Just got home, I'm too tired to do photos tonight. I will do them tomorrow though. Ahh that's interesting, something in the water you think? This betta is from Auckland however, and I do have about 70 and she's the only one with this, and I haven't seen it in any of the other tanks before. She has had for about a week. I was thinking it was a battle wound.

I need to set up some sort of photo website account thing I think, and I am about to pop out to Auckland for some lights and Breakaway's puffers but will defo do that when I'm home tonight or tomorrow. Ohh warm air you say? I would say not, there's no lid keeping warm air in there.. I dropped it on my knee and it SMASHED. Really dramatic actually :slfg: You say the cold air might be something.. I see. My house isn't too cold though 18 atm but colder at night of course. Certainly never the 30 of the tank. So I need to suss a lid when I get home too? If that was the case would warm air cure it? If it were an abscess from a battle, would furan be the go? I'm always keen to use treatments as a last option however.

She a 'hm'pk, red and nearly 4 years old. Water params at 0 and in a heated tank divided into 4 with a pump keeping a waterfall thing going and a sponge filter, these guys usually get 2 x water changes a week at about 15% Now.. She has a blunt 'lump' coming out of the side, it's not a slightly raised hump but a rounded jut out. This area displays the raised scale look of dropsy but the rest of the body looks in good health with the scales sitting flat. Think one green pea placed under her scales for size, shape and odd-ness. Her activity is fine, eating is fine, colour is good. Now she did jump into a make quarters last week before this popped up but she was definitely the boss in that battle.. She's double the size of this dude and he has no back tail now, she came out with a little split that healed before the morning. Is the lump a common thing that I can fix and have never come across? Battle wound? Old betta with tumour? Other.. Insert experienced fish owner knowledge here *** Thanks muchly in advance.

Anyone able to ship fish from Hamilton or Masterton to CHCH?
Hali replied to cichlid7's topic in Freshwater
I'll organise post if you need it. Is it a 'pick up only' sitcho? -
Hey guys! Is anyone coming Hamilton ways from Kapiti Coast that wants to bring some fish down for me pretty please?? You could see my tanks and have a coffee or juice :happy1: I'll owe you one.

I have to say.. and this is brave on here.. My first fish was a betta in a vase  "Oh they don't need heaters!" "Oh they LIKE stagnant water!" "You don't need to filter cold water!" "They're 'hardy'" even "They live longer in cold water" FFS.. I had heard from a ridiculously huge number of people that this was the way it was. Quite quickly I realised a heater was absolutely essential, then decided that although I was doing massive daily water changes , the ammonia might be right but what about the poor fricken fish and the shock of it all!!! Skip forward.. (make sure you do this )and I have 9 heated, well filtered, fully cycled planted/driftwooded/rocked tanks, a good variety of foods and an understanding of the necessary elements to keeping HAPPY, healthy fish. So.. Yes education is key, not everyone wants to be a moron and I was quite enthusiastic to be cured myself. So keep giving people crap when they're not doing it right, this TM guy might not take it on but someone will I know the staunch stance on this forum and another on Betta care is what spurred me to do my own research.. AND I was horrified.

Waikato Aquarium Society August Club Meeting.
Hali replied to Jfishfanatic's topic in FNZAS & Afflilated Clubs
Thanks! That was a much more practical answer. So do I need to email someone(Rob/Jonathan), join the club and pay the fee before the next meeting or is cosh to come and have a look at how things go etc. first? -
I've found some Guntheri Killies Next week, hopefully. (and potentially 3 cuckoos :bounce: ) But goodness gracious me, I could do with some of those Longfin Tetras! African Neons, fricken neat but don't think I've ever heard of them about! I think I may have seen the yellow congo ones.. possibly maybe before. My eyes and ears are well open now. Thanks for all those pictures!

