  1. It's been light that affects it for me. Mid lighting, little pink, high lighting and the first few leaves on the top are pink-red.
  2. I have a Nikon D7000, using a 105mm 2.8 Nikon macro
  3. The reason why I use f11 is that there are DoF issues - I can't seem to get everything on the fish in focus - although tonight I used my external flash going into the tank which really helped to add to the lighting, meaning I could stick to low ISOs. I wouldn't usually go under f8 for macro?
  4. What's your lighting situation (if you're happy to give out that info)? Any external flashes or studio lights? My camera doesn't handle such high ISOs quite so well - but even on 6400 I couldn't go above 1/100". But then again I'm on f11, are you using a telephoto rather than a macro? I don't know how I'd get so close on a macro without DOF issues on a f3.5 :nilly: Tripod or monopod? (I'm just going to steal all your photography techniques, if that's OK )
  5. I've put a small piece in Dad's 450L tank which smells like sulpher, no issues so far. No rotting, I'm hoping soaking it in his tank for a while will get rid of the smell so I can steal it back 'cause it's a nice piece

    ID PLEASE

Is the person who got it on the forum? (38 seconds before it ends and you start bidding ) It still looks like a peppermint to me.
  7. Damn, that's quite different from the last photos. Looking awesome

I was trying to use thread on it to cover it in moss, but it's his little home (when he's insistent on a home, he will get it - he spent a couple of days trying to swim up the filter - through the wrong way ). I'd rather wait than risk damage though 'cos I'm not a particularly delicate person. I'll try that method though next time, thanks Sorry, :smot:
  9. No, definitely don't forget the dissection - that's the best part
  10. I'd say they're just semi-aggressive fish. Ours was bought in a group of 5, then survived a massive temperature drop (the lone survivor) - but during that was with some BNs, tetras, discus (who didn't survive either :tears:) etc so was socialized. I think they're just grumpy with bottom dwellers, territorial things.
  11. When I first saw it I thought parasite - I think euth is probably the best option in his case
  12. And be careful with tank mates  Dad's one is a huge bully, we can't have bottom dwellers any more because of him. Little ****

 My male BN won't let go of wood even when it's out of water. I can spend about 20 minutes trying to get him off a piece, I'm so scared I'll find him outside with the old driftwood pieces one day.
  14. Any bloat, raised scales etc? Like F15hguy said, it'll be easier to help when we know numbers
  15. From what I can tell, most flying fox fish sold here are actually Siamese algae eaters - which I'm afraid should probably have 100+ litres because they get so big. Not sure if he's a real flying fox fish otherwise, sorry.
  16. I'd love to give it a go some day, just need the $$$ and space
  17. How does this sound - 90L 2x veiltail blue ram (pair) 3x honey gouramis (2 female, one male) 5-7x threadfin rainbow fish 5x kuhli loaches 3-5x otos I've read AqAdvisor is pretty accurate, I'll do 2x 15% water changes each week. Temp at 27 degrees. 14L - 3x Aphyosemion striatum or A Nothobranchius species (suggestions welcome) Do we get Aphyosemion australe and would those be compatible? 18L - 1x Siamese fighter 18L - backup 14L - ???
  18. Here's a list of fish that I'm interested in (for the 90L) - still not sure whether the pristella tetras are going into that tank or not. - Kuhli loaches (preferable) - Golden Pencilfish - Scarlet Badis - Veiltail Blue Ram - Licorice Gourami - Glowlight Danios - Kribensis Kuhlis being my bottom dwellers, I want 2-4 top colourful/interesting dweller species. Tank is running two HOB filters - an Aquaclear 150 and a Second Nature whisper power filter (2?) which is missing a filter piece if anyone has any lying around Pictures! 90L 31L (looks better in real life, sword is looking unhappy for some reason) I accidentally dug up some gravel which is why it's so dusty, needs a couple more water changes to get back to normal. Anubias came with some kind of algae on it which I can't seem to remove. I finally got my new macro lens, sorry you'll have to put up with test photos from it. Bladder snail that seemed to hitch a ride on one of my plants One of the very shy black neon tetras, whom I can hardly get photos of. Kaiden And Kaiden's "tumour" (just for future reference) Edit: Oh, and have decided to make one 14L for brine shrimp, maybe? So then I just have one 14L and one 18L to stock.
  19. Ah, that sucks I had trouble adopting out my boys - someone ended up fostering one of them and finding him a home so that I wouldn't have to post on TM (with the lack of classifieds for rodents).
  20. Try the adoptions section on www.ratclub.org/forum - NZRR (the rat rescue) could help you out too if it's an emergency.
  21. Nice tank! Plant growth looks super healthy and tidy!
  22. Gonna post pics tomorrow - have had the 90L set up for a week now, and now have to HOB filters running on it (the aqua clear just didn't seem to be enough, and I'm hoping to stock it heavily-ish). MANY questions - I have some dragons tongue lying around in the tank. Because it's not a true aquatic (although it's got a couple of roots), what the hell should I do with it? 90L - Only one filter's been going for a week, the other was set up today. Is it big enough that I can slowly transfer my golden x-ray tetras to it without any major ammonia spikes? I'm at home daily to do water changes if need-be. My stocking plans are - Kuhli loaches (a. is the tank big enough, b. should they be ok on the rough rocks) Rainbow fish of some sort? I'd be interested in a few different kinds of mid-top dwellers. My tetras may go in there or they'll go into my 70L, but I'd really like to go for some colour. (Not a gourami fan, btw) I've scored myself some small tanks - 2x 18L and 2x 14L. One 18L will be set up as a backup/QT tank, the other with a betta. 14L - is there any kind of "nano" fish that would do OK? Otherwise I'll set one up as backup and leave the other one/keep it for snails. I think bumblebee gobies might need more space, are there any kind of killifish that could be in there as a permanent setup? The 2nd 18L is in case my DPF layout goes pear shaped, so I want to leave that free, so it's just stocking the 2 14L tanks. :nilly: I can grow high tech plants just fine, but my java fern isn't growing (not dying, but not thriving), my anubias is surviving and my christmass & riccia moss won't take off. I just really want my moss

    LED Lights

Could you get some strips from Stealth LED lighting? If you do get some LEDs, tell us how it turns out - I've got a BP 70L which I'd like to get some stronger lighting for.
  24. Damn, nice photos  I wish my camera dealt with noise like that.
