  1. Thank you, on doing some research have decided against one as like stated they are costly when I can get a good external for a lot cheaper. I gave my eheim ecco to hubby for his oscars tank as the internal filter was not keeping up..surprise surprise. My turn for a new one....... thank youfor your comments everyone.
  2. I would appreciate some info from anyone who has used one or had some experience with thermo filters. How easy are the heating elements to change should something go wrong..ie they stop heating. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  3. From experienced cichlid owners. I would like to set up with malawi cichlids in my 4ft tank. At the moment there are only 10 fish left as it has crashed badly over the last few weeks and treatments, water changes etc have not stopped the downward spiral. When all have passed on we are going to clean it out and set it up for malawai but I would like some advise on which fish are the best to live together and how many of each is ideal. Also to anyone from Christchurch in your opinion and experience which particular store is the most knowledgeable when it comes to cichlids, in particular malawai. Thank you
  4. Hello and thanks for your replys, I'm not sure what the fish died from, but I did treat the tank for algae and maybe that had some thing to do with it. The Jack is about 12-15cm. I will probably put some more rainbows in I do like them I had a black ghost but he passed on before we put the Jack in there(I've posted in fishroom forum and I explained why he is in my tank) What else will live with Jack? I'm going to have a good tidy up in the tank and do a couple of slightly larger than normal water changes over the next few weeks. Then I will be looking to buy some more fish and plants. Does Fee still sell fish? I noticed her list of fish from earlier in the year.
  5. Can anyone give me some helpfull ideas?? I have a 4ft tank, it is externally filtered with an eheim eccho. It's inhabitants at the moment are 6 red splendid rainbows, 2 flying fox, 1 bristlenose plec, 2 clown loaches and a Jack dempsey(which belongs to Frank(who posted his setup procedure on this site)). The Jack didn't get on with his other cichlids, so he ended up in my tank. He hasn't bothered my fish apart from eating my poor ottocinclus Any way, I want to re-plant and re-stock...any ideas will be appreciated, some good plants that grow well and fast and some more fish that will co-habit my tank... please suggest anything
  6. Hello, I am thinking it is about time I re stocked my 4ft tropical tank. At the moment it looks a bit sad It has in in 2 clown loaches about 4 & 6inches, 2 flying fox 3inches, Frank's Jack dempsey and 6 red splendid rainbows. The rest of my rainbows have been slowly passing on to fish heaven  . Any suggestions on what to re stock it with? Also I want to grow more plants, any good ideas on good easy to grow hardy plants? Thank you for any ideas that anyone may have. This tank has been operational for about 4 years and is externally filtered with an eheim echo.