None that I can see. We just had a flatmate move in and with our 9 tanks about the house, I think it was 5 days before he bought his own little tank off TM. came home with an 8 degree Celsius, 1/4 filled, 28lt tank with 1 already too large BN pleco.. 1 bent adult female guppy and one Black Widow Tetra that was a suspected silver dollar until day 3.. So.. We're gunna give pleco a bigger tank in the fish room. He seems to like his bent guppy so I said to maybe get it another female friend.. As with the Tetra, I've told him to get 2 more this weekend and that should help with colour and hiding because he will feel a little more comfy, buuuuttttt, I am well aware that tetras like their buddys, we have 7 neons in the 60lt but don't know if 6 fully grown Black Widows would actually be happier (given the size) so was wondering if maybe 3 smaller neons to bring the numbers up might be the way to go... Ideas? NB.. He loves the Black Widow

Nice fish.. Which banks? Banks here? Or Aussie banks?
-
Yes! They can be neat with the right lighting, I didn't know what that was though, thanks There are Congo Tetras at the smaller LFS for $10 each or something similar so may get 3 this week and 3 next for the school.. A question with Tetra in general, does the school need to be made up of the same type of tetra or would a group of 3 of one tetra feel comfortable fitting into a school of say 9 of another type? Making the entire school 12 or 2 separate schools of 9 and 3? And maybe need a lone/centre swimmer?

*edit* and of course a couple of these....

Oh I do have one spare tank ~100lt.. I was thinking either, some sort of planted puffer set up, or was getting a bit interested in the whole native thing. Will be watching this thread closely. Or swap the bedroom ~60lt display into the 100 and making the 60 a dwarf puffer land? BUT if I had one spare tank, of unrestricted size, with adequate filtration etc etc... A spotted Gar would float my boat, tickle my fancy, blow some decent wind through my hair.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/noaa_glerl/4045941533/

Hey!! I'm in the process of setting up the African tank and am looking for suggestions to stock it.. This tank is designed for Donny the Pantadon. This is a Cichlid free African tank. SO I would LOVE some ideas in stocking it.. 200lt 1 Donny, then thinking of getting a cockoo syno and some killies..? The lid is uber good 8) Donny has previously been in a tank with Hatchets and fighters and as long as he has HIS forest and everybody sticks to their own forest, he's happy and they're alive Swimmy fish? I originally thought Hatchet's were African and they were supposed to be in there but nope. They wont do well in the SA tank either. Any middle dwelling ideas??

Do I need to do anything to come to a meeting? -
Pantadon.. Do it. Yup we have one 'Donny' and tight lid you need.. Donny the 1st only lasted 2 days in our other 'almost fully covered tank' Or if you don't have other fish yet.. THREE :nilly: FUN. Donny eats from my hand his mouth is deceivingly huge! Neat..We have knifey in the other 4 footer with Talking Catfish and Snowballs.. A big school of marble Hatchets would be badass.. I'd have them but got to be silver for the Cichlid free African tank.. What an exciting question.. Make it brackish? Figure 8 puffer maybs?

Forktail Rainbow fish is what these little stunners are for sale at one of our LFS. Freaking awesome little things.

I would love to buy some killies asap. Y'all reckon I need to join a club? No one knows a breeder? They'll have a beautiful home.

Heyyy! So the boy and I... and the dog and the chicken and the fiiisssshhh all live in a beautiful old 3bdrm house between the lake and the hospital. We're in the front room, the fish have the middle room and we're looking for a couple or single to take the back room. Thought it may appeal to you guys or your friends.. There is plenty of room in the middle bedroom for your tanks too. Big rooms, nice home.. Must love dogs. I say couple because rent is $170 we'll split it differently though if the right singleton comes along. Easy.

I can say that with the choice of bloodworms, microworms, BBS, the odd pinch of bettamin :roey: and the recent addition of freeze dried daphnia... The only one ever left at the end is the freeze dried Daphnia. There seems to be too many 'bits' they don't like and after sifting through for half a minute they leave the rest just my experience. Microworms are easy enough to keep going, if you can keep the dog out of the fish room

!drool: Ahhhh beautiful.. Might just go and have a re-garden in the fry tank

Purple Elephant Eared Salamander Fighter, I got one!!!!
Hali replied to Shirlsscott's topic in Anabantoids
I think I bought one last night! -
Sorry to hear this! Although not now (after losing 30kg) I had struggled with weight loss on an off since prepubes! As someone said earlier, as soon as weight loss was off my mind and nutrition and health became the focus the weight fell off... And just kept falling If you set your goal to eat all of the nutrients you need (specific vitamins or proteins through vegies or minerals from yoghurt etc..) You'll find once you have spread that through the day you'll have little room left for cr.p and many, many less cravings, I promise. My weight's off for good. I was also on medication (not anymore though, don't need it!) Sending positive vibes and hope you get what you want Never say no to butter.
