  1. I got some stuff from aus, cant remember where off the top of my head. If you want me to dig it out I can. It was cheap enough and only took a week to get here.
  2. Do you still need an impellor? I've got a brand new one I wont be using...
  3. Awesome, yeah they were all grounded to the chasis originally. Thanks mate!
  4. I think that kind of sounds like the diagram I put up earlier yeah? No rush Smurf, thanks for looking into it!
  5. A sparky friend of mine thinks he has some electronic ballasts lying around somewhere, that would make things easier! I'm still having no luck finding diagrams for these so if you do find some Smurf that would be super
  6. Sorry mate, that was the only thing that was missing! Found this diagram, looks like it could be a go... From what I can see this is how it's hooked up but with capacitors and some setup I don't understand where the line enters. I'll get a snap of that tomorrow.
  7. That would be awesome. I've brought one section still relatively intact home with me and will inspect it this evening. Initial look tells me there are some little tricks where the main line comes in. Managed to also get two 4ft lengths of the fixture and the reflectors
  8. I can put my hands on about 12 of these, complete with fittings, starters and capacitors. I've got three things I need help with, 1, A 48 inch bulb is too long for my setup, I've seen bulbs wired in series. Good idea? 2, Never seen a capacitor on a light setup before. I'm assuming the size of the original unit may have something to do with it. (12x48" T5) 3, The balast only has 2 terminals coming out of it. I will have another look at the main unit today and see if there are some more clues as to how it works but I'm sure someone here could tell me. Hopefully I've stuck a little goldmine, gotta love earthquake salvage! Thanks for having a look.
  9. Thanks for the insight. Yes it looks like another one starting to open up. The first has been very slow to get to this size, I thought it was just a bit of an irritation, I only noticed it was an actual hole when I put a torch on him. The tube I have is a Sylvanian Gro-Lux 6500K which makes them glow and it's not so noticeable. Feeding: Wardley Advanced Nutrition 'Perfect Protein' two or three times daily. Was also feeding TetraFin sinking mini sticks (for ornamental goldfish) but had slowed it right up as they seemed to be missing a lot of them and the water quality was suffering. Have since restarted adding only a few sticks with every feed. I've ordered Seachem Gold Buffer and Gold Trace and added a 5cm2 chunk of dry base rock I had floating around. Will test calcium again tonight, on sunday I was getting a result on the first drop of test solution.
  10. My poor mate Tippy looks like he has hole in the head and I dont know why :? Water quality is good and tested often, tank is 50L(ish) and has a few plants and 1 other lionhead. 1x15W 6500K light is on for 6 hours a day and water temp is 21- 22C. Fert is Flourish Comprehensive @ 2ml every couple of days. Filter is an aquaone aquis 500. Water changes are 10L every week/week and a half. He has been through a couple of ammonia spikes from earthquake issues and a filter screwup from me. I'd be super gutted to lose this guy, I've got a spare tank I can put him in if need be, I'd even totally change the current setup just to make him happy.
  11. How many of us and who are we? I've just got into it as some of you may have seen http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=53834 What I'm finding is that there isn't much in the way of choice when it comes to frags and organisims on the local retail market. Am I missing something or is this just how it is? Can we get a group together and throw some ideas around to improve the situation? I'm prepared to invest a bit of time and money, I'm planning on doing it anyway so why not do it to help myself and others! Let me know your thoughts, feel free to PM.
  12. Wow, corner tank. Can't wait to see some pics
  13. Mine came in a bag Much easier
  14. I had 12 rats at one stage. They used to tease the cat through the glass door at the front of my sleepout. Had the run of the house and were reasonably toilet trained Love to have more one day!
  15. More photos... This is the type of scape I'm looking for.
  16. Some people I live with... (the mrs shall remain nameless)... Seem to giggle at the fish keeping until a fish does something cool or dies, then they own it and it's super awesome or super sad  But yes, fish and nerd go together in my friend's point of view.
  17. I keep some ready made salt water in a 10L. If I throw in a small heater and pump and add some rock, that would even out the parameters a bit yeah?
  18. Tank, post-substrate Just a rock I like GSP and frag rock to the right Little 'beach' area the wave maker creates
  19. Update and questions.... Diatom bloom is well underway Have cut up my GSP and seeded it it on another bit of base rock. At the same time I cut the heck out of the original rock to get the baddies off, seems to have worked so far... The GSP is doing very well, every day it seems to extend its tentacles a little bit more and the newly seeded spots now have tiny little tentacles, I guess this mean my light is working. :happy1: Water parameters: All the same except for Nitrate which is now 0 and pH which is 8.2 - 8.3. Changes made this week: I did a water change this week, really just to suck up the junk sitting on the bottom, about 8L. Questions: Why does the pH swing so much in salt water compared to fresh, will this stabilise and will this cause me issues when I start adding livestock? Also, my understanding of biology is that lifeforms need to consume 'stuff' to survive right? How then does live rock stay 'live' when I have nothing producing waste? Nitrates at 0, I know we aim for low numbers but can it be too low?
  20. Cheers man. I don't want to go spreading junk on your LR so I'll give it a crack.
  21. Here's the frag, looks like its got some tag alongs. What would be the best way to deal with them? Am I able to detach some polyps and reattach them on some clean rock?
  22. Go for gold mate  we're all here to share! I was thinking about raising the light up only an inch or two and and attaching a spotlight of 5 or 6 LEDs, from there I can shine it towards the other end and power it from the main unit. Once I've got it all put together I will experiment a bit with the location. Also I thought if I end up going with sand the white might be enough to bounce a bit more light around. As I don't plan on any corals down the other end I might not need anything. Not 100% on what I want to keep in there, got a little frag from Organism today just to add a bit of life to the tank. I'll post a pic in a min, I don't know what it is or what it's called
