That is a cool chunk of wood! Very smart rock on the left too.
  2. Eggs, after being chucked in a new tank? They get that comfortable that quickly? Here's hoping that's what it is. I've been looking at an awful lot of cory videos and I'm not seeing any doing what mine are. If I wasn't at stinky work I'd be posting one
  3. I hear you on that but there's 'active' and 'crazy'. Maybe I'll get a vid of them tomorrow morning, see what ya'll think then.
  4. Really? :happy2: Joy! I hope you're right. I thought they would have settled by now.
  5. Hello all, I bought some Corys off a chap from here last week. When I got them home I tested their water as they are typically kept around pH6 or below and my water comes out @ 8. Sure enough the water was around pH6 and very soft. I had some water that was soft and stable at around 7.8 with a mature filter, low light and lots of cover. I introduced the new water over a few of hours (I'd say 3ish) and eventually in they went. They seemed to be a bit stressed but it all looked normal. They sat together in a group under a log and moved around every so often. After 24 hours or so they started to zip up and down the glass like proper stressed fish do. I was concerned the pH swing might have been a bit steep so I got myself some Seachem pH7 regulator and dosed my display tank. Once it was stable, I slowly introduced the buffered water to their quarantine tank over about 4 or 5 hours and then plonked them in. I figured if they are going to be stressed they may as well do it in the big tank surrounded by lots of lovely plant life! A week and two days later and these fish are still losing it. Day and night, they are still up and down the glass like crazy. Temp, pH, hardness, and Ca are all very stable (loving the Seachem product btw!). Does anyone have any idea why they might be so freaked out? Was the initial pH shift just too much? I have been feeding sinking algae wafers and some of it seems to be getting consumed but not a lot. Any ideas would be super, I feel so bad for them!
  6. Cool little article. Big fan of goldfish 8) My 3 lads are very entertaining.

Good point Squirt! I've got plenty of salt and a refractometer from my short-lived marine attempt. That and a bit of research, I'm sure a couple would do fine in there. 7.5L is a good water level in this. I doubt I will be putting anything in this particular bowl, once it's filled with water it looks all distorted and magnified. So with a better quality bowl I will also try for something a few litres bigger (and stronger).

    Yee haa!!

On a more serious note... The bowl is awful quality so need to do some shopping for a better/bigger one. Was thinking of getting one of those little lights that Organism sells and putting something plant like in there. Stocking options I was thinking are: WCMM Betta BB Gobys I like your suggestions, shrimp would be pretty cool as would a Leopard Fish.

I was thinking the 3 musketeers would fit in there! If they all swam in the same direction they'd be sweet as :nilly: :nilly: :nilly:

Have had this in my head a while so thought I'd give it a crack. I think If I make it look pretty and have the ability to change the airstone and media, this would make a nice Whitecloud or betta tank. Excuse the webcam quality. I'm thinking some sort of concrete 'volcano' for the centre as it will sink and be heavy enough to hold in place. A nice wooden base, a much higher quality bowl, perhaps a light... Lots of possibilities. I tihnk this will be a nice addition to my desk
  12. Yee haa! love when a tank is ready to go :nilly: So much waiting and watching :nilly:

    :spop:
  14. Do we have this sort of thing here?
  15. If you restrict the roots from spreading outwards, use a plastic ring, a pot, nylon stocking etc this should create a nice looking clump. Not sure how the plant will do long term though. Have done this with plenty of terrestrial plants and they need repotting every couple of seasons, should be a similar outcome with aquatic. I'm sure someone will chime in...
  16. Holy smokes I love these fish!
  17. That would be my thoughts too. But transferring media is probably easier.

Sounds promising. Wonder if carbon might take away some of the smell?
  19. Thought it might be something like that. I figured as long as the readings are consistent and the same method is used every time.
  20. This may not apply but I find my API test kit gives a 0.25 at the lowest. I have tried lots of different things to see if I can it lower but it always comes out at 0.25. Have had my Mrs check my methods and her scientist brain/training says I'm doing it right.

Substrate looks fantastic! I've got a whole bunch of balasts I've been collecting for the last year or so, would love to see how you go about the conversion :
  23. Cool, thanks. Just read that E series have a 5 year warranty and Jager is 3 years. Although, neither company seems to state this on their website!?
