  3. Have a pair of Jacobfrebergi peacocks, bot parents are sharing the mouth brooding duties, is this normal???
  4. I have a similar tank and found the filter current to be quite strong, fixed it up by using strategically placed driftwood and artificial plants, could probably use valisineria to the same effect, m,y fighter likes to sit in his back eddy waiting for a feed (or to show off to his reflection =P
  5. Hi, have just set up a mudflat tank (will do a short article soon) and have 3 sand gobies I believe are Favonigobius sp. Would like a proper ID on them. where would I locate data on fin ray counts, or scale counts??? I will post pic tomorrow. it has 6-7 front dorsal rays. and 11 rear dorsal rays. most species I have seen described only have 7 - 9 rear dorsal rays They are cool fish (when they come out of sand). bright blue spots down sides. and red marbling

    help needed

looks to me like an abcess possibly due to physical injury, had a Severum get one a while ago, went away after a few weeks. (made sure the water quality was pristine as well) any sharp rocks in your tank???
  9. make sure your wood is properly treated as beach drift wood is going to be full of salt (and oil if your in Tga :tears: ) it will need to be boiled and soaked untill all the tannins stop leaching also av oid using garden center drift wood as it is sometimes roundup'd to prevent moss growth
  10. break out the smoker  it sad when the big guys die, my friend just lost her 8yr old Black ghost knife through a tiny gap where the filter enters the tank. keep getting mental images of it lying on the ground calling for mummy :tears:
  11. get a school of Oto's, brown algae is best way to make them fat and happy also try a young siamese algae eater, they become part of the Oto school

  14. my current ones will only breed in one specific cave under a log, i have tried heaps of others but they will only go there. the person I got them off had them for 2 years with out a spawn, then they found that cave and haven't stopped except when I took it out for 2 weeks.
  15. Rumour only, but I have heard of them in the Waikato near the Geothermal outflow. I also wouldn't be surprised to find them in the old fishfarm runoff creek in Ohauiti (just watch out for the Mega Eel =P she was hand tamed years ago, so she prob not thare any more
  16. There are nice Rams available in NZ, Electric blues show up sometimes. Just recieved a nice shipment myself, full of fat bright blue little girls, my overstock of boys is very pleased, and I seperated a pair on sunday, they are cleaning a site as we speak (couldn't resist, im kinda excited) you can also get Vieltail Rams regularly. beware of some rams though, got a shipment a while ago that was really yellow with virtually no blue on them =( ( the veiltails seem to be a bit lacking in blue as well.) most of the Apisto's would be a nice change too,
  17. Aquascope used to stock them, had a nice yellow and black strain underway. dunno what happened to them, they were a bit less productive than most live bearers, (if anyone near the old fish farm in ohauiti they were in the pond 4th row in 3rd and 4th ponds up) that was 4-5 years ago though.
  18. the Amazon Molly, Poecilia formosa. breeds with P. mexicana or P. lattipinna. http://www.bio.txstate.edu/~tbonner/txfishes/poecilia%20formosa.htm it is a strange world...
