prefer long and wide footprints. Some people keep them in less but I find they make use of a larger volume.

Let me know when you have some more and I will take them. Happy to pay, would prefer them 1cm long and when it is a bit warmer + safe to send them.
    Cheers,
    JaSa
