  1. :) Back on topic.. he he Welcome DubbieBoy. Sounds like you are getting involved in a big way. Glad to have you join us, and hope you will keep us updated with your progress.
  2. Fantastic post Richard. Was wondering when you would get around to telling us about the tanks. For someone who has only been "bitten" for six months or so, you seem to be heading down the right tracks, and spawning the rainbows no less Great stuff, and thanks for sharing your "obsession" with us
  3. Talk about bumping your post count Seven replies within two minutes for one question, then a double post. What's the story Alan .. can't find the "edit" button...
  4. Hi there Melanotaenia, Can't help you with the fish, but a warm welcome to the fishroom. So what are these four tanks you have, and what do you have in them ..? Intoduce yourself in the welcome pages.
  5. Nice pics Chris. I can see we are going to have to re-name you "Croaky", or perhaps start a new competition "Spot de frog" Great stuff.

    hey

Welcome CD. Can't go wrong with the cats... Always a good talking point
  7. We've been here quite a while now Welcome Fish tank, hope you find lots of interest. I see they dragged you into the chat room already
  8. Great stuff Goldie, congrats
  9. Look forward to the pics Jude. Keep regular checks on the pH and hardness, plus the water changes and..... If these are different to your other types, a good idea is to start a log where you can keep all the info of things you have done. (now where did you put that camera...?)..
  10. Must admit, they 'are' a pretty fish, but they will require slightly different conditions to your run of the mill stuff, like they need,... Water Requirements: Fresh water, hard, alkaline; 15 to 30 dGH., pH 7.8 - 8.5; temperature range 23-25 oC. 20% water changes monthly. Really choice as a species tank if you can devote your time to it. Are they a pair Jude, or don't you know..? Saw a pic a while back of a tankful of young EY's... looked absolutely stunning. Might see if I can look it up. PS: You always were an impulsive bugger Ira he he. Great stuff.
  11. Must admit, the feathery red does give the plant a lot more appeal.. (for me anyway he he) Hi Kim, Welcome to the forum, and hope you will tell us a bit more about your fish and animals in the welcome section. Look forward to seeing you around. Oh BTW... The "crowd" will be along to drag you into the evening chat room (whisper)... They're a great bunch really... but boy... can they chat he he. Great to see you here.
  12. :) Don't know where you have been looking, but there is absolutely tons of info on these fish. A google search brought this up, plus heaps more. Labidochromis caeruleus Electric Yellow Mbuna http://members.ozemail.com.au/~titus2/electric.html Cichlids R Us is another great site. No disrespect Jude, but there is something to be said for "researching" your fish "before" you decide to buy, and with the technology of today, anything is just a keystroke away HTH

Hi there, Real sorry to hear about your fish. Seems more prominent in the livebearers, and is apparently a buildup of fluids or gasses within the body caused by an internal breakdown. Seems strange that the fish died so quick though, as usually they last quite some time, even in severe cases. You can draw the fluid off, but it's a fiddly job, and not for the squeemish.
  14. Welcome guys Always something new to learn here, and always people that are willing to share their knowledge.
  15. Stunning pics Steve. You just gotta do something about saving those fry.
  16. From Binkles, I'm surprised that nobody has invented a plastic fish that dispells ammonia as it moves around in the current (Have I just given away a million dollar idea..? ) Huggies are working hard to produce nappies for tropicals, but are having probs with the colour scheme :)
  17. Hi TC, and welcome to the fishroom. The chat room is at the head of the page... just below where it shows you logged on. You have to have "Java Virtual Machine" installed on your machine to be able to get in.. (see other posts on chat room).
  18. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/grumpygr/AUTOFILL.htm Room for thought
  19. Here's a simple solution that I was going to put in my fishroom until my son took it over. It worked fine on three tanks, and I can see no reason for it not working on a full fishroom provided the plumbing is set up correctly with water feeds and drains. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/grumpygr/AUTOFILL.htm
  20. Hi Laurence, A warm welcome to the NZFR forums. Caryl has just about covered everything above... too many fish all at once causing too big an impact on the system all at once. Might be an idea to segragate that fighter for a while (or permanently) but you will still have to treat it for ich (white spot). All the best, and hope you get things sorted out quickly. Read this, it might help a little.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=1817
  21. Try this if you want to catch some flies... fruit or otherwise http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/grumpygr/FLYCATCH.htm
  22. Did you actually have it filled with water and have the tank water circulating through it Caryl..?
  23. Just wondering if one of those 12volt chilly bins for keeping drinks cool could be converted to a cold sump, like if it had an inlet and outlet and filled with water it might keep it cold enough for the fish. Just a thought
  24. Hi phyrestaata Glad you found us. Lots to read about here with heaps of great helpful members.
  25. Sounds like they are either 'very' scared, or badly out of condition. Extra plants might help, plus a few more neons slipped in after lights out might give them a bit of security if fear 'is' the cause for lack of colour.
