  1. What sort of "concrete" are you using? you'll need more of a plastering mix. Try a mortar with maybe some extra cement, plastercising additive or bonding agent which is a bit like PVA. Id just try some extra cement first.
  2. Most have aquarium safe written on them now so pick one of those to be safe. The clear RTV from Sika is one and Selleys Clear glass is another that i saw yesterday at Bunnings.
  3. nah havnt tried Smidey yet. Ill PM him tonight if he doesnt see this first. Ta.

Anyone bringing in NLS cichlid formula at the moment. I normally get some off Trademe or Hollywood worst case. If not what other quality feed are we feeding Mbuna/ Haps at the moment? Cheers.

    yes. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/t ... s_life.php
  6. Haven't been out since Easter unfortunately. And i probably wont get out till Around the end of the year if im lucky. I play footy every weekend and we have a new baby due in a couple of weeks.
  7. At this time of year id say it would be the food making the water green.
  8. Im been in to tramping and hunting since i was a young falla- hunting more so as i got older and wanted the challenge. Hunt mostly Sika in the Kaimaniwas and Kawekas. Sometimes hunt with a video camera only. Although not so often these days with a young family.
  9. I do a gravel vac about every 6 weeks or so to clean out some muck. I have to top up weekly though as i loose at least 10-15% with evaporation or what the plants take up.
  10. I havnt had any problem with root rot yet. My plants are in the clay ball media as well if that makes a difference.
  11. yeah. I just intercepted the little aqua one power head and extended it up. then it runs slightly down hill and drains out hte other end back to the tank and through the filter.
  12. I have this from March this year. Now only have the Lemon Grass, Lucky bamboo and some chives
  13. I have a mini indoor setup been running for the last couple of years. Will post picks later. Have cut back on the herbs now though as ive turned the lights off. Only have some lucky bamboo and some chives. IM just running off a 30l Aqua one tank but bypass the filter and extend the pump head up to the grow bed then return pipes back through the filter. Really simple and really cheap after a bit of mucking around. Its not the best setup but i was keen to do something as cheap as possible, reducing water changes and getting something in return from a tank. Wasn't interested in powering a whole garden. If i was to plant more herbs out i would have to get the lights going again.
  14. Could you just test for chlorine? Pretty that's in those 30 seconds products.
  15. Yep. it would be a good idea to have a floor drain or waste pipe coming out of the wall for water changes and also a tap so you can top your tanks up direct. no hoses.
  16. needs some bracing. Either diagonal or sheet on the back and sides.
  17. Yep. Rotary tools. You get what you pay for. I have a cheap Ozito one just because it came with a whole set of attachments. Its gutless and nothing on a Dremel or any decent one
  18. Yeah I guess. It works for me though and I don't get any mini cycles or the like. I guess it just a brief time and only 20L (in my case) of tap water before the tank water is running through the filter again.
  19. I Struggle to prime mine due to extra length of piping I have so I use the garden hose to prime it. Once I have given it a clean and hooked all the hoses back up I just poke the hose up one of my outlets until it comes out one of the inlets then turn it the pump on.
  20. I change 20- 25% (100L) per week and my recipe is 1 teaspoon of each baking soda, epsom salts and rock salt per 20L. So every week i add 5 teaspoons with my water change. I have 20L marks on my tank glass so i know how much im changing out. That keeps me on a rock solid Kh and Gh of 11. I dont often test the Ph as it always the same. I used to check every water change now its more like every 6 weeks but always good. The only time i got small fluctuations was initially when i was fine tuning my recipe. I worked it out in a 10L bucket of my tap water adding a measure of each until i had the hardness where i wanted it. Then i had to fine tune it once it was in the tank with the limestone etc. I'd imagine fluctuation would happen if you were not replacing what you were taking out or just not being accurate enough. My tank is not planted, has no drift wood but has a heap of limestone which could also help.
  21. The use of limestone works to certain degree and i have a tank full of it but i use home made buffers as well. My Ph is rock solid and i cant see why it wouldnt be as long as you keep adding them with your water changes. I use a combo of baking soda, epsom salts and rock salt per 20l of water change. theres some good articles here http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c ... y_list.php
  22. Is it a new set up? You can get a bit a film initially until you do a couple of water changes and your tank's bio system reaches an equilibrium and settles down.
  23. Limestone will only be good for your water perams. Do you research on Cichlid Forums on your specific varieties but Africans are pretty hardy as far as PH levels go, the main thing is to keep them constant. I use a solution of Epsom salts, baking soda and rock salt to keep my PH a constant 8 and KH and Gh at 11.
  24. I found the burgers a really good size, however really bland and lacking in flavour.
  25. If you struggle to source poly another option, and one that would fit your tank well, is a closed cell foam sleeping mat from the warehouse or the like.
