  9. Hey, check this out, http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/fish/fish/tropical-fish/auction-474027610.htm
  10. thanks for trying to help me twinkles, I have a CF1200 filter for the tank, 2 air stones, 2 peices of driftwood and just normal aqurium stones, its got java fern and ambula plants and a few other low light plants. Those are the only items in the tank. The tank has roughly 40 adult fancy guppies, 8 baby BN (1 -3cm ea) and 2 harlequen rasboras. All the guppie babys have no troubles, never see them dead or look like they are dying, the BN also are going strong and have no signs of fin rot or dying. I did a test the day before putting in the new lot of guppies and ammonia, nitrate and nitrite were all 0, ph of the top of my head was around 6. The temp in the water is about 25.2 atm and is normally never lower than 25 or higher than 26. This tank has been setup since january, originally had 1 breeding pair of BN, 6 neons and 6 rasboras, never had any issues, no deaths, they servived the whole tanks cycle and never had any issues untill 3 weeks ago when i did the swap. My 300L tank down stairs have had the guppies in it for the past 4-5 weeks , the reason i had to swap them round was because i was getting some cichlids and they needed the bigger tank. So 2 days before my chichlids came the heater issue took place in the big tank with the guppies and since then all my fish have just gone down hill. So in my cycled tank upstairs i just keep loosing adult guppies.
  11. Okay, so i got some more guppies on friday, they been in the same tank with the 3-5 surviving guppies. All was okay untill today and yesterday, ive lost about 6-10 . Its a 3ft tank, 160L with about 40 Guppies and some tiny baby BN. should i remove all the water and start from scratch with water from my other tank? can the water thats in the tank now be contaminated? are these fish dying jsut due to shock from a new enviroment? if these guys die im probably going to give up

  13. Hey Guys, i got given some nice adult pairs of angels on thursday, they are currently in my large 300L'ish tank with my cichlids. Yesterday one of the pairs laid eggs down one of the filter down pipes. Woot Woot - very excited. Now i need some on advice on what to do. Do i leave them were they are and let natural process take place? Do i get another tank for them? There is currently 45 cichlids - 2-5cm in size each in the tank, 2 BN plecs, 1 5cm Red spot plec and 6 adult angels. Eggs have now been there for 24 hours. all suggestions would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, dan
  14. Hey all, you may have read the artical of the kid's sentencing, what a joke - http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10804945 our justice system is so corrupt. Zuri, i now have two tanks set up, one guppy set up and one cichlid set up, all was going well till i did a noob mistake with the guppys and they all died churr for the support, thanks for all the welcoms.
  15. Hey everyone, soo ive been on the forum now for the last few months, fish keeping is fully brand new to me. Think i should let you all know why i wanted to start keeping/breeding fish. First of all my name is Dan, i live in auckland and im an IT Engineer. At the start of the year, January 7th, me and 2 mates were on our way home from town heading to east auckland were we all lived, each in our own cars. I was the front car, my friend Mop was in the middle and my other mate was at the back. We were about 2 minutes from home, when we came of the motorway up to a intersection where it goes from 80km/h to 50km/h we had a green light. I went though the intersection without any issue, my mate how ever was t-boned by a stolen subaru doing 150+ km/h though a red light witch was racing another car. Unfortunatly this stolen car hit my best friend square on the drivers door and killed him instantly. The story is more in depth but i can explain it another day if you want hear it. So what im trying to get at is , this year i have watched my best mate die in my arms, ive allways loved fishing and swimming and everything to do with water. So why not combine my favorite activities with creating new life. Breeding these guppies and watching all the fish swim around and grow from small to big is one of the only things that has brought a smile to my face in the last few months. Just want to explain my story, i apreciate the help ive had in setting up my 2 tanks , cheers to everyone! Thanks for welcoming me.
  16. i had 3 different strains from two different breeders, had them in the same tank, im only new to this, im only breeding for fun and to learn.
  17. guess it was the 2 water changes, rapid heat change and then the tank change. oh well i learnt a lesson. lost my guppys i just spent heaps of $$ on getting perfect breeders. cheers for all the answers.
  18. what happened is, i have 2 tanks a 300L is downstairs a 200L is upstairs i had 50 guppies in my 300 L, the heater went on a spaz, i did two water changes ...story is on prev page, my upstairs tank is my original tank, has been fully cycled for 6 months, had some neons and bristle noses in it with my siamese fighter, i had all my chichlids coming so i had to put them in the 300L and the guppies into the 200L and got rid of all the fish that were all ready in the 200L. at the time of the swap, only about 5 had died, i could only believe it was because of the heater issue, i had no idea i was about to loose 40 of my guppies i guess ive just screwed up bigtime..
