  2. Congratulations! Are you going to register?
  3. :dunno: first ive heard, anythings possible i suppose. i always try to use hardwood in tanks. bns struggle to eat native hardwoods. im pretty sure ive still got some of the bits of driftwood here in troughs, still in tact a couple of years on. did the same for whiptails, only drilled right through the wood so they had open ended caves.
  4. A lot of members here will be able to sell you some
  5. I've heard that the inside of the wood will start to soften over time? The guy that told me so lost his adult L066 in the cave as his fins got stuck in the soft sides when he flared. Maybe a more solid type of wood wouldn't soften inside?
  6. You could also try making some out of tile or slate
  7. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=50630 Great timing
  8. My uncles mate had a cichlid tank full of rocks from the beach. I'm not sure if the rocks themselves buffered the water but the shells that were on them would have. These rocks are now sitting in my garden as I shut down the tank when I got it. The guy in your LFS was just probably trying to get you to buy his rocks  You could go to a landscaping store if you want to. There is some good rocks there
  9. Can you point us in the direction of where to get one that looks like that? I'm sure everyone would be keen to know
  10. Good on you for taking it in
  11. What plants are you planning to use? Crypts and swords will like the deep stuff. But most stem plants will be alright If you'd like some ambulia or water sprite, flick us a pm and for the price of postage(or you can pick up, i'm in howick) I'll send you some clippings
  12. You're welcome to come get some black sandy stuff from me. Its directly from lake taupo. Its pretty nice. I can give you a picture if you like?
  13. That is a really deep substrate. When I used daltons it was about 3cm thick, with 2cm of sand on top. I'd only put on a thin level of gravel but its all up to you
  14. They're not as impressive as they're made out to be :-?
  15. I got a pair of wild kribs on saturday. He choked to death on a shrimp pellet on sunday  With tetra do you plan on keeping them in your display tank and then spawning them in another tank and raising fry there?
