    Aiptasia

Not with Joe's Juice they aint tricky! Must admit I had my reservations prior to buying this stuff after such shit results with Saliferts version. I wanted something that was made specifically to kill the bastards all in one nice little package (with syringe etc). Now that I've bought it it's the best $30 odd bucks I've spent. You only need to use such a small amount, it's easy to apply and it WORKS quickly and effectively! Yah for Joe's Juice - 10/10 Boo for Salifert Aiptasia Exit - 1/10 for effort,... 0/10 for results now to contact Joe and get remunerated for a bitta marketing...
  3. pic's dude, PIC's!!! make sure you take some as I have been doing so we can see ya progress (albeit slowly, its still progress )

That was directed at Brian. Wouldn't mind a peppermint shrimp for that exact reason though

  7. No worries dude, glad to be of assistance! I will collate/document the whole setup and upload to my web site once it's done.

    Aiptasia

I have been using "Salifert Aiptasia Exit" recently and just wanted to say, IMHO this stuff is CRAP. Salifert seem to make very good test kits, but when it comes to killing Aiptasia, I think this stuff feeds them rather than kills them. After no success, I tried moving a rock with 2 aiptasia out of the main tank and into a small bowl of seawater. Then, waited for the little buggers to rear their ugly heads and injected with Aiptasia exit. Tried again with 4 times the recommended dose (as a test) and they still live. Hmmm, maybe HFF swapped the contents with amino acids?! It seems the general concensus for the best way of removal is either Joes Juice or Kalk-paste. Might try a bitta Joes Juice tomorrow.
  9. Everyone appears to have had difference experiences with Zeovit. Some good, some moderate, some bad and some even mixed experiences (eg: crap at first then got better) My point is that everyone is bitching at each other about good/bad or otherwise. You are all basing this on your own opinions about the product. Just because another guy says it did wonders on his tank, who said it was the Zeovit? Perhaps they're paying him! So, all I want to stress is that no one should say "it works" or "its crap". If others are opposed to your view, then obviously they are getting different results. The magical zeovit debate will come back to haunt you all in another few months, guaranteed. Why? Because "is seems that" NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE. Not even the experts.
  10. Sump room was put on hold last weekend coz the wife wanted a fireplace in and its on hold this weekend coz Im going snowboarding However, here's an update as of tonight: Replaced the Iwaki MD-30RX with an MD-40RX tonight (next model up) This is rated at approximately 3,000 litres per hour at a 3 metre head height (rather than 2,200 litres per hour). The 3/4 inch Sea-swirl is rated at a max of 3,200 litres per hour although they recommend running near the maximum figure for optimal performance so Im right on the money. A single model up makes a massive change, I have been testing it tonight and you can simply hear the difference let alone see it! Last week I also picked up some egg-crate for reef-rack/lift the skimmer and more perspex for an extra baffle or two in the sump. Will show pic's of that once its complete. The temporary setup (shows the big blob of silicon on the 'trough' needed to stop the initial leak ) Water into sump (temporary piping!) Close-up of water dropping into sump, this will be fixed to the wall via a 3-way ball valve shortly: I added a loop pipe at the top of the return (upstairs) to go straight back down the marley overflow pipe. I ran the pump for about 30 minutes. Again no leaks. And, just to show a pic of how much better this whole setup will be, here is a before pic of the sump and wiring under the current tank - yuck!!! The marley pipe with blue tape on it to the right is the overflow for the new tank that goes under the house to the sump room. As you can see, I am very keen on getting the new setup complete and this mess sussed out! It currently makes water changes a nightmare!
  11. yeah, had to put the stupid face on coz it was a bloody stupid (but in hindsight funny) thing to do! hurt like hell though. very very close to passing out!
  12. Would everyone shut the hell up! Here's the simple facts for ANYTHING you do: - if it works on your tank, use it. - if it doesn't, read the instructions. - if you are following the instructions and it still doesnt work, dont use it. Now to something funny, whats the STUPIDEST thing you've done on your tank? For your amusement... Well, I was pulling piping off to make way for a larger Iwaki tonight and ended up in A&E 10 minutes later. Heres lesson #1 when removing piping: Do NOT yank the piping downwards when there's a glass fish tank near your head: or you will end up with a 4inch cut in your head with large bruise and look like this:
  13. Finally some valuable information posted - rather than just bitching at each other!

