  1. Hi Steve, According to the members list we have 17 members from the States, plus 4 from Canada, plus others from Bombay and Turkey, but most are pretty inactive unfortunately. We need a mailing service that will remind them we are still here :) No, but it is famous for its chickens
  2. We were Mark, this is 'your' thread, but you'll have to forgive our Goldie as she gets a bit confused at times and can't remember what forum she is on he he. LOL
  3. According to this, it 'really' is dangerous. Fish TB http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/man ... ishTB.html
  4. Hi there Sue, Warmest of welcomes Nice to see another member from north of the bridge You found the right place, that's for sure, and we are all here to help with any probs you might have. What other fish do you have ?
  5. Well, I have done quite a bit of reading on this subject and can find nothing 'conclusive' about spine deformities being a sign of TB, apart from a reference to Skeletal deformaty, which could mean bumps or lumps, or anything. References say that TB is caused by a Myrobacterum, like these. ·Myobacterium piscium ·Myobacterium platypoecilis ·Myobacterium anabanti ·Myobacterium fortuitum ·Myobacterium salmoniphilum ·Myobacterium marinum And the symptoms can include: ·Loss of appetite ·Progressive thinness ·Sluggish movement ·Folded fins ·Eye protrusion ·Dark coloration and granular appearance of the cornea (this is the first sign in Angelfish). ·Skeletal deformity ·Hanging at the surface ·Skin defects, including blood spots and open wounds that may ulcerate ·Black spots, or overall dark coloration (in Cichlids particularly). ·Fin rot, characterised by the outer rays falling out. ·Scales loosening and falling out ·General swelling and scale protrusion (as in Dropsy) Just like White Spot, there are several reasons that can cause it, and I certainly know that constantly breeding and interbreeding from the same family of guppies 'does' produce bent spines, just as many of the symptoms above could be something entirely different.

    CO2 levels

Something is up the pole with your link John. All we get is Netscape advertising.
  7. As you were unable to diagnose the problem with the fish, it might be a good idea to leave the tank bare for a while... say a week or more, as your fish could have contracted an internal parasite that might 'possibly' be still lurking in the tank. Most things of this nature will die off if they don't have a host (fish).. so it might just be something to consider before you buy another one.
  8. Hey Mark... Love the avatar... cute little guy Thanks for the visit to my site, and hopefully you found some interest. Sounds like you're gonna be busy for a while. One step at a time... and just think, one day you will be able to sit back and enjoy all the efforts. (the tanks usually breed faster than the babies he he )
  9. Hi Lilspartan, In your first post you say... But in your last post you say... Either way, if he is spending long periods on the surface then you could have a water problem. You say you have an air stone running, so it won't be the lack of disolved oxygen, but it could be a build up of ammonia. When did you do a partial water change last, and how much did you change if you did ..? What does his gills look like... Are they inflamed at all.. red looking..?
  10. Hi Mark, Welcome to the forum... lots of Discus lovers here so you should get a few tips and ideas. Good to get the family started young. My three year old grandson can just about name all my fish..... in Latin Now about these tanks you have glass for. We need ALL the details, and a few pics once you get them set up he he.
  11. Hi Fiona, Fantastic project you have there, and I'm sure 'someone' will be keen to have their fish filmed. Would be nice if you could get some footage of fish 'actually' spawning, as well as a general overview. Some fish give birth to live young... others lay eggs on plants or on rocks or in caves, while others collect the eggs and incubate them in their mouths (mouthbrooders), then spit all the babies out once they are hatched, while others build nests on the surface which they guard with ferocity... so there is much more scope, if you can find the right setup, at the right time Great to see you here, and the best of luck with your project.
  12. HI Lilspartan, More guppy lovers... great stuff, and welcome to the NZ Fishroom.. (where is Greensbro NC..?) Sounds like Nashville he he. Guppys... The males do tend to look a bit crazy at times with there rushing around the tank (usually after the females) but I think in your case it is that the poor fella only knows you and no other mates, so he is happy to see you and is showing his excitement. Suggest you get him a couple of good looking ladies to keep him happy and he may even get 'more' excited :) Great to have you here. Do you have any other fish...?
  13. You seem to have this fish and tank thing pretty well sussed Matt... Great pics, nice healthy looking fish (love the ram) plus some choice plants. Good one.
  14. Welcome Matt, Great to see a few more North Island members :) Hope you enjoy your visits.

    Cloudy Water

Hi Daemon, Welcome to the forum. You might also want to check that you have nothing slowly decomposing or desolving in the tank like rocks, gravel, or ornaments. If any are lime or alkaline based they could fog your water. Test the gravel by adding some vinegar to a small amount in a container. If it fizzles it will give probs. Test other items after removing them.

    Introduction

Welcome to the fishroom Tony. Looks like you have a decent sized tank there and some nice fish. As you say, there's lotsa interesting messages here, so you'll find heaps to keep you up late at night he he. Have you spawned any of your fish at all..?
  17. There's not a great deal you can do with 20ltr tanks, apart from short term fry holders. You will still need to heat and filter 8 tanks, so why not consider 4.. 24x12x15 which will allow you a bit of latitude.
  18. Good one Bikiegirl, Looks like you'll be in the market for some extra tanks shortly he he. They say the temperature alters the amount of female to male ratio (don't really know for sure) but it is often mentioned on the Guppy sites. Check at guppiesRus, or guppy world, plus there are a few good sites in the Technical section under "Useful Links"
  19. I didn't read either article, but just spotted them on my searching and thought of your posts. Can't help with the translation, but I understood the second article was a direct translation into Arabic from English... apart for the pics, which is why I referred the link to it.
  20. Sorry, didn't know they had a club Was reading this: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/sal ... mming.html about skimmers, which led me to this.. http://www.ffil.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7926 The first link is the article, the second one is the drawing of the skimmer in nice detail, which is all in English, but the text is in Arabic, so you will need to scroll down from the 'left' in order to see the drawings. Might be a cheap way out, not sure
  21. He he... I'm not in a position to dispute this, and will take your word for it. The mention of 'parasite' relates to a question in the article, and the author doesn't actually say that it 'is' a parasite, and I wonder why these guys never picked up on that. (Seems like this bit might have been sent in by a reader as a query) Very interesting anyway, as these little guys seem to worry quite a few aquarists.
  22. You guys should get together and start a little club going. I'm sure you'd find quite a few people interested in sharing their ideas.
  23. There's lots of info on these guys here: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/man ... Worms.html
  24. Quite right Caryl... forgot to mention that. I like the idea that she (or he) makes a skin that can be cut and applied anywhere

    C02?

The obect is to keep the CO2 in the water as long as poss, and too much current defeats this. Look at John's website.. he has a great drawing there that explains it in detail.
