i would say you need to setup more than one feeding trap. So hopefully all your originals will go to that one and your discus will see the new one. Diet can be what ever you make it as things like dicsus pellets are just as healthy for them now as meat mix. I would try frozen brineshimp and a meatmix aswell because you need it to sink to the bottom because the discus graze for about an hour. That means they don't need to get in first like the guppies and demolish everything. The otherway to find out what he likes is to ask who you got him from what they fed him and do the same.

Hi firstly i would like to thank rotorua wonderworld as they were awsome when i went up to see them. what an excellent setup! I would like to show off my new tankmates as they are wonderful! First up is Gerald the Clown knifefish. Very cute as he is little but i know he will grow indeed!!! Anyone have any info one these guys? how aggessive are they (apart from eating smaller mates?) can they be left with discus till he is about 20cm? and will he be ok with a black ghost knife? and secondly 2 beautiful discus who will turn out to be that orange all over! And i think that i got them for a bargin! the discus were only $74 and they are about 7cm and Gerald is 8cm lond and he was only $19!! Also who were the Wellingtonians i heard about also buying up? as they too went to the taupo pet shop and wonderworld?

haven't tried as yet as i have moved house so they have only just got their own tank. so now only time will tell keep me posted. cheers catbrat

sorry to but in but catbrat you had any luck on those matto grosso bristlenoses breeding? if so any more tips on that kind?

i personally don't think your should plant plants as they will be destroyed in a couple of weeks if you have a big pleco. my amazon swords lasted 2 weeks and the others didin't even last the night. Sorry to say but pleco poo is just something you have to cope with seeing. or get darker gravel.

My 5 discus have been really great and always been out infornt of the glass since i have had them but a couple of days ago i moved the plecos and angels out of the tank (as they have destroyed my plants, No surprise :roll: ) But now all the discus are hiding up against rock structures and just moping around on the bottom. Do i need t add some more bottom dwellers to make them feel safe if they are out? ( i seem to recall reading about this). Or is something wrong?

i'm sorry to say but i would get rid of him now(just in case) then give the tank a good clean tommorrow and see how the others go.

another thing you could do is add melafix as this helps. melafix and salt is what i used when an angels got it. also sounds like you might want to do some sucking of stuff off the bottom of your tank as this will help. It is mainly brought on by bad water quality.

hey i am using a spa pool type filter. You can buy them from wetpets for 170. you cann't get anything cheaper in town too, i tried. So if you have smaller tanks it will take a while to catch up to that. i wish i could alan but i am just a whimp when it comes to big wigs like that. I too felt like doing more than that at the time, but oh well onward and upwards

hopefully i might be able to help. I have been in palmy for abot 4 years now with fish and originally i used wet pets water (when i had a 40 litre tank) now that has grown and then some and i don't want to haul hundreds of litres from them. I originally used straight tap water with aquaplus or stresscoat/zyme that was ok but every now and thien i noticed the fish weren't too happy. Sad to say that one day i was doing the above and within 2-3 days 80% of my tank was gone (hundreds of dollars of fish). i thought it was a bit odd but after experienting and researching I gave in and rang the council to see if they had done any thing different. THEY HAD! they said that they "every now and then" add extra chorline and copper and to my discussed that is why all my fishes skin had "burn't" off (not nice). So mroal of the storey is now i have a filter that gets rid of most of that stuff and everynow and then (every couple of months) i add some aqua plus. Hope this helps as this was my very bad experience taht also made me give up fish keeping. So i would hate for it to happen to someone else

just wondering how this was coming along and how many submissions there has been?? Is this thing part of the naming thing that was on the news how the NZ'er is trying to name all the species of every animal found around the world?

has the tank got a lid? if it does how big are the hole at the top. Its not very common that they will jump out though. I thought i lost my female on in a very small tank but it turned out that she was moving around dodging my site at the back of the tank. they should turn up. But final question, how big were they? do you have other fish apart from tetras?

i am finding the same thing as most catfish have only recently been found. i was needing a book publication on a matto grosso brissle nose Ancistrus claro (LDA08), and lemon spotted green pleco Peckoltia sp. L200. ihave found a journel on matto grosso but it foesn't have a isbn number

yep they are because when i was putting it together i thought that would happen so i put the opposite connectors onto the pipes so there is only one way to connect it i was brainy that day

hi i have setup a external filter as above for over a month now and when i gave it a rinse and put it back together the flow is now next to nothing.. anyone have any ideas?? i have checked all the pipes and they are not kinked so thats a start! hopefully someone else has had this problem
