  1. This is why we have illegalised blue tongues above auckland but reptiles are kept outside all over NZ so its only the harsh winters that would cause death during brumation. But running them over sounds more like MAF's approach :roey:
  2. Yeah I know someone who adopted a waterdragon from a bush in their backyard with no reptile owners nearby other than him, so lets hope they there isn't a repeat of the red eared slider incident where they became ridiculously cheap and now we have turtle rescue centres. But I hope that issue is coming to an end, I just keep on informing my customers at Hollywood before they make impulse buys.
  3. Yea beardies have gone up in price this past year as i got mine 2 years ago for only $200 from animates. I like reptiles at highish prices though cus makes people care for them very well. Thats why im worried about the drastic decline in leopard gecko prices, they were at $500 for a male around a year ago, and $1500 a couple years before that. I guess i just need to trust they are going into capable hands.
  4. Yea i was expecting it to be more than a tortoise, he has posted another one for sale so will see how the bidding goes there. Nah im going out to get him on thurday and ill check out what the parents look like as cunninghams vary from dark brown to black and amount of spots.
  5. Thanks man, will do :bggrn: ill definatly be showing him off but then again with that pricetag ill keep my audiance to my trusted fellow fishforum members. Cheaper than i would have expected though.
  6. There have been talk of jacksons chameleons floating around but there is no evidence of any legal ones as far as I know, then again i do know someone with a one of a kind African tortoise that was brought in decades ago that is completely legal so anything's possible. Anyway i decided to grab the cunninghams skink cus ive always have had a soft spot for them and shinglebacks (fingers crossed they pop up).
  7. Wow thats awesome aye, has anyone else seen them around or is it usually only polypterus(ornate, senegalus etc)?
  8. Very true, but as insect direct said; it is likely there have been many smuggled ones tossed into the mix which have been bred for many generations, i have heard this theory from many people.
  9. Ooh mate if you saw what was popping out of my incubator you might be saying otherwise..... Also giants are little more complex than your mack snow, simple artificial selection of the largest geckos and your chances for a 'giant' genetic mutation skyrocket.
  10. Giants would reach that length within usually 8-11 months old so was this the case with your gecko? My guess is that your gecko simply has a great apetite but if you post a picture that would reveal a lot.
  11. I have the saburra 90 wooden black vivarium for 2 of mine and it has great ventilation on both sides and a half mesh roof under the wooden hood. It also keeps it nice and dark inside for the sensitive nocturnal gecko eyes. They are also very cheap, especially straight from the supplier :slfg:
  12. I think we need to realise that just because trademe and this forum dont show other morphs, it doesnt mean they are not in nz, from what I have seen recently, we are doing better than anticipated. I am truly excited for the next few seasons :happy2:
  13. I think they're pretty unreliable, just turn up on the hottest days of the year at coastal areas that have large supplies of good food. Much like us Aucklanders :slfg:
  14. The only species i know of being bred is the migratory locust which occassionally swings by NZ in its migratory pattern.
  15. Very nice high yellow mate, looking like a couple geckos like this are on thier way to hypomelonistic  you just need a couple more generations of artificial selection!
  16. There are a couple large femoral pores which indicates a male but a better view of the hemipenes on the tail would be good. Also head size and shape as a larger head would be male.
  17. Its quite common to get a wildtype or high yellow from mack snow parents. Its almost all chance with morphs aye. Dragonz is right that mack snow is defined by its white bands as hatchlings but this will slightly fade more yellow as they get older. Good news is that if you do have mack snow breeders is that you have a 25% chance of getting a super snow from them
  18. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube and it is simple enough. Simply sit your bearded dragon flat on your hand, lift up its tail quite high and check whether it has two small lumps at the base of the tail, if it has them its a male as they have two hemipenes but these become more visible as they get older. Try comparing it with other photos on the net, good luck!
  19. Didnt mean to offend you mate, i know the effort you must put in, slow growing isnt really a bad thing as long as they are healthy and well cared for and i have no doubt mine will grow to be big if the parents are how you describe dragonz.
  20. She looks very much similar to my gecko that i believe was originally from you dragonz and mine is doing fine, eating around 5 mealworms a day and acting healthy as anything but is only 24g and 17cm at 8 months old. Your geckos may just be slow growers dragonz.
  21. Those are some seriously badass snakes mate, how did you get a permit for venomous snakes? Would be awesome to see some more photos of your other reptiles and incredible setups?
  22. Your best bet would be to wait for a young one to pop up on trademe but they will likely not be for sale until march next year, the 'reptilez pet store' has a greek, herman and a boxie which is in te awamutu, they are a tiny bit more expensive than trademe but the greek spur thighed is only $900 which is fair considering it is around 3 years old now so check out thier website. Good luck finding one and saving up for one!
  23. Dont worry, i understand what u mean now, 15 alltogether in the boxes
  24. Wait so you have 15 leopard geckos in just one of those boxes?
  25. :rotf: hahah have to get one of those for my little guy!
