  1. wow, nice! $500 seems pretty good for a species you barely see in new zealand, especially good coming from animates :gigl:
  2. wow, nice scarlet wrass, nice colours. and hurry up bangaiis, breed already so i can start stocking my tank!!! :rolfl:
  3. sounds good, keep us updated
  4. Yeah ive seen your tank, its coming along great! Very tidy and i love bangaiis haha, im considderring getting one for my tank. and Well the plan was to get better light and a wavemaker and then just remove top filter/light canopy because lights arent the best and filter doesnt do much but yeah, ive also thought about sumping it which could work id do it with an overflow that wont take up much tank space such as this one recommended by Ethan Russell on here, http://blog.aquanerd.com/wp-content/upl ... nout-2.jpg they are fairly pricey though but a sump on this tank would mean i can think about a skimmer and possibly a dosing pump to get some nice corals growing well! nanos are awesome, once i started i was surprised how much easier they are than what people make them out to be...well see how my tank goes once i add a few fish :slfg: :spop:
  5. yes, yes it is lol but thats fully under control, just need to get to them as soon as they appear rather than leaving them for another day haha and yep nsw all the way! i like it - but i have to be honest, i havent actually had experience with asw before so i cant compare but yeah anyway i havent had any problems with bad water quality from nsw or anything so so far so good:) for water changes i do around 10l every week and a half usually, so quite a lot considering my tanks only 35 litres but regular water changes are a must as im not using any other means of filtration apart from live rock and a bit of sponge in the top filter part. i want to buy some new lights but id be wanting good ones so my thinking is that if im gonna spend a bit on lights, i might aswel upgrade to a slightly larger tank around 100 litres maybe and i want a sump because then there is more room for media and a skimmer:P im short for money at the moment so might have to find a job to fund my pricey hobby hahaha damn! :rotf:
  6. okay just an update on the tank, everything running smooth and overall really happy with it  no fish yet but ill hopefully getting a pair of young clowns soon and possibly a torch...if im lucky !drool: anyway heres a few pics
  7. nah not yet, waiting for my NZHS membership code along with the latest newsletter to be mailed to me, Barbra said i should have it tomorrow so well see haha. i think its best i have a good look around the nzhs site and talk to a few more people before i decide on a final cage design. shouldnt be too long till i make a start !drool:
  8. Oh alright, will take that into account when i build my own. Thanks
  9. thanks for the photos! and tidy looking cage as wel. if managed to get a big bit of new perspects as i was planning on using it for the front but ive heard from a lot of people that mesh is the way to go but it seems a shame to not end up using it but anyway well see how it turns out. and like i said ill have a look on the nzhs website once the money and registration form goes through, ill get a few more cage ideas and learn a bit more and i should be all set lol
  10. Yep just did $23 and all sealed up in an envolope ready to be posted first thing tomorrow. Thanks guys for all your help! :bggrn:
  11. Dads old school lol. It does say $23 so i take it thats the price? Maybe the print out version has not been updated?
  12. sweet, thanks gocada. and Jamie, i printed out an application form for the NZHS as im going to post the form with a cheque so its all together rather than doing it the application form online then posting a cheque or whatever haha. they have specified a different price for a student membership on the paper form than on the online form??? im a bit confused. what price do i use haha the website one says $23 and the paper one says $35?? hmmmm :dno:
  13. okay thanks for that, i have made my design going by the doc cage requirement sheet but i may hold off and have a look at a few more peoples cages so i get a good idea of it all. and i was hoping for a small group of auckland greens or similar - to my understanding they are permit A's? thanks for your help Jamie, i think joining the NZHS is definatelly a good idea
  14. 90cm is fine for a juvi beardie but almost pointless in a way because you will soon be upgrading anyway. leo would probably be better unless you do end up getting a bigger enclosure for a beardie or are prepared to upgrade. leos are easy, no fuss reptiles but still a lot of fun to keep! i love mine haha
  15. alright sounds good:) do you have any pics of your enclosures? would love to see them. ill join the NZHS sometime in the next week or two.
  16. I think ive made a casual membership but i wasnt asked to pay anything so maybe not lol but i couldnt find much info on there so i might buy a membership and it will probably unlock more features. My dad and i are gonna start on the native enclosure next weekend so ill start up a thread documenting the build as i dont think theres much info on the net and it may inspire more people to get into natives
  17. Oh alright, does he have some now? Ill probly see him at school tomorrow so ill ask him then
  18. Sorry i think i have been missunderstood about sourcing the geckos, i am just looking for anyone with any that i may be able have when i do get my permit haha im well aware of it being illegal without a permit so would never get any without haha. Ive decided to get a permit and build an enclosure anyway so hopefully i can find some
  19. i gave the local doc office a call and the guy was in a meeting so i left a message and he will call me back but the receptionist said hes quite easygoing about it and knows everything there is to know so i hope all goes well haha. and yep there will be lots of pictures to follow if it all works out :happy2:
  20. hi guys, anyone have any native geckos spare? thinking about doing a native enclosure and have thoroughly read up about them so im all set. i thought theres no point moving foward with this untill i know if there is anyone that actually have some that they dont mind parting with. i havent applied for a permit yet but yeah if i can track down some i will! hoping for a green variety so most likely auckland greens, northlands or wellingtons. ive heard that doc may give me a list of names but i thought ill give it a shot on here first haha. can collect anywhere 3 hours out of tauranga at most probably. PM me if you have any info that could help me! 8) thanks heaps, reuben
  21. have you thought about getting a few peppermint shrimps? they are also quite good at getting rid of aiptasia. you will have more success keeping these alive than a cbb as they are quite hardy. copperbands even if they are eating in shops need to be fed a variety of foods with a high nutritional value to keep them happy long-term. anyway, good luck and any updates?
  22. what about a video of him opening the jar with a prawn in it, that you were telling MF4L and i about??? haha
