  1. this thread helped me get all legit. viewtopic.php?f=41&t=49106 just gotta watch for those "no fishing" signs...
  2. hey josh. i'd be pretty interested to know some decent spots too, but i get the feeling people like to keep them a secret? i have been to several waterways on the shore but have not had much luck. i recently caught a tiny bully from the chelsea lakes over here on the shore, but i had to trawl through about 300 gambusia first.. i go back often in search of more bullies, because the lake is so close to the ocean. i also spent a bit of time in the waterways/creeks down kaipatiki - and all i found were eels.. but maybe i am not looking in the right way.. are there tricks to finding them? do we need to get out of auckland to have better luck with finding natives? i'm looking for inanga/bullies/koura/torrent fish if you hear of any "secret" spots.. send me a "secret" PM and let me know where lol
  3. would anyone be good enough to give a rough estimate on the value of this cichlid, if i was to sell it on? it is around 20cm long.

  10. yeah gonna get rid of the convicts and the pleco i think. the tank is too small for all of them anyway. anyone want them??
  11. also noticed that he doesn't dig holes in the substrate anymore, like he used to when he lived alone..
  12. i haven't seen "the" movie... but i'm sure it won't put me off wanting them... surely there must be a piranha black market out there somewhere? come on, one of you dodgy fish guys must know something or know someone..... so come on, send me a PM, i can keep a secret... ;-)
  13. looking for good advice. here is the situation. i've had my orange oscar for about a year now. he's around 20cm, and has lived by himself in his own tank all his life, up until a month ago, when i moved him to a larger tank (220l), and added 2 convicts, a jack dempsey and a pleco. in the time he's been in the new tank i've noticed the tips of his fins turning black.. a dirty black almost like they're burnt. there doesn't appear to be much damage to his fins but the black is becoming really noticable now and doesn't seem to be getting any better. i also note that oscar has not really made friends with any of the new fish, hes still pretty aggressive to them. but the other fish still appear healthy and happy. i've completely changed the water a few days ago and have been monitoring PH and ammonia all seem to be okay. what causes this? how can i improve things to get rid of the black? is there medicine for this condition? thanks.
  14. what a well thought out comment. you should check out my other threads about cock fighting and seal clubbing.
  15. thanks for the information. piranha keeping is clearly extremely restricted in nz. i think what i want to know is, why are they listed as a noxious species? i understand that these restrictions are in place to prevent outbreak of such species in NZ.. but would piranha even survive if accidentally released to new zealand's cold waterways? i'm pretty sure oscar cichlids could do some damage to nz's fresh water species if released.
  16. this may be a silly question but can someone please give me the low down on why piranha are not allowed to be kept in private aquariums in NZ?
