  1. My setup is identical to kiwiplymouths' one, but without the 3 way regulator as I only have 1 tank that needs CO². Two/Three way regulators can be purchased as in-line addons for later if I need though. You can read my thread for more info: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45446 I've had everything up and running now for about a week, and my plants pearl all day every day like there's no tomorrow.
  2. Nope - no difference at all. After coming out of the shower I was drying myself off in front of the tank  and noticed one of the males giving the female death. When I went closer to investigate I saw them rubbing their bodies on each other and then they eventually stopped atop a leaf, at which point about 8 or so eggs dropped out of her. Breeding them is not that hard at all. All I did was provide pristine water quality, and they did what came naturally to them
  3. Ok got some shrimp finally. Have been feeding the puffers all morning! These fish will NOT touch any other food - no liquid fry food, no frozen daphnia. Maybe the food is simply too large for them. The baby Brine shrimp are about the size of their eye. Bloody picky eaters
  4. Naw don't worry about it for now, I've set up a similar hatchery to the one you've recommended. Am using those readymade brine shrimp + salt packets so I should have some shrimp by this time tomorrow.
  5. My brine shrimp hatchery ain't workin - have been trying for 48 hours to hatch some. Can anyone spare some brine shrimp or microworms to feed the fish?
  6. This is why it's always good to quarantine new arrivals, regardless of where they came from.
  7. I'd buy Glo T5HO units. I picked two twin bulb (39x2, each) for cheap on trademe.
  8. Some photos of the now free swimming baby puffers They look just like adult puffers, only smaller. About 2mm in size.
  9. http://www.filefront.com/4222934/SoundM ... 2.01.5150/ This is the exact driver you need. Close all the programs you're running so they don't interfere with the installation of the driver, install the driver, reboot your computer, and you SHOULD have sound.
  10. If that doesn't work, try to download + run this (no installation required) http://www.filehippo.com/download_cpuz/ (download button is the green button on the far right of the screen) And then run it, click on the "Mainboard" tab, and let us know what it says under "Manufacturer" and "Model". This will help us recommend the exact driver for your system rather than trying to play guesswork with which hardware you've got.
  11. I use a quarantine (AR380) tank before introducing anything into my main tank which has my puffers. Want to be really careful with them - apparently its a real pain dealing with sick scale-less fish. I don't run the tank always, but I can start it up in a heartbeat if I need to - just pull some ceramic noodles out of my canister filter and chuck them in the AR380's trickle filter, then drain water out of the main tank into the AR380 tank. It's bare bottom and has a piece of indian fern and piece of java moss.
  12. Down to 5 now 2 of the eggs stuck together and started growing fungus, so I disposed of them immediately.
  13. Sweet Another update - the 3 hatched eggs are doing fine, and the 4 that didn't hatch are getting red spots on them just like the 3 that hatched had just before they hatched Looks like they might all end up hatching after all.
  14. Pressurised CO² doesn't need to be filled up every week, more like every 6-9 months, depending on size of CO² cylinder. I know a guy with a 400L heavily planted tank + 3.5kg bottle just refilled his after 8 months, and it cost was $13. The initial investment is rather sizey, but DIY aint got nothin' on pressurised systems, I can safely say this after trying to faff about for half a year trying to get my DIY running good and then finally giving in and going pressurised.
  15. Update: Fry are now somewhat free swimming. As I change their water, if I disturb the water even a little, they swim up and down and finally settle on the surface of the breeding trap. I suppose they're still too young to keep swimming
  16. Some baking soda to 'regulate' so it lasts longer? Alternatively look at going pressurised. I just went pressurised 3 days ago, and the total cost was $347 including 3.5KG CO² bottle which I bought from a local place (not rented)
  17. There is P44, I've seen it at Mt Roskill HFF. Idk how accurate it'd be though.

    Nano tank

You'd need to upgrade the lights before you'd be able to keep any real corals. As far as skimming goes, external hang on back skimmers are available, and will require extensive modification of the hood which will probably result in having to butcher the built in filter system. It's not worth the hassle - this is the conclusion I came to.
  19. Long time since joint, but now active eh? Sounds about right :bounce: Welcome to the forum
  20. Yes, baby brine shrimp. I've got everything ready to start hatching brine shrimp when I need to 8)
  21. 3 have hatched: 4 Are still sitting there looking clear - looks like they might not hatch:
  22. My dwarf puffers just bred - saw them lay eggs in fact. Have managed to extract 6 eggs safely. They are sitting in a breeding trap. Time will tell how many will survive.
