  1. Must have missed that... where is it ...? ...
  2. Hi Ira, Tip the whole lot into a sieve, or a fine mesh bag (big fish net might do)... then place a strong light over the top of the medium. This will drive the worms through the medium and through the mesh into your new container. If you need to drive the worms to the surface, then place the container on a warm surface. This will drive them up. HTH

    Hi from Sydney!

Hi there Yew, Great to have you visit. Only just over three hundred of us here... about 1200 or so behind you. Seems quite a few are changing boards these days. Looks like you have some nice fish and hope you get time to tell us more about them. Hey Caryl, There's an option at the head of the ezboard that lets you view only new post, or all of them. You might have the wrong flag ticked, or it could be a prob in your profile. Also if you 'log off' it will forget your visit and you 'will' have to log in all the time, which is the same with all forums

Hi there Fallen, welcome to the NZFR. There's a couple of threads on Seahorses somewhere on here which are quite interesting. Was gonna set up myself with some, but got diverted somewhat

    Wow!

Hey there Nooboon, Great to have you join us. It's amazing the amount of people who join and say they didn't know this forum existed, cos we sure make enough noise here to let everyone in NZ know about us... (all good shouting BTW he he) Lots of members here into the Cats and bottom dwellers, plus the plant scene, 'and' the high tech stuff to go with it, so you are in good company.

    Hello

Welcome Lurch, glad you found us, and hope you find lots of interest here. Good one Ira
  10. Hi Bikegirl, As mentioned, your fish could be bloated. It's normal for most catfish to do hasty rushes to the surface. If possible separate the fish and feed on live food (white worm, bloodworm or something) Finely chopped garden worm might work. (not manure worms) just the plain thin red ones. This acts as a slight laxative and might sort it out. Avoid too much flake food for a while.
  11. My monitor is 17", and my setting is 1024x768 32 bit.. and I am far from lazy, but I think anyone posting pics should keep them within a reasonable size, not only for the convenience of all viewers, but to prevent slowing the site down... and before you comment, I am running a Pen3 700mhz with 300meg mem and a 64gforce graphics card. (The old Pen died) I see little point in posting a pic that you can only see half of at any given time ... and it's even worse having to scroll across to read the text... even on a 17". The avatar size is restricted to size due to strain on the site, so the same should apply to pics. (No offence meant)
  12. Hi Fallen, Great to have you join the forum. So where have you been all this time, you've been missing all the fun Back to your project Few links here that might help you, plus a Glass Thickness Calc. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=82 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=83 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=115 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=974 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=776 If you need more details, post here or email me.
  13. Wish you guys would reduce the pic size to save having to scroll across the screen

Pulled this off the net.. it might help.
  15. There's a liquid fry food you can buy from your local tropical fish supplier. There is one type for livebearers (Guppies, Swordtails, Mollies, Platies and such) and another type for egglayers. Shake the tube well, then mix a couple of drops in tank water and feed to the fish.. they love it. (because it may come out in blobs) Finely powdered flake food will do the trick as well (for the livebearers)
  16. Something not mentioned above is that the female can rush around during giving birth, and consume (eat) the fry as fast as she is dropping them, (even in a breeding trap) so your lack of numbers could be due to this. BTW: As the guppies get older they will drop larger numbers.
  17. Recieved some mail from a guy about a tank, and it turns out he has a great site on Cichlids. There's even plans for building a 1000 gallon tank, plus video clips of fish spawning. Well worth a visit. ... But do come back won't you www.thecichlidgallery.com Happy Days Bill (Pegasus NZ)
  18. Hi Mike, welcome to the NZFR. My son is into collecting native fish, but unfortunately we don't get together to talk much, but here are a few links you might want to browse over. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=221 http://www.niwa.cri.nz/rc/freshwater/fi ... inanga.htm http://www.niwa.cri.nz/rc/freshwater/fi ... inanga.htm Have a look at: http://www.nzfreshwater.org/ for good info on NZ native fish. It includes captive maintenance info at: http://www.nzfreshwater.org/index_aquaria.html There is also a mailing list based at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nzfreshwater Happy Days. Bill (Pegasus)
  19. Hey there Bikegirl, So glad you found a home for the big fella, and they will be sure to treat him right. If you click on the twin fish (FNZAS.ORG) at the head of the page and then on Clubs, you will find the details and contacts for the South Auckland Club, plus a couple of email addresses... HTH
  20. Hi Kerry, Great project I couldn't see the last pic.. don't know if it's me alone, but it looks great.. the ones I saw that is :)

Hi Goldie, Great to see you back. I know it's a hassle, but if you pull the small ones out and rehouse them they will in most cases catch up in size to the others..
  22. Hey Bikegirl... Great stuff, and hopefully Sushi will find another home along with some mates to play with You can always talk bikes in the off topic area.. (2 hot 2 handle)... there's a few bike lovers here
  23. That's the right idea... A few at a time till you get the tank established. BTW... I'm an old 'biker' from way back (Pomme Bikes) Vincent HRD 1000cc.. BSA Gold Flash.. BSA.. 500 Shooting Star... 700 Enfield Connie.. two Triumph Bonnies.. (one a cafe racer yeeehhaaa) plus a 200cc Triumph Tiger Cub race tuned to 115mph... and heaps more.. (Could talk bikes all night)... Geez... they'd be worth a mint over here.... The good old days Now about this shark.... Ever thought of the Zoo... they may be looking for one for their marine section
  24. Hi Bikiegirl, glad you made it I knew Caryl would have all the info on the clubs, and it seems you already have some of the info you needed. WOW... Some nice sized tanks there, and the choices of fish are enormous, though you may need some hardy ones for the two three footers if they are going in the kids room. You could set one up as a 'fun' tank with lots of 'ornamental' stuff (waterwheels... divers.. castles..caves.. etc for the kids) .. and one a bit more towards the serious side to learn them a bit about the hobby, and perhaps about the breeding of some species. Now the 8 foot... Well that would look just great in my front room instead of the existing tanks.. :) Fun times ahead.
  25. Hi Hop2it, Highly unlikely that 'algae' killed your fish, unless it was dead decaying algae. More likely the stuff you put in to get rid of it did the damage JMO. Yep... Fee is still going at Tropical Blues (great place to shop) Careful with those water changes.... don't 'overdo' it he he.