    Sump

you need to upload the pic onto the Internet somewhere, then specify the URL (http address) when posting, highlight the full URL then click the 'Img' button from the toolbar. A small recommendation:- once you've done your sump pic, look at it and think "do i need that baffle", "whats is it I am trying to achieve?!". I have seen too many pic's lately that are more complex than they need to be.

    Sump

Ira - it will work fine. Dont need to go too overboard on the baffles, so long as it reduces bubbles, allows heaters to remain submerged, accounts for any backflow and use a pump that by design, can run dry, you are covered.

sorry i missed ya pies, wanted to catch up but seemed like we were both too busy. maybe next time when the new tanks in and running strong! Steve, if you're ever up this end you know you're more than welcome to come zap some of my apstasia - as soon as i kill one another rears its ugly head... another job before the rock goes into the new tank!

    cyano

only the phosphate remover bags that you buy, 3 of them sitting in the sump for about the last month. there is no phosphate present currently (there was about 2 months ago). nitrates are present but very low (higher 2 months ago - nitratereductor must be helping here). there is nothing except what is listed above that would cause the cyano. have been doing 20% water changes weekly with ASW in the 3 weeks.

Am still battling this crap stuff. Whatever it is, it's probably a mixture of many things in my tank, specifically: - crap lighting (fluoro's) - overstocking (9 fish to 400 litres) - poor water flow (one 1060 on SCWD, couple of power heads, seaswirl on 1060 at low flow rate) Not too interested in completely irradicating it at the moment - just keeping it under control. When the new tank goes in, there will be: - better lighting (2 x 250W 10K MH's) - better stocking levels (9 fish to 1,000 litres) - better water flow (two 1060's on SCWD's with rotating flow nozzle outputs, sea-swirl on Iwaki at high flow rate, LR sitting on reef-rack for good bottom flow)
  19. Tested all plumbing tonight, hooked end of inlet piping straight back into overflow piping to create a loop without a tank. Water flowed perfectly, no leaks. Bilge pump piping is mint - definately recommend rather than 90 degree bends Only problem was black plastic temporary "trough" i loaned from NickS is leaking where he puttied it up  Gave it heaps of silicon and tested again. Photo's shortly...
  20. copper should soften the water up, ha ha haaa!
  21. What do you mean? it's exactly like the diagram I have (on page 2 and 3) just that the pump is in a different position. And it is only slightly different than my basic pic's from the first page. I still have the heaters and skimmer etc in the same place, they're just not in yet coz they're running the existing tank I opted to leave the centre brace in the sump for support as it's quite deep. The skimmer will sit on a reef rack in the left side of the sump. I also have a Korralin C3001 calcium reactor turning up next week sometime. Will probably go in or near the sump. Because I dont own it yet, Im not sure of it's exact dimensions or where I'll fit the CO2 bottle and reg. Plenty of room Im sure You can just make out the blue colour I painted on the back of the sump as well - I know its a bit hard to tell from these pics, but thoughts?
  22. here's the latest pic's, 3 foot sump all plumbed up. The hole in the tank at the left waiting for a 25mm tank valve to be fitted. This is, as mentioned above, incase of backflow or overfilling to go to a holding tank or drain: and a close up shot: Fingers crossed the black bilge pump piping will hold under pressure! and here's a shot of the pressure piping heading back upstairs:
  23. Sweet as, just checking as you did say "just starting out!" More details for everyones info would be cool as Brian has already said. Perhaps it would be good if we could have a "summary" of our tanks listed under our aliases on each post - saves this asking all the time!
  24. true that, the AP2601 is 2.6metres tall and rated to 25,000 litres!!! reef's new one is about a metre tall and rated to around 3,500 litres. I dont think he needs any bigger A good upgrade by the sounds of things!
